Help me cure altitus! (For now...)

Alright, here we go. I have many toons, a lot of 50s spread across 3 servers. Most of them are melee(scrappers at that, with SR being my favorite armor).

Now, I love melee and most my "ranged" characters are melee. Fire/Rad Corr, Elec/Elec Dom, ect... Maybe it's the ADD kicking in, but I haven't made anything lately I can see as a new 50, and I want to change that.

I've been looking into something that can survive melee, yet that has some ranged abilities. As such, the thoughts hit me as a Plant Dom, KM/SR or Shield scrapper, Mind/? Dom...I've been leaning heavily on Doms to give something different a try. Building Doms in Mid's is something I really enjoy doing, yet haven't taken one up yet.

Enough of my ranting...what do you guys think would break me outta my shell? I love AoE anything (control, destruction, ect). Plus I would like to keep to my play style(kill or be killed) somewhat.

Anything at all taken into consideration. I must break this cycle of mine, and get me a new toon I will enjoy to 50

Fire/Psi Dom or Plant/Psi Dom will give you tons of AoE and if you have access to inventions they will become especially absurd.

Questions about the game, either side? /t @Neuronia or @Neuronium, with your queries!

Tried an EAT? SoAs sound particularly suited to what you're looking for.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest. Three builds: Crab (great AoE), Bane (mace bashing FTW), or Huntsman. They play differently, and you can switch based on your mood!

Ideally, the tank will die precisely as everyone else starts fighting, allowing aggro to be spread evenly among the blaster. -seebs, "How to Suck at CoH/CoV" Guide

Thanks for some suggestions guys. I've rolled a Fire/Psi dom to see how it plays out. Did some research and seems they might have what I'd like.

I do have a SoA at 41, Crab/Mace dual built. Had him for a few years and might rebuild and give him a shot. Just got a little bored with em.

Was a tough choice between Fire/Psy and Fire*3. Drain Psyche won it though. Had a Rad/MM blaster and DP was amazing.

Hell, might just make both and give em a run. Plant/Dark Dom sounds fun as well.....Gah, never ends...

I'm going to second (third?) that you should try a SoA. Probably the crab spider variant if you can stomach the backpack or a fortunata/widow if not.

With the crab you get good defenses, more than decent resists, a plethora of pets and solid status protection with a full selection of melee and ranged attacks.

Fire/Psi is up to level 24, and a handful of fun. Once stunned, easy peasy to slaughter the rest...End is a problem, but that's my fault. I slotted for awesome and not end redux.

Going to have to dust off the SoA with so many suggestions...Get back into em and he sounds like a lot of fun, and AoE-y.

I second Plant/Psi. Once you get it up to perma-Dom (which took me until about level 33, about 200mil give or take though I snagged the LotG's with hero merits) it's ridiculous. You can stack your holds up to mag 30 or so on a single target, and you have multiple ways to lock down large groups. On top of that, Drain Psyche gives you /Regen levels of healing, and that stacks with Spirit Tree.

For Fire/Psi, or anything /Psi really, you need to LOVE Drain Psyche. That power is the alpha and omega of /Psi, even hitting just three targets will boost your recovery to 7 end/second or so. Slot it for recharge and healing, that will let you use it early and often for a huge amount of healing.

Permadom should be one of your goals late-game and it is actually pretty easy to do - I was kind of surprised - I think all of my level 50 doms have it now. I can't imagine not making one without it.

Dark/Dark Controller has insane survivability although the damage may not be up there with some other Controller sets. I'd suspect Fire/Dark would give similar survivability with more damage.

Who do I have to *&^% around here to get more Targeted AoE recipes added?

I have a Dark/Rad Controller I made just to see how it played out. The Rad and Dark debuffs mean that you hand out solid damage in good safety.

She was level 14 before her first defeat and now I'm trying to flesh out her backstory because she cruised to 20 in record time. I think it's like naming a stray dog; at this point I'm obligated to keep her.

spines/willpower/fire stalker, or spines/regen/fire stalker or scrapper.. its an en-game build and leveling will probably not be very fun, but. you can have 2 ranged cones, 2 ranged immobs, ranged hold, ranged blast, ranged aoe, which gives you very respectable ranged attack chains. with no need to ever bother going into melee range. though you will have to slot impale for a bit of +range. toss on the incredible survivability of willpower/regen and you have an incredibly hard to kill ranged damage machine. you could even pick up the requisite melee attacks and have even more single target dps when its safe to get close.

Lol! After rereading what i wrote, gonna have to go roll me up a spines/will stalker.

Altitis wouldn't be a problem if trials were actually fun to grnd incarnate on. WTB incarnate TFs that give trial rewards, that way I can feel useful post 50 again as opposed to being on a league and feel like I'm doing nothing with a 10b toon.
