I hate you Devs

So, let's recap. A group of developers (presumably) turned an advertised social event into a festival of griefing, exhibiting behaviors (fighting in Pocket D, camping the reclamators) that can and have led to suspensions for mortal players.
Just so I'm clear on this, is that okay because they were developers, or because it happened on the test server and not to anybody's "real" characters?
Just so I understand the precise configuration of the double standard being applied.

It's posts like this that ensure this sort of thing will never happen again. Way to take away the beach ball pal.

These kind of parties have happened before and they will happen again.
I understand the nature of Photon's question though it reads fairly harshly at 1st glance. I dont see him calling for a ban on these types of events and he admits to not having been at this party at all.
I'd have to answer back to Captain Photon that while the "Dev Celeb" factor plays a role in the fun I had. The nature of the Test Server covers anything the Devs wish to do there.
Rules, game mechanics and even the toons you have transferred over are not guaranteed to be stable nor function in a normal manner on the Test Server.
I dislike PVP as much or more than anyone but getting ganked by some Devs in their pocket universe that they set the rules in didn't lessen my fun anymore than getting insta PL'd to level 40 in COV beta did.

I capped my debt on my native rad/sonic too, but it was awesomely fun. He goes after giant monsters on a regular basis, so that was absolutely awesome.

They learned from the last Event. They camped the hospitals for I think it was Cuppa's party, or one of the prior anniversary shindigs
[/ QUOTE ]
Not true. I was playing as Manticore during the Cuppa-thon and was responsible for spawning all of the critters during that event. None of the devs ever camped the hospitals. I spawned the RV versions of the Freedom Phalanx and Arachnos AVs at one point and I believe what happened was some crafty player managed to train some of them up into the rez stations. I was babysitting everything I spawned and killing off the things that were wreaking too much destruction. In the chaos, I lost track of a few of the AVs and just assumed that all of the players had taken them out. As soon as I heard over broadcast that they AVs had gotten up there I went up and killed them off. It was never us griefing you. At least not directly.
I suspect that this is what happened this time. Ghost Widow was actually the only dev who had permission to spawn anything during this event. I don't believe anyone working at Cryptic or NCSoft attacked another player. We actually have very strict guidelines about what we can or can't do while logged into a signature characters. So if you were attacked by Lord Recluse it was undoubtedly one of the AI critters spawned by GW.
We took a lot of extra steps to make sure everyone was aware of what was going on this time so everyone could avoid it if they wanted too. We had 8 or 9 instances of Pocket D open during the event and things were only being spawned in 1 instance at a time, with plenty of fair warning beforehand.

Hey BaB, thanks for the mayhem! It was lots of fun! Though I didn't see the Freedom Phalanx AVs at any point, poo.
Honestly, if you didn't want to fight AVs, there were instances of Pocket D where nothing was spawned the entire night (Pocket D 2 for example). Rule of thumb: if the instance you were on had a power supressor, nothing was going to kill you in there.
Edit: BAB, I heard that a Nemesis horse was spawned, so I was wondering if there are any plans to actually use that NPC model soonish. Also, is Rularuu the Ravager currently just the model with no AI, or could it potentially be summoned to give us a major @#% kicking?

It was great fun. I would have kept at it, but even with my graphics low, I was getting so much lag from the 10 WLs I was dead before my attacks activated. That was why I didn't try and help with the Titans and Eochai/Jacks. That would have been a blast.

I want a (0 debt) pvp zone when the devs are ALLOWED to throw whatever they want at the players.

You guys camped the hospitals during the Rikti invasion at the end of beta! And don't try to tell me you didn't, when you awaken at a hospital and Rikti suddenly materialize. Well......
I guess you've never had that happen in Live, only with Tsoo Sorcerers?

...wait, so dev's aren't allowed to attack us at ALL? It wasn't just you guys choosing not to attack us??
I must say, that is utter poop! There should just be a fight the dev's day in Siren's Call or somewhere so we can end that!
Come on, it'd be WAY too much fun to ignore!
Tsoo in the Hosiptals... I've seen that so many times it hurts my eyes... Running around Talos, get blasted, rez in the hospital, Tsoo Sorc right there with a big grin saying "Herro, I brought woo some frowers. Now lie back down and get some debt."
I think i have a screenie of it somewhere. Also the other night i was in Atlas heading to RV when I say a civilian NPC walking on air in the basement of City Hall. He then walked through the wall... I think with all the dimensional traffic that RV is causing we're getting bleed through in our dimension. Will somebody talk to Portal Corp about stabilizing those rifts better?
Thanks, I'd really appreciate that.
You know, I hate to be a killjoy, and I'm really glad that it went relaly well for msot people, but I think I'm with Captain Photon on this one. If I were trying to have a conversation or somethign, and then a whole bunch of archvillains magically apeared out fo no-where and ganked me "for fun" I wouldn't be entertained: I'd be veyr, very irritated. Frnakly I've never been terribly impressed by the "some meet a signature NPC" sort fo thigns in general.
Still, we seem to be in the minority, which is probably why I don't ussually bother to attned dev-sponsored events anyway, so as long as most of the people there had fun, I supose the objective was achieved.

