Thanks War Witch! Very excited about the future.
I can share the 2 fondest memories I have of this game.
1.) The first (although cliche) would be the first day of playing this game. I read about it in a computer magazine before it was released, and was so hyped about it. It finally came out, and I got it. This was my first ever online game period, and I couldn't play it because I didn't have a graphics card. After getting together some money, I finally bought a new computer and was able to play.
First character was my dream fire/fire blaster. I was listening to trustCompany's "Hover" when the game finished updating and I loaded into outbreak.
2.) The first day I got fly on my fire/fire blaster. I had been looking so forward to fly, that this moment just blew my mind. I flew around Steel Canyon for HOURS. I remember it storming outside IRL too. :P
But the past 6 years have been great. Here's to 6 more! -
Well, that was fun...
I learned... absolutely nothing new...
Avoided every PvP question, and no new info. -
Hey all.
Where does energy blast stand compared to the other primaries in terms of ST and AoE damage? I imagine it's pretty low on the list for AoE, but what about single target? -
I will never ever kick anyone off my team based on powers. If you wanna roll a petless MM, I'll question you in my head, but wont mention it. If you wanna roll an empathy and only have 2 powers out of your primary, whatever. If it's fun for you, it's fun for me.
But if you decide to be an *** on my team, whether you're the petless MM or the purpled Elec/SD scrapper, you will get the boot and probably a /ignore. -
Quote:Thank you. Pretty much this for me too.Me, team mates who know how to work as a team. AT doesn't matter, as long as they aren't all "RAWR I'm a villain, I can solo this entire map without you guys".
I don't need a buffer only, or a tank, or anything like that. I think every AT teams well with a MM. -
Yeah Traps can do fine without Stamina.
I grabbed it anyways on my Bots/Traps, but before I respeced into Stamina, I was doing fine. -
Unfortunately, I don't have any tips either.
I've just come to terms with the fact that he enjoys dying. -
I can't decide if I want to roll a /storm or a /thermal.
I've never played either on a MM before, and I LOVE storm. But thermal fits in so well thematically, and I could see forge + that pet buff thing to do some killer damage. All that plus the melt armor...
Granted, storm gets a nice -res as well, plus some good pets...
GRRRR Choices are so hard to make! -
Quote:Yeah, it's very hard to tell the difference, but there is a minor one.Got to level 6 on my Demon/Pain MM and I am rather disappointed that there wasn't any noticeable change. On the other MMs, each upgrade gives a graphical addition to the pets, but there is nothing except that aura to indicate fire demonlings and cold demonlings. Thugs have some weird system for graphical change, but there is a change.
The fire dudes get ember/spark thing that rise up from the aura, and the ice dudes get a more defined cold aura. -
Yes, I believe the change was added all thanks to AE. They didn't bother to think about normal mission content.
-
My list
-Weather. I want rain so bad.
-More powersets
-Better PvP. Current PvP is about the worst I've seen.
-Better game engine, so the "impossible" powersets can finally be made.
-More costume options.
-Better NPC humans walking around. Have them interact more.
-More random "heroic" or "villainous" events. Instead of fighting purse snatchers all the time, maybe add some new interaction between us and NPCs.
-Maybe another VEAT and EAT.
All I can think of now. -
Quote:Very well said. You know Dr. Aeon, it's interesting that you're preaching patience when you know full well (or should know as an employee) that time isn't a luxury PS/CoX can afford. I know where to find NCSoft quarterly reports and what to look for when it comes to CoX revenue. I'm sorry but I couldn't help myself. This is part of what I do for a living. In anycase, since the introduction of AE in April of last year, CoX sales revenue all the sudden plummeted 40% (compared to a 43% revenue decline in a rolling 12 month period ending in Q4 2009). Basically, during the course of Q1 2009, CoX revenue went down 3% which can be attributed to the natural decline of most aging MMOs. Then came AE in Q2 in the final two quarters of 2009, revenue fell off a cliff and dropped 40%.
