Hm. Anyone know if COH-only accts have COV access yet? The post said "check it now and see", and I checked... and I see nada. =/

[/ QUOTE ]

I'll have a more detailed post about the short term goodies in a few.

To clarify here:

* Active accounts who don't have CoH or CoV should be hooked up within 24 hours.

* The Prestige Grant and the Debt Wipe will be done after Issue 11 launches. We will announce the date well ahead of time so you can bulk up your SG roster and have fun gathering some debt

Everybody complaining that you now get both for free: you get both in 1 retail package now. They're not "new" products. You got a 1 year "head start" on the freebie players, ok?

Grats to all the devs, I hope your new offices rock and you all get raises for making such great improvements to the game this year.

Too funny...

Why exactly does anyone owe you for your own decision making process?

So if you buy something in a store and it goes on sale two years later...They owe you a refund?

By that logic you were owed money long before now as CoH and Cov dropped in price from when they were first launched..

I guess if you knew the price would go down you wouldnt have spent your hard earned money on it...

Ok if you want compensation so badly give up any of the slots you used in upgrading any prestige or base building youve done since you purchased it...because you dont get it both ways..

Does the debt wipe count towards badge progress ?

Surprisingly low amount of DOOM in this thread. I'm impressed that no flames need to be put out so far.

The only issue I see being raised is from people who bought both games asking for some "compensation". Let's think about that for a minute. In my opinion, if you bought the "other half" of the game over three months ago, your reward is playing that half for that long.

But what about those who bought it recently, say, last month, or the month before? What would you like as compensation?

A free month of gameplay, added to the free month you got with the box? That sounds pretty fair to me.

Influence for your characters maybe? 1 million for a level 1-15, 5 million for a level 16-29 or below, 10 million for a level 30+?

All costume recipes unlocked in all your existing characters?

Shoot some ideas, and remember to keep it realistic.

All those things that we asked ourselves ..Why wont the Devs do this or that ...and the answer was..They didnt want to spend the time or money....Stand a better chance of getting done...

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly, NCSoft appears to be directing money into NCSoft Norcal to enhance and improve their new title. That means more programmers and devs to work on things. Ie, first thing to get dropped for an issue is EAT's etc because of lack of resources. Well now NCSoft Norcal will have more of those resources to work with. It means a much better chance of seeing things we the players and they the devs have wanted for along time. But haven't haven't happened because there was only so much that they could do with their current staff.

Huh. Whoa. Deja vu.
[/Keanu Reeves]

I've been in business units involved in acquisitions before, both as the acquirer and as the acquired. This could go very well for us as subscribers, very poorly, or unnoticeably. Judging by statements to effect of "we've got big plans" I don't think it will be unnoticeably.

I'm leaning toward hope over despair. In my experience, being acquired by another business unit that has in the past been intimately involved in your major efforts, if not your day-to-day operations, means the acquirer is coming into the deal with their eyes open and few or no misconceptions. When said acquirer also brings deeper pockets than yours and Ideas™, then exciting times are almost certainly ahead.

So I just bought both versions of the game...does this mean that I wasted my money and if I had waited a week, I could have paid half as much?

Fabulous!

[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. I am really pissed about this, there needs to be some form of compensation for those who did buy both games. Like maybe a free month or2 or something because this is totally unfair to those who spent their hard earned money on both games.

[/ QUOTE ]

How long ago did you do it?

I bought COH a few years ago. COV when it came out. I don't expect anything. I wouldn't *argue* if they gave me something, but IMHO the only people who should get some sort of compensation are those who bought seperately, picking up the "other half" within, oh, the last month.

Hell, I bought the COH DVD Edition and COV CE. Bought the COV CE *twice,* in fact. I'm not pissed at all. I got to play *both,* with 12 slots per server, since COV's release. I think that's been pretty cool - and now there won't be any artificial barriers to things like SG entry for *anyone.*

[/ QUOTE ]
I bought CoH at launch, CoV CE at launch, so someone owes me some money on this.

I'm nervous though, I admit that - every time in my past when an MMO has 'switched hands'; things have gone Topsy-turvy. BUT it sounds like we're keeping a fair chunk of the original dev team - and those are good folks, so I'm not worried about that...

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm with you such changes usually make me nervous, but.... It appears we keep pretty much our existing development team and management staff in the move. This is good and I suspect that for I11 and maybe I10 they operated on their own direction in preparation of this move.

So I'm moderately optimistic about the announcement.

I'm sort of creeped out right now. Last night I was discussing clearing out my SG of inactive members when I thought... "what if they do another 20k prestige thing soon?". Weird. Now I've just got to get a few more to top things off.

Certainly nervous, but that's expected with any major change. Keeping the dev staff that's been doing such a great job since I8 certainly helps. They do excellent work, and I'd be far more worried if it was cut short.

Hopefully, this only means good things. Obviously it's heavily related to the MUO situation, but they probably made the right choice here. No IP concerns, fewer worries over priorities and organization as well. Cryptic gets to put their full efforts towards their new project while NCSoft ensures their project remains successful.

Hopefully NCSoft really does appreciate the game and continues to support it fully. Truthfully, they always were the final say in how long it continues, so little has changed in that regard. Here's hoping for many more exciting years of CoH. Cheers to the devs on their new jobs and best of luck to everyone!

Venture started it, so it must be true.

As for "compensation"...were veterans who subscribed off and on previously "compensated" when veteran rewards launched? Were quitters "compensated" when ED hit? Were CoV-buyers "compensated" when it came to the fore that the Cathedral of Pain is doomed to the abyss?

No. You got your reward in buying the product before now.

Basically. Cryptic is working on the Marvel MMO. That will be a direct competitor of COH. Cryptic basically jettisoned COH to NCsoft so they could focus all their time and resources on their new baby MUO. Yup. That pretty much wraps it up. To all my personal friends I told this would happened a couple of months ago.

"HA! I so ******* called it! "

Pay up guys.

Ever the optimist, eh Venture?

Anyway, I can't believe I haven't seen anyone ask this most important question yet: Even though Statesman is no longer involved in CoH, will he still be able to post here? And if so, will his name still be red? Sleep-deprived minds want to know!

1.) Why did NcSoft buy the Co* franchises? I mean...was it to get rid of Jack/Statesman/Cryptic so that they could do their own thing and if so, why take Positron/and other devs unless it is a timed thing where after x months Posi/other devs go away and get replaced by "NcSoft" peeps?

[/ QUOTE ]

People tend to forget that COH is a nice highly successful MMO for North America. They tend to think of the aberrant numbers for WOW and then look at the 150K subscribers here as bad. This isn't true it is very successful. Additionally the last 2 issues have increased the subscriptions.

I noticed when I was at the store getting a copy of Hellgate that there was a solid set of GVE on the shelf.

NCSoft is recognizing that at this stage in its life COX is a cash cow that brings them in money. Additionally they appear to be lining up with the idea that there competition is Sony not Blizzard , this means that they want a nice collection of core games to offer for a station pass type arrangement.

My only concern is NCSoft has been experiencing some financial issues as of late, so I just hope it doesn't propagate down to this game if they have to cut back on anything.

Other than that, I think this change should work out ok.
