Take that line, one word and add an s and the tone of that is COMPLETELY different. There was no need to single out the villains group, or even to mention they were simply renaming the CoH forum. Doesn't need to be mentioned, don't add fuel to the already raging fire, and certainly don't rub salt in a wound. Ex and Lighthouse are suppose to set a tone and standard for everyone else, putting one group on the defensive while making another seem favored is only asking for trouble.

But meh, thats just me, I chalk it up to bad PR is all, happens, but you're looking at what is basically getting most people's feathers ruffled. Just leave names and groups out unless absolutely necessary. Its not a them or us situation so don't make it one.

Sure that makes no more sense then the other post, going to bed.

[/ QUOTE ]

I guess I don't see what the problem is. What does adding an S to forum have to do with anything? There was one CoV General Forum. It was simply stated that the forum for CoV general was being removed and that instead there will be one big happy general forum. I really can't see: 1) why it would be seen as singling out Villains, or 2) how else it should have been worded, since one forum involved is named with Heroes and the other named with Villains. How else do you tell everyone that they are merging them without specifying which ones they are talking about?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeesh everytime I post here I remember why I don't, oy, people who read a single line, make assumptions and don't bother reading the rest.

Basically my comment was sarcasm, not serious thus the use of smilies, I tried to explain it in my second post that I was merely pointing out how I felt Ex had incorrectly addressed the change in her choice of wording. (Really wish I could have used a strike through instead of having to resort to red bold color, sure that didn't help )

Thats all my point was, a post made by a red name that seems to be placing one over the other gets people up in a tiffy. Not saying I'm up in a tiffy, like I said in my first post, this is a GOOD idea. If anything maybe this will help bring more people villain side, and introduce more people to it.

But to be honest I know why the issues have been predominantly focused on co-op, the devs have to look to the future for what is easiest to them with a smaller dev team. Address issues and add content and at the same time keep customers happy and interested so the money continues to flow. That doesn't mean however that it doesn't bother some people. And I'm not about to fault them their feelings.

So the point of all of my rambling? Ex should consider rewording her original post, thats all I'm saying.

>.>
<.<
>.<

I still hold onto my plea for more SFs *debates adding it to her signature* I offer the dev willing to champion my cause an endless flow of twinkies! (Okay maybe not but everyone likes twinkies right? I'm a villain bribery is okay!).

Oh, boy. I can see it now the first time someone complains about CoV, there are going to be 1500 people flaming, trolling and name calling. Woo Hoo!

Great move.

[/ QUOTE ]

Make a legitimate statement about problems shouldn't elicit any more problems than normal.

It's when the complaint is peppered with inflammatory comments and allegations that the reasons behind the problem is some kind of CoV hatred conspiracy, that people get irked. That would happen anywhere on these forums, not just in CoH General.

Keep it simple, don't talk like tinfoil hat people.

[/ QUOTE ]

Come on Lemur. You darn well what the villain forum turns into without provocation. No need to tinfoil hat people when it is done for you because people have a negative opinion of things red side. [u]I already know what will happen when Bad_Influence posts anything. [u]

[/ QUOTE ]

As do I. Hopefully villain players will be able to accept graciously the rule of their heroic overlords and conduct themselves with obedience and supplication.

But they probably won't. It's going to be interesting for awhile!

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Why "City Life" General Discussion ? Most everyone who posts in the forums calls the two CoX (City of X) or City of...

Is City Life an internal term y'all have like /Gadgets for the Blaster /Devices powers? Or is it just something y'all though sounded nice?

I have to agree, not sure I'm too fond of "City Life" I think "City of General Discussion" would sound better but its semantics really. What would be cool is if we could flag the posts there as either specific hero of villain or both, guess you could do that by putting "[Hero]" or "[Villain]" at the beginning of the subject line, but I think a little Post Icon of the CoH symbol and the CoV symbol would be a cool addition.

I hope this puts the whole 'red-headed step-child' thing to rest though. I'm getting a complex. I've never, through two step-moms and infinite shades of red, been treated so horribly as I've read some posts make it sound.

