Discussion: TRICK OR TREATING
Nowhere near enough unseelie's.
For next year, could the monsters that jump out of doorways, and the minions that are spawned by the GMs, have the Giant Monster code so they always con at your level (like Rikti in invasions have)? Solves some concerns about griefing (intentional or accidental).

Lighthouse,
Just received a MOTD popup about the Halloween event. I don't know if this is the one you referenced in your opening post or not, I logged in yesterday but received nothing. This one updated (and therefore popped up) around 3:20pm EST.
The content was informative, but I couldn't read all of it. At 1280x1024 resolution, running in windowed mode, the MOTD box was literally too big to fit on the screen, which rendered the scroll bar kind of useless, as I couldn't see the top and bottom of the message box to scroll to.
Just a heads up so if there's some way to avoid that in the future, you guys can.
Thanks

Hi Wilykat,
It looks like that version of the MOTD has some formatting issues at different screen resolutions.
We'll have a better performing version up shortly.

I have a similar problem but in reverse. There are a great many windows that everyone needs to use on a regular basis that do not chage their font size to match what a person has the Chat font sze set to. Consignment Houses, Base storage, regular stores, contacts and the trade window. This makes it very difficult to see what I am actually clicking on and I have on occassion bought something that not only did I not want I could not use.
Is there any way to change the font size of these windows to match our Chat font ?
Ok, the Goldbricker costume is officially the coolest ever. I love love love the jetpack that works with flight. The jetpack needs to be in I11 or the next vet reward.
Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!
I have been a fan of the Halloween events in the past. This year, not so much so. The characters I want to get the new badges on already have all the old badges. It really feels like a chore to get the temp costumes when you already have the other badges and are not getting any other feeling of progress.
I also have an issue with the difficulty of the door spawns themselves. They are way too easy. It would be nice if they would at least spawn at your current mission level. I also seem to remember the 1st year event having the mobs spawn at the team size level. That was a BLAST, it could be a real challenge. Having a good size team camping 3 or 4 doors now feels a little silly. I takes, what, 3 seconds for 6 people to defeat 3 even level mobs? Where's the challenge in that?
In my opinion the event is cool the way it is. Good job Devs!
I agree with others who pointed out that for some reason it brought out the moron in alot of players. I think the mobs being trained on the door clicker isn't a bad idea. I have had a few idiots come through click my door and dash, leaving me to deal with their mess when they dont get a treat.
If there was a shortage of doors, I might understand, but this is just inconsiderate to say the least. I usually try to find an out of the way place (away from the general population) to do the ToT thing. So it's exponentially more annoying since they go out of their way to ToT at exactly the same door where I am, when there are dozens all around that are unoccupied.
It would have been nice if all costumes were available for both genders.
I love this event. It is truly my favorite. The addition of the costume powers is great.
My only complaint, and this has been since the event originally went live, is to remove the player timers. I don't mind the door timers, because the object of TOT-ing is to go around to other doors.
However, as a solo player, once I click on a door, if I get a treat, I am stuck sitting there with nothing to do until the timer resets. If I get a trick, it takes - at most - 30 seconds to wipe out the mobs and I am still sitting around with nothing to do, less time to sit around. The personal timer makes trick or treating a chore instead of full on fun.

Things I'd change about this event:
-More female-specific costumes, or more unisex costumes. Too many dude costumes...
-Badges could use graphics and maybe a little more flavor in their text.
-Wish there was some way of knowing when you got a duplicate costume.
-Also wish the player timer was turned down, maybe to 10 seconds or so.
Fun ToTing!
I love this event as it marks my start in the CoX world. Just hit my 36 month mark last week and set to ToTing for the new Costumes and Badges.
No complaints so far other than that which has already been mentioned :
1) No Badge Art for the Costume Collection Badges
2) No acknowledgement of a "Treat" when your tray is full and you already have the costume.
Otherwise, a fun event as always!
Cheers!

I am having fun with this years Holloween Event so far. Now is time to collect all three costume badges for a few of my characters. Having Tier 3 inspirations as Treats is good, even though it will prevent me from earning anything from inspirations for a time.

Two observations about the GMOTD:
1. It doesn't mention Recluse's Victory for high level players.
2. My "dialog_yes" bind doesn't work with it any more. Why not?