Next let's look at the chronology of AE itself. The first 2-3 months after the introduction of AE, there was no doubt that it was wildly popular and widely utilized. Everyone and their extended family were crammed into the AE buildings in AP or Mercy/Cap. That kind of player interest couldn't have been bad from the revenue standpoint and the fact that revenue only dropped 3% from Q1 to Q2 of last year seems to reflect just that. Then came the fine-tuning or nerfs to be more blunt. In chronological progression, ticket cap, custom critter exp, MM pets, and now allied NPCs, just to name a few of the big ones. If you log on during peak hours right now, the players in Mercy and Cap AE buildings are a mere small fraction of where it was a year ago. Going back to the revenue decline in 2009, you can't honestly tell me that these two trends had no correlation. The fact is that drastic and persistent nerfing of popular (and maybe even integral) features in a MMO can contribute significantly to the eventual demise of the game itself. After all it has already happened several times in the short history of MMORPGs. Two prominent examples would be SWG and more recently, Tabula Rasa.
Now let us consider the obvious fact that PS is not exactly flush with subscribers and rolling in dough (at least compared to years before). It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the bigwigs at NCSoft corporate have already expressed their concern over the steep decline in CoX revenue last year. After all in the corporate world, if a product line suddenly loses 40% of sales revenue in a matter of months, it usually gets discontinued. NCSoft may be willing to deal with it for now given that the overall company profitability skyrocketed last year due to the popularity of AION in Asia but how long is it going to last? What if GR doesn't generate as much revenue as desired? That projection isn't all that far fetched given the short term memory nature of the MMO population, ample competition and the fact that CoX is an aging game. This is not to mention that patience isn't exactly a virtue in the world dominated by corporate balance sheets.
With all of this in mind, I am simply shocked that you guys haven't switched to a more conservative approach when it comes to AE fine-tuning. The nerf now and deal with it later approach as exhibited by this latest episode is extremely shortsighted and irrational. It's almost as if PS is willing to alienate some player now while banking on GR to inject fresh blood later but that scenerio is far from a guarantee. Regardless of what the "good riddance, let them leave" or "we don't need players like that anyways" crowd is saying, CoX is currently not on a solid enough footing to be able to afford the hemorrhaging of even more subscribers (revenue).
P.S: If you dislike my bluntness and challenging tone, feel free to put a temporary or even permanent ban on me. If that is to be a consequence of me saying what needs to said, so be it. My main account was already canceled prior to all of this and this account only has about two weeks left. However, allow me to say this one final thing. The reason I canceled originally was due to a perfect storm of busier real life schedule, low CoV population and other diversions. It was not the result of some ragequit over any particular prior issue. However, now that I've seen the way this particular nerf was handled and the continuation of collective tunnel vision on the part of PS, I doubt I would've renewed anyways. Good luck.
I too have been wondering about the revenue of this game. I did cancel my subscription after this patch, and I know friends who have done the same. I've been playing too long to base my cancellation on a ragequit, but most of my friends did.
I really hope GR does turnout well for PS, because I do not want to see this game come to and end. But the devs need to sort out their priorities when dealing with the nerfs in this game. Or else people will end up ragequitting and it won't be good for PS. -
Quote:Yeah, but that's how YOU want to play. Some people have played the "flavor of the city" or the "real" game too much. Some of us have done our fair share of the "intelligent content".However, to newer players, farms and the "easy route to 50" are not the path to a long stay in the City. I'll be glad to see when this behavior is stopped. Those kind of behaviors don't endear you to the flavor of the City, they tempt you to easy and quick gain make normal progress in the game seem slow and boring or too hard because they aren't used to actually having to fight intelligently to defeat their enemies.
Yes, I'll admit it was a bit out of hand. A defender shouldn't be able to bring down a GM that fast with the assistance of 30+ allies. It's broken.
It was nice though to level up easier. I hate pretty much every aspect of the pre-30 content. I hate not having SOs. I hate not having stamina. Some of those AE missions let me get to a point where I enjoyed the game again, with pretty quick results. That is why I'm bummed about the changes. -
Quote:My back too was broken by this. I canceled my subscription as well.I'm curious why, after five years, this is the straw that broke the camel's back?