Okay, now I'm feeling paranoid. Between those cryptic issues of the Paragon times and the merging of GD forums, I'm beginning to wonder if the two games are going to be drawing ever more closer together over the next few issues.

Are we moving away from factionalism? Mind you, I'm not saying I disapprove, but the trend does seem worrisome.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hmmmm, I'm thinking this not just a player flashback but maybe a whole do-over for CoX (not City Life!!!!!). Combining factions and fixing a couple of the biggest weaknesses on both sides. CoH's horrendous contacts and zoning and CoV's lack (relative to CoH) of contacts and SF's/TF's?

Actually, I was more confused by the fact that anyone (and not you in particular) would find anything wrong with the merge of forums. It just doesn't make sense to me. Your post simply included what I thought was a good example of the kind of bizarre (in my opinion) posts that people make regarding implied slights against CoV side. It wasn't aimed specifically at YOU. I should have made myself more clear. I was using your post to illustrate what I don't understand about the whole CoH vs. CoV debate.

Of course, it could be said that I am just ignorant of how bad CoV gets treated, since I have never particularly enjoyed the Villain side and have always seen it as just another part of CoH.

I think this is a great move. At any given time there are many people in CoH General and the posts change often. When I check the villain side, it's the same posts - untouched - for hours on end. And some people get no response on the Villain side and then post the same thing on the Hero side.

This isn't about the GAME merging , it's about the forums.

I don't recall it ever being tried. I know there was a time we didn't have a second one.

CoV general was created when there was a lot of traffic and a lot of learning curve. That's not the case anymore, and most discussions end up being redundant in some way.

[/ QUOTE ]

Lemur, you may well be right about that. My memory may be fuzzy. But, as you stated there was a time they were combined. And I still see the same issues being present. Which is where the question is from.

As a CoVer, I'm not sure if I approve of this. Let's just cross our fingers and hope for the best.

Statesman said let there be heroes, and there were heroes.

Lord Recluse said let there be villains, and there were villains.

NCsoft said let there be nothing, and there was nothing.

Finally! Thank you for the merge. It will really give CoHers a chance to look at redside, and CoVers a chance to look at bluuuuey.

For topics that were pretty much general to both games, people tended to just stick them in CoH General for lack of a better place to put it. Just for that reason, I think this is a great idea. A majority of the playerbase plays both games anyway, so there's little reason to segregate anymore.

Good move. I recall asking Lighthouse this in the past as I'm sure many people did when CoV started getting little Dev comment and not as many posters as they used to.

Here's a thread that I think needs to stay, made by Candlestick.

Thread has been moved, thank you for linking!

For those who will try and tilt this towards Villains again getting the short end of the stick, please just check the number of pages located in the Villains General Forum vs. The Heroes General Forum and then think from our end which one takes less resources to fold over without losing the meat of the forum.

When we close a forum we keep it offline and in an archived status, so there will be a way for us to pull threads over that have been marked to save after we do the next forum update. So we promise those threads that have been around will continue to be there. In the meantime if there are active threads you would like moved please PM me links or link here.

I don't know much about adding post icons but I can look into that today.

Thank you all for keeping this on the up and up, we are hoping this will allow us to cover more area in depth, rather than just trying to keep things equal and on par.

Regards,

Ex

Would it be possible to save all the threads with redname posts or do you need links to those?

Regarding the forum split:

CoH General used to be just General discussion back when there was only the one game. The City of Villains boards were added when that game was under development in the development section. This was not the Beta boards, but a section for supposition and speculation of the new game.

When CoV went live, Cuppa was going to move threads from CoV to General, same as Ex is doing here, because the game was no longer 'under development'. Many of the people who posted in the CoV section didn't want to lose their 'special place' to post. ("We don't want the Heroes to know our dastardly plans!) Thus, the entire CoV section got moved to General as CoV General, and the other section got renamed.

Thank you for doing this. I never liked it when they were split off, and it resulted in me mostly ignoring these two subforums and spending most of my "general discussion" time in the ATs and Powersets forum. I don't think I was alone in that, which of course diluted the focus of that forum.
