One big thing that was player suggested that might not seem like it was:

Auto Logout.

We used to have huge threads featuring screenshots of people standing around Paragon with Away messages of "Gone to the Gym, be back in 5 hours," "At work, I'll be back tomorrow," and such. Many people believed this contributed to lag, so they asked for an auto-logout feature.

auto logout: I think also players explained that being auto logged out while in missions would be bad esp. while solo - you'd have to start the mission over - and that's why you don't get auto logged out while in a mission.

Going by the amount of suggestions on these boards (sensical or not) you'd be hard pressed to find any change that *wasn't* mentioned in some obscure corner of the boards, somewhere...

Back during Beta there was huge debate on how 'Combat Flight' was a rotten power that should be much faster because pedestrians walked quicker . . .

It was suggested they change the name to 'Hover' to more adequately reflect what the power did instead of changing the power.

I seem to remember that Coyote was added to Outbreak as a result of that player's relationship with the game. Forgive my ignorance, but didn't that player pass away?


Ideally, the tank will die precisely as everyone else starts fighting, allowing aggro to be spread evenly among the blaster. -seebs, "How to Suck at CoH/CoV" Guide

Hmmm. Maybe thats why they called the Peacebringer Inherrant version of Hover "Combat Flight"

Also, to the poster asking about Coyote, yes, the player passed away. His name was Mathew Bragg I believe. I didnt know him, but I did think it was a very classy thing on the Devs part to replace the generic cop contact in Outbreak with him.

The old animation looked really nice, I'll give you that! But it was just like the Trick Arrow and Archery animations now... it looked very sweet, but was painfully slow, specially for a PBAoE heal.

When Dark Miasma had the old TG animation, the lack of status protection was a boon, as immobilized and held teammates could not run away before the animation finished and the heal went off.

Indeed, Coyote is an homage to a player who passed away. His friends posted his story to the boards, the thread got a lot of discussion, and the devs apparantly liked the idea.

Beyond trusting the posters who make the claim, you don't know. I'd say most guides share that flaw (although some of them are at least testable).

For more recent changes, you have the suggestion forum to consult as "proof", but you'll never prove anything to a troll. Reasonable people can judge for themselves which posters to believe.

The only suggestion that I can think of that hasn't been posted yet, is the ability to view our own info the way we view everyone else's. A lot of people were wanting this just to see what they look like to other players, and giving them an idea of how their Bio's actually looked outside of the ID screen. Seems like such a small thing, but there were so many happy happy people when it came about.

The gender-specific change to Man in Black was also suggested on the forums for female characters who didn't like being called men.

Well, I wouldn't count the mention of Capes in I2 as a player suggestion. The devs wanted capes in at release, but were unwilling to do them simple/static.

And disabling it when in a TF anywere, as at the time TFs didn't auto-exemp, so if you or your lower level buddy left while you were exemplar'd, you got permakicked from the TF for being too high level.

Just off hand -

Blaster inherant name changed to Defiance.
Police Bots in Portal Corps.

And yes - the Sonics changes and Alliance chat were big ones in my mind. There really are a lot of player suggested changes that have been made.

Chilling Embrace getting -Damage.

Me telling them the change to Chilling Embrace was bad, backing it up with numbers, and then changing it.

Me convincing Statesman to change Frozen Armor and Glacial Armor from 15% DEF to 17% DEF.

Complaints about Wet Ice still taking DEF enhancements even thought it only offered a 0.5% base, now it offers 1.0% and doesn't take enhancements.

Gauntlet was an idea that specifically came from the forums.

Vigilance however, was NOT an idea from the forums and proves the difference between a player suggested inherent and a "developer compensated" one.

So many QoL changes. . . I'd forgotten some of them. I don't miss "screw up a power choice, live with it forever". I don't miss trading influence 9,999 at a time. I don't miss "all missions are Heroic missions, and the mission bonus is pathetic." I don't miss "Teleport with velocity".

. . .In a "much less lifechanging" category, Damage Resistance insps were suggested repeatedly on the boards before being implemented.