We've seen hotfixes and temporary solutions come down the pipe before, often with a much longer promised wait time for the "permanent solution" (see: PVP 2.0). In this case, we are being told that the permanent fix is coming with Issue 17, or shortly thereafter (definately before Going Rogue), which is supposed to release later this month.
Some good stories are adversely affected (the amazing Teen Phalanx story, for one), but there was no way they could have let the jelly bean exploit stand once it got out how to remove the attack powers from your custom critter allies.
The alternative is bringing out the banhammer again, which I'm sure no one wants a repeat of from last year.
Just curious. I can see being hot about it now, especially if one or more of your stories was adversely affected. I tested one of mine last night, and it was hit, so I removed it for now and saved the file on my local drive to be brought out again when the permanent solution is in.
Here's hoping you decided to stick around after all. Don't give away all your stuff quite yet.
Granted, this wasn't the only reason why, and I'm trying not to be a baby about it. Maybe I shouldn't even bother posting about it. I doubt you guys could care less if I canceled my subscription. I understand.
But this happens all the damn time. I start to enjoy a feature of this game, and BAM, the devs "fix" it. It happened with PvP. I looooved the old PvP. The only reason I played this game pre-I13 was cause of PvP. BAM. PvP 2.0 comes in, and it's not fun anymore. It wasn't needed.
I enjoyed everyone being on an even scale with SO's. BAM. Inventions. It still hasn't grown on me. Maybe it's cause I'm old school, but I hate the invention system. I know it's not required, and you can do just fine with SO's, but I always feel inferior to those with "teh purple sets lol". So I have to spend time getting a ridiculous amount of inf. to stay in competition with those people.
I've played the regular PvE missions so much, I can just about remember every mission from every contact. It got boring. Leveling felt slow and tedious. Then comes AE. New content yay! And then comes the farms. Now I can level up a character to 22 relatively easy. The part I hate most about CoX is that you do the low level content SO much, it's awful. It doesn't help the fact that you're undeniably weak, and I suffer until SOs. I love the farms. I know the devs don't want people leveling up this fast, so I understand this fix. No problem. But I just can't bring myself to do the tedious PvE anymore.
So every time I start to have fun with something, the devs change it, and I'm just tired of it. That's why I too am canceling my subscription. I'll be back for sure for GR, hoping to see some new content finally. But I wish the devs would quit screwing around with the stupid **** in this game, and just focus on more important details.
Anyways, see y'all in July hopefully. -
**** it.
At this point why not?
The devs fix AE xp gains more than anything else in the game. I'm getting sick of it. If that's all they're concerned about, just get rid of the XP.

Awesome show!
I listened to all 3 in one night... Is that bad?
Keep up the good work! -

I didn't find it funny. I didn't fall for it either, I knew right away it was April fools.
But that's just because there is almost nothing I HATE more than April Fools day. I mean I HATE IT.
The concept is just stupid. I don't mind getting pranked on, but it's so stupid to have a peculiar date, when I'm expecting it... It's just stupid. -
Honestly, the personal attacks are fine to get. Especially as a bubbler. Before the general consensus was that taking the personal attacks = noob, but that's far from the truth. Why not add damage to your bots? I think it's dumb when I see a MM sitting there with his arms crossed not doing anything. There's so much more you can add by taking some of the attacks. Photon Grenade is excellent, the stun stacks well with the protector bots'.
On my protector bots, I have a combo of Acc, Dam, Defense, and a little END reduction in there. They do tend to blow through end pretty quickly without. -
I ****ing HATE Aprils Fools day.
-
All my MM's are on Freedom, so sign me up if it happens there.
-
I'll second making a Brute. That or a Scrapper.
Since you're new, you might wanna try out Shield Defense. Once you get Shield Charge at 35, it will become your favorite AoE power evar. -

She said serious bids only guys...
