  1. Been playing since the day of retail release
    - Never did a Hamidon raid
    - Never got a PvP drop
    - Never unlocked the most recent lvl 50 power abilities, never did the missions for them
    - Never did the full Rularuu story lines or the really long TFs

    And probably...
    - Never found a game as good as this one
  2. This is a nice post. Yes CO is no City of, but it isn't awful. You can turn off the heavy black outlines in the Settings tab, so the characters look more like CoX. The animations are not that great, nothing like CoX. You can make some interesting combinations of powers with the Freeform approach. It's better than DCUO,: if CoX is a 10, CO is about a 7 and DCUO is about a 4.

    So...

It's been a long time since I've played them, so I'll check out CO and DCUO, but I'm sure they won't hold a candle to CoH. Maybe play some XBox games; Halo 4 will be here in November. Still can't believe NCSoft doesn't want my money, but they won't be getting it through GW2.

    Thanks

Thank you to everyone who posted here on the forums, especially the red names. Thank you to everyone, like Arcanaville, who helped me understand this game better. Thank you to those like Dechs Kaison, TheConfessor and Luminara, who wrote guides that changed our understanding of this awesome game.

Thank you to the people that teamed with me when I was a noob, and helped me learn the ropes. Thank you to the noobs that came after me and kept this game going.

Thank you to my mom, who read me Batman when I was young. Thanks again to her for saying "I'm not reading this to you any more. If you want to read this, you will have to learn to read it yourself."

Yes, Batman was the reason I learned to read. At age 3.

Thank you to everyone that ever dreamed of being a hero from the first time you picked up a comic book. Keep your dream alive.

    My last post.

We have been here a long time together, CB. Good luck to you. I'll miss this place.
  7. Today is a sad day in Paragon. I have really enjoyed playing with all of you. Discussing and debating the ways Blasters could be made better, we finally saw what might be, and now... we will take to the skies no more. I will truly miss blasting more than many things I have lost in my past.

May the forces of good be with you all.

Given the power's long-ish 15 second downtime, I was wondering what sort of recharge would be a realistic expectation on a high-end build with, say, near perma hasten.

Right now, I'm leveling a DB/NRG Blaster and having a ball with it. Corners are your friends, especially with Tenebrous Tentacles and Gloom, but I was wondering if I could take him a step towards the ridiculously awesome.

I'd check myself, but I have no mids.
I put the OF proc in my Dark/Ice blaster's Torrent. Since TT does not have -KB, I have found a Torrent that does KD insted of KB much more useful on teams. I have the Dark APP so they stay in the cones for those attacks as well.

Updated to the new OS X yesterday. This is what I have found to happen as well.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest. Three builds: Crab (great AoE), Bane (mace bashing FTW), or Huntsman. They play differently, and you can switch based on your mood!
  11. Make Timb Bomb useful, either convert to Hand Grenade or Omega clone.

A PBAoE sleep is Ice Manip's highest power? Seriously, how about a PBAoE Hold to fit with Ice Blast?

Gun Drone and Dark Servant that you don't need to resummon, but can only have one out at a time sounds very reasonable.

Great thread, thanks for starting it.

Well, of course, who hasn't? It's too much to ask for!

Also the package idea is great, like in the winter event you can unlock various pieces. Maybe an Apply Sunscreen emote, or a T-shirt that reads "Survived 2012 Summer Event", or a water dripping aura, or a Kick Sand temp power!

    Flip flops

I think it would be fun to have been able to unlock a flip flop/sandal costume piece with the Summer Event.

The unknown to me is how Energy will compare to Ice. Ice is getting the absorb toggle. One thing to note is that because Absorb is considered an effect that is not as reliable as regen, Absorb toggles will be stronger than regen toggles numerically. While the regen toggles (and energize, more or less, will likely get close to this level with SO recharge slotting - the advantage comes from higher recharge) are designed to deliver about 1%/sec of regen and be half-enhanceable (to 1.5%/sec regen - about +360% regen) Absorb toggles are according to Arbiter Hawk going to be 1.67%/sec absorb and fully enhanceable (to 3.33%/sec absorb - that's a whopping 800% regen if you could use it all efficiently, which is a tricky thing to do).

