They should probably be an ambush spawn anyway, just to prevent them from hanging out at the doorway if the opener runs off. Have 'em give chase until the opener's ToT timer resets, then despawn.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think that would be pretty harsh on stalkers, and possibly a lot of masterminds as well. Any ambush targeted on a character removes much of a stalker's fighting ability.

Aye, ambushes see through Hide and ignore BodyGuard on MM's

Not so much, running on a full team of 8 doing several doors in an area, and still the usual summon was an LT + minion, or 3 minions who basically dont get out of the door alive.

There is no challenge to this level of spawn for a big team.

As for trading the costume salvage ? well out coalition still had plenty left from last year. Every character of mine who wanted it had an extra slot already.

Instances with normally scaling mobs would be much more fun to me.

It's not the challenge I look for during this event, or any other. It's totally the fun. since I team mostly with PUG's the experience is always fresh. I can see how it would become droll if you are reward or accomplishment oriented. Similarly, I was on a large team working several doors on a street. The spawns were a side-activity to the fun the team was having with each other. (strangers mostly).

quick impressions after one evening of play:

lots of fun.

more drops = more interesting gameplay, and adding super fun ones like the temp costume powers is genius.

I was teaming with a friend who hadn't played since the early days and he asked "when did they start doing *cool* stuff?"

We ran around, did some missions, rang some doorbells, got some goodies and had a great time.

The only down side was occasional crippling lag in Steel Canyon, I assume because so many people were going door to door instead of doing instanced missions.

Overall, I give it an A+.

They ignore the pets, but Bodyguard still works.

I kinda wish I'd hopped over to test to put this through the paces now. There's a number of fairly obvious errors on some of the temp costumes, like the missing cape mantle on the Paragon Protector, borked camera angle on PPD Swat, and the gross misspelling of Eidolon.

Also, a badge for 50 costumes? There's only 33 to begin with, so it seems a bit much. I suspect it's not as annoying if you're also camping out to get the other kill badges, but on my oldbie characters who have all the other Halloween badges, it's a little tedious.

And the Lost costume seriously needed to be TV head. Maybe next year!

I like the costumes, but again the mechanics of getting them are less than fun.

Please consider getting missions involved somehow. This stand click, wait, wait, click gets old fast.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well considering the devs idea of "holiday" missions is having to kill Snaptooth 5 times in a row... no thanks. This is honestly less monotonous than that. There's at least some surprise what you might get when you click, and having a full team of 8 chattering can make the time pass quickly and be fun.

Very good event. The most fun my SG and I have had in a while.

Also, thanks to Lighthouse for ever-so-briefly appearing, invising, and spawning Peregrine Island 2 on Triumph last night. It really helped with the lag

The costumes are great My favorite ones so far are the Freak Tanks and the PPD Hardsuit (which has jet boots ).

I think the time period on the power is OK for a seasonal event IMHO, but now some or going to want those costume options for real-real in Icon You've given them a taste for it, and now they'll want more, MORE! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Cheers for another great Halloween event!

Now that Flashback is on the horizon, that shouldn't be an issue unless you are really obsessed with full bars on every contact...

Halloween costume temps are exquisitely awesome! Whoever thought of it must receive a large bonus and warm admiration. But no Vampire or Witch costumes? For shame. I'll just have to stand around in my Freakshow Boss costume basking in massive Defendery badassedness instead.

There were at least a half-dozen Jacks in PI on Liberty last night in the span of a couple hours, so that wasn't a problem either. I have no idea if we were just lucky or if Jack's spawn percentile was adjusted, but it was certainly a nice change of pace. Did Jack have Unseelie spawns last year? For some reason I was thinking it had only been Eochai.

I think my only minor criticism is that trick-or-treating at doors could use some kind of streak-breaker. When you have every new badge except the one for 50 costumes, getting 8 or 10 Tricks in a row is kind of extra-annoying.

Oh yeah ... would it kill someone to add progress bars for holiday badges? I understand not wanting to show progress bars for badges that can't currently be obtained once you're outside the event window, but if that's the problem then aren't we overdue for badge progress bars with associated hidden date ranges? So they will appear between dates X and Y, or when event flag Z is set, or whatever? Here we are, years after the first Halloween event, still with no Halloween critter progress bars. Costumes, either.

Mechanically, I've seen no problems at all.

I bugged this at lunch, but my level 37 could not Trick or Treat in Nerva even when surrounded by level 37 Circle of Thorns out by Naylor.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

After one night of the event, I thought it was super mega awesome with raisins!

I absolutely love the costumes. Switching between them is fun, and gave me a reason to use 3 more of my power trays.

The lag was a little bad, but I dealt with it. Trick or treating was perfect background activity while I watched Heroes!

My only complaint is the generic badge images. But the fun of the costumes far outweighs that minor complaint. Good work, devs!

A few out-of-character MoTD-type explanations would help new players get into the groove.

I had to explain to several newbies that you had to click on the doors - I looked quickly at the official website announcement and I can see how they wouldn't immediately understand.

Lighthouse,

Just received a MOTD popup about the Halloween event. I don't know if this is the one you referenced in your opening post or not, I logged in yesterday but received nothing. This one updated (and therefore popped up) around 3:20pm EST.

The content was informative, but I couldn't read all of it. At 1280x1024 resolution, running in windowed mode, the MOTD box was literally too big to fit on the screen, which rendered the scroll bar kind of useless, as I couldn't see the top and bottom of the message box to scroll to.

Just a heads up so if there's some way to avoid that in the future, you guys can.

Thanks

Have the door spawns chase them just like an ambush, the click and runners will eventually get hunted down by their mass spawn.

This I can get behind. Kill your spawns or they will come, EN MASSE, and kill you.

Ambushes can't ignore BodyGuard on MMs. BG is the only thing that keeps MMs alive during those type of ambushes.

Nice event, the costumes are a tasty treat.

The only issue I have is people yelling "Dont kill steal!" at me when I exit a mission and their mobs attack me... well, learn to control aggro kids, not my fault the zombies love me.

Funny stuff.

This event is so fun I just had to make my first post!

I got on last night with my AR/Devices blaster. There is something about spawning a Witch, hitting her with a Web Grenade then laying down Ignite and Flamethrower....

I love the PPD Hardsuit. The red exhaust from the boots looks great as I hover.

All in all... I think I am going to call in sick tomorrow to do more ToTing!

Arcanaville or one of the other math mavens can correct me or flesh out the details, but it seems to me that the more costumes you have, the more likely you are to get a repeat costume and the less likely you are to get the last remaining costume to complete the set of 33.

[/ QUOTE ]

By my rough back of the envelope calculations, you'd have to get about 135 random costume drops before you get all 33 (assuming there are 33), on average (of course, it could be much lower or higher depending on your luck).

The estimated number you'll likely have after reaching Ostentatious (50 costume drops) is about 26 to 27 of them (in fact, upon reaching Ostentatious with my main I did actually have 26 of the costume powers).

Hi Wilykat,

It looks like that version of the MOTD has some formatting issues at different screen resolutions.

We'll have a better performing version up shortly.
