A Nerf on the Horizon?
I felt a bit ill after reading this too. Or maybe it was the buffalo wings...
Anyone who thinks Hurricane isn't eventually going to get nerfed somehow is living in a fantasy world. Even if they don't want to nerf it NOW they will eventually cave in and weaken it, particularly given only one side has it.

I doubt it. They leave Defender powers alone, unless we either prove (with much nashing of teeth) that they're not working right or when a power lets Defenders get close or near to the power of a Controller (see Dark Miasma, i5) or Blaster (see En Field). The only fixes to Hurricane I can see would be to fix that damned bug with -range debuffs.
I'd just expect players to end up getting easier access to tohit buffs and repel protection.
I doubt hurricane will be nerfed. It's pretty much completely ineffectual against ranged opponents, and melee opponents can push right through it given enough momentum.
The only thing that might happen is suppression on Repel effects in PvP so folks can't lock someone in a corner.

Well, it's been labeled as 'working as intended', but the rough and tumble is that Blaster, Dominator, Defender, Controller, Corruptor, and Mastermind melee attacks can be debuffed to 0 range, effectively never able to be used while debuffed. Meanwhile, Tanker, Brute, Stalker, and Scrapper ranged attacks don't suffer a -range debuff at all.
There's no real -range floor, other than 0.
They wouldn't nerf defenders. We're the most balanced AT, after all.
iirc, technically there is no such thing as Melee. Melee is just a ranged attack of 5 feet.
Melee classes get some sort of 'resistance', by special cases, to the range debuff, otherwise they'll lose the 5 feet and be unable to attack. All the other ATs were left as is. So they lose their melee capabilities if hit by hurricane as the 5 feet range of melee drops to 0.
Probably, making the range debuff floor at 5 would solve the problem, but...

Then everyone can have their range debuffed again.

I dont think this can happen because of defenders. For Controllers, you take away hurricane and they still have all their tools from their primary to defend them. Take it away from defenders and...storm defenders get squished like all other defenders. Its literally their best and only defense.
Only controllers, with holds and containment, make it seem overpowered. And considering how ive stood still with my /storm controller and let people try to beat me, only to find three melee people (a stalker and two scrappers who werent spine or claw) beat me. Its not overpowered...you just have to think about it. Ive been spanked with hurricane on PLENTY of times.
The only problem I've seen with stormers and hurricane is from multiple applications of the -range debuff.
As Far as I can see it, whatever 1 application is, should be the floor. No stacking of the -range debuff.

Technically there is INDEED melee and range. Just recently a poster made a guide for a "new" more accurate brawl index. The data he based it on is extracted from pigg-files (the actual code of the game).
You can see very clear that all attacks are either range or melee. Link here

Of course there is a distinction. Consider the SR toggles that protect against Ranged attacks and against Melee attacks. If there were no distinction, they couldn't work.
If they nerfed Huricane, it would a direct response to something from PvP, which they've said previously that they won't do.

Oh, well, we're balanced but we're not allowed to have anything resembling a good control powers.
Controlling is for controllers while...er...well, something or other is for defenders, but I'm not quite sure what it is.
What I think is funny is that blasters have better control than defenders now.

Unfortunately this is enough to make many melees hate us and want it nerfed. the whole "I looked at that defender and he didn't die, please nerf him" craze. Granted anyone with a mezz can beat a storm defender, anyone with range can overcome hurricane and if a melee has buffs from their teamates (or learns to jump with a toggle dropping attack) they can overcome hurricane. So how is it overpowerful again?

Because it's not idiot proof, and 99% of the world's population are idiots. The percentage seems to look a wee bit better considering this game alone, though, so not all is lost.

Actually, the original quote was something along the lines or "we'll try not to."
Melee and Range are differentiated in terms of damage, and attack type, but the statements above that there is no 'melee range' is accurate.
Anyone but me feel that there are hints and inuendos to a nerf towards hurricane on the horizon? I've had this feeling for a while, and this post by castle: Linky made me feel that way again. Any thoughts?