A min/maxer who stacks a lot of resistance on /Ice to improve the efficiency of the Absorb ticks could end up much more survivable than /Energy even at high recharge. I can guestimate the difference, but it'll take in-game testing to be certain how that all shakes out.
I have had the same thoughts on my Dark/Ice blaster, but I couldn't describe it as accurately as you have. The Dark primary has a self-heal, and the -ToHit, ranged Def, Ice slows, and Tough/Dark Embrace are very helpful in survivability. I was actually thinking of dropping Chilling Embrace, since it is a melee range power, until I read about these changes.

Now, I have to figure out where to get extra slots for CE and fit in the new, crashless nuke and slots for it as well. I might even pick up Ice Patch again if he will be in melee range more. I think it's actually a good problem to have.
  15. Thank you for reporting all this. My western-theme DP Blaster will get a Fighting/Presence rework for sure.

    I wish there was a western-theme rifle model, say a Coach-style shotgun.

All in all these changes sound great.
  16. Interesting idea. I think you could probably get most of the effects you are looking for here with macros. There are macros that will make insps out of other insps, and macros that will use an insp even if it is not in the F1 row, I believe. Some people even use those gaming mice with multiple buttons and tie the buttons to the macros. I don't think I would pay for something that just fired off an inspiration, though.

This. Why a remake of the origin story? The first one was really good. Couldn't they have just kept going with a new story (Spiderman 4) and a different actor as the lead?

    5% Chance of Scrapper knockdown.

    7. Consider changes that have high gameplay benefits over and above pure numerical ones.
All Blaster attacks now knock Scrapper targets just out of melee range.

(Oh come on, you know that would be fun!)
  20. Great suggestions, Arcanaville. Without sounding like I work for NCSoft (I don't), I would say that if we want to beta test these changes and have input, we have to be able to get on the beta server, and that pretty much means you have to be a VIP.

    So it's Tuesday

Wasn't there supposed to be a Sci-Fi costume release today?

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=290813

I don't see an announcement on the main CoH page, and there is usually an email when something like this is released at the store.

    Did I miss something?
  22. Insightful as always, Arcanaville.

Here are some things that might add the "whoa" factor:

    1. Blaster snipes (and only Blaster snipes) should defeat an even con minion without BU or Aim. Add the same Critical percentages that Scrappers have, increasing with rank so there is a small chance of doing double damage on a Lt or Boss. I'm thinking "Act of Valor" sniper shots - that guy was amazing.

    2. All nukes ranged and crashless. Adjust damage accordingly, but the suicide run or need to be invisible to be effective has GOT to go.

    3. Clear, obvious increase in ranged damage. Right now its hard to tell the difference between my Corruptors and Blasters in terms of ranged damage. Add Assault and the difference is even less because the Blaster bonus from Assault is so small. As I review this, adding Scrapper Critical chances to Blaster ranged attacks (maybe at half the percentage chance) might really add to the AT.

    4. Better secondaries. How about Trick Arrow that is single target or small group debuff? An uninterrupted heal in Devices? Something where attacking contributes to the team and the support ATs don't have to babysit you.

My personal view is that the movie version of Iron Man is the best definition for Blasters as the game is today.

I like your test of how the revision will be complete. I'm less of a numbers person, but here's my test: if a Scrapper can jump into a given group, beat them from melee and emerge ready for the next group, I want to be able to do the exact same thing from range.

Agreed, but it's not unreasonable for the OP to put this here for increased visibility. Back before Defiance 2.0, the Blaster community went TWO YEARS without a Redname post addressing the issues we brought up (in those days it was Castle, because our assigned AT rep never really posted after his/her initial greeting of "Hi I'm the Blaster rep").

Blasters currently underperform. Many experienced players are voicing their concerns in the Blaster forum and have some excellent ideas (i.e. Fulmens, Arcanaville). Some here describe the Blaster forum as a "black hole" and that's not too far off actually; I worry that we will go another extended time period before someone updates our AT again.
  24. Every time this discussion comes up, I say the same thing: Change Time Bomb to Hand Grenade. Use the grenade animation that already exists. Screw the cottage rule, Time Bomb is terrible.

Heck the purchasable grenade temp powers are better.