I like the event as always, it's fun.
The only complaint I have is the number of costumes that is needed to get the 3 badges. 50 seems quite excessive to me, and I'm averaging 4+ hours to get them. That's too long for a short duration event.
I also seem to notice that I get more costume drops solo, than when teamed, so I've been refusing ToT teams, and just doing it solo.
If the amount of costumes needed remains at 50, then perhaps it can be coded so that if anyone on a team gets a costume, then everyone gets credit for it on their costume badge counters. That would speed the process up some, and would actually make it desireable to team, rather than solo.

Agreed. Having done this twice before, I'm just not bothering ToTing on many characters.
The pair we started after last Halloween, sure, but not many others. Too much effort to just get the costume badges.
Possibly next year when they have added something else new.
First off, in general I really do like the Halloween event, so please take the following complaints as just looking to improve something I generally enjoy, not trying to grouse.
The costumes are fun, but the costume gathering badges actually discourage teaming, and are starting to get tedius and annoying. I already have all the Halloween badges from previous years on many of my characters. It's now actually non-productive to team those characters for ToTing. Because I only get the costume when I click the door, it's more productive to just have my watch and click every 60 seconds. having to share a door with others on a team actually slow you down. Luckily for me I have a great global chat group, so I can chit chat even whilest I pound that same poor door into a pulp, but it could easily be a real drag.
On the characters without any badges at all it was great fun. The costume badge took me maybe a half hour more then getting all the other badges, so it didn't add much burden.
Oh, and I know it's just my own bad luck of the draw, but I had to log after about 3 hours on my Fire tank last night just looking for Jack, and he never spawned in Talos. My group, and several others, were extremely frustrated.
You do have to kill the GM character up to get Jack I was on a team with other and we kept knocking them down until we got Jack took about a 1/2 hour.
The Resistance has boobs too, and better hair!
Please remove the personal timer, it's just freaking annoying having to sit and wait every time I get a treat, or wipe out the spawns quickly.

this awesome best part so far is that in the Gaspee area of ff most doors have mobs in front of them so i kill mob, then ToT, then repeat. the Gms are also fun.(my team of 6 killed a Gm without help HaHa).

Chop the timer to 30 seconds, and I'd be happy. 15 seconds would be even better. ^_^
Leave the timer. Griefing is bad enough as it is.

I appreciate the event and the mini-content. It's nice to have something different to do in-between full issues. And I always enjoy seeing all the level 50s I leveled up with come out of the mothballs to collect the new badges.
I would have liked to have an in-game timer on the costumes though, even if it was a short period of time. Fifteen minutes of in-game time would have been much better to me than 15 days of real time.
My only other criticism is that it becomes mind-numbingly tedious to get the 3rd badge and all 33 costumes. I realize that no one is forced to that, but some of us are a bit obsessive compulsive about badges and keeping up with the Joneses.
Arcanaville or one of the other math mavens can correct me or flesh out the details, but it seems to me that the more costumes you have, the more likely you are to get a repeat costume and the less likely you are to get the last remaining costume to complete the set of 33.
That means that I have to click perhaps hundreds more doors to get the 33rd costume than I did to get my first costume. By the time I get there, I think my first costume will have expired and I will despise all halloweenish things. I know many will disagree with me, but I think less costumes may have been better.

I agree with most of what you say, however I would like an hour of in-game time instead of the suggested 15 minutes.
also, I want the costume temps permed as a vet power.

Does anyone else feel that the Treat distribution is a bit... unbalanced?
What I mean is, my characters have been getting metric tons of tier 3 Inspirations dumped on them, a reasonable amount of temp powers, and barely a shred of costume salvage.
Some of my characters have ToTed for several hours just to get the extra costume slot, but wound up with nothing but two of the exact same piece of costume salvage at the end of the day.
I understand that some may feel that one should have to work for the costume slot, but let's face it; anyone with a decent amount of inf can just go straight to the AH/BM and get the necessary salvage with almost no effort whatsoever.
I've had way too many characters clicking doors over and over again having the word "treat" pop up, but not being awarded anything, either because they already have a ton of temp costumes, and/or because they don't feel like having to clear out their inspiration tray every three minutes.
Especially since a lot of them are only ToTing just to get the extra costume slot.
Distribution of treats should be equal.
Two wrongs don't make a right. However, three rights make a left.

It would be nice if the new halloween badges had some ARTWORK for them instead of that inane exploration badge that seems to be the default for whatever badge they dont't feel like making artwork for.