Yep, Founders' Falls, I got the demos! It was really fun, too.
I remmber a while back, Ghost Widow had decided to come onto the Victory server. She was helping some prominent villain SG spawn the Arachnos Flier. She did it twice I believe, and helped kill Deathsurge, and some other Monster I don't remmber. We also did a Malta mission, where there was two team-wipes with her on the team.
Had a load of fun, and took a ton of screenshots (I later found out I had been pressing the wrong button for every screenshot I was taking, which seriously dissappointed me). And then thirty minutes after we were finished with that, and all the people were crowded around in Cap Au Diable. Ghost Widow started talking to players and she stayed in character the whole time.
Even when one guy said something about Ghost Widow being a weakling and a pawn. (She actually 1-shotted or used the special kill button devs have to instantly kill someone.) She killed him, and then he rez'ed. She killed him again. I think it was peril who was killed all those times. I remmber when I went and teamed with peril a couple days later saing "Dude you got owned by Ghost Widow!".
Dev's are fun to play with, when they are on their sig characters.

I gather from the hypothetical tone of your post that you weren't actually there, much like Captain Photon. (Neither was I.) Without first-hand experience, and lacking a detailed description of what actually happened, how can you judge whether what happened was suitable or not?
From the reports in this thread of those who were there, it sounds like (a) there was plenty of warning, and (b) the players ASKED for AVs to be spawned. Not at all like you're describing above.
There's nothing wrong with not liking an event, and expressing ones' opinions on the subject, but at least it should be based on something that actually happened rather than speculation

wait, someone has died to the brawl of a tsoo sorcerer?
I, and my hubby AceMACE, were very pleased with the event...I loved the spawns, loved seeing GW and overall had fun running from D1 to D5 to D8 (etc, etc) in an attempt to get to bring down the spawns.
There was fair warning and, if there were actually many deaths, then it was poor leadership - if a team can't handle it tell 'em to pull back before there's a wipe...perhaps there weren't enough sidekicks or people altogether forgot to help others by offering - I dunno. What I do know is that I was one of the ones helping to take down some of the Titans at the top of slope...we ALL knew they were there so grow up.
The ONLY thing I thought was inappropriate was when GW said that "the first rule of getting a title is not to ask" and then she disappeared shortly there after, presumably because she was slightly peeved that she kept getting asked for them - to that I also say 'grow up'...c'mon GW, you KNEW you'd be asked for them!!!!!
Ok, I'm done now

She left because she had been in that instance for 15-20 minutes already. They were still club hopping at that stage. It wasn't peevishness at being asked, it was Standard procedure, she was just making a little joke. I got my title form her by joking in broadcast that even though I've asked for her number several times, I still didn't get it (lemur may be a hero but he gets crushes easily). A moment or two later I noticed "Numberless" over my head. At which point I sent her a tell thanking her, and she responded politely and pleasantly. All that happened just about the same time you mentioned her saying that and leaving, so I maintain you just sort of misread what was going on.
At these events they are almost always in Tell Hell, people who feel the need to send them messages and ask questions that no one else gets to hear, instead of talking to them and coializing along with everyone else. Add to that the fact that they're at the office together and talking to each other, and basically there's a lot of things going on. They come across as distracted quite a lot of the time, and no surprise.

Nah, that's just those science geeks and their experiments. It's been like that the 14 months I've been playing, anyway (well before the RV temporal equipment was there). Isn't it "operating as intended"?
Dec out.
It will happen again. It is too much fun for too many people. I ended up the night with over 30k of debt (On a Test native character, so just as "real" as my others) because I went and helped out with the WLs for a while. We took out 5 of them, but then the other 10 at the bottom of the ski slope were too much and we lost too many people. Wish I had went and seen all the Kronos Titans though. Would have been a slide show even with my graphics way down, but still fun.
