Coyote a.k.a. Matthew Bragg.

"In the tutorial, "Outbreak", one of the contacts for new players is named Coyote a.k.a. Matthew Bragg. This character is named after the first pre-beta City of Heroes message board member, Kiyotee. Kiyotee, who was named Matthew Bregg in real life, was always the one to help out new people on the message boards. He died shortly after the game was released, and the contact was renamed in his honor."
I got this from http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0451018/
is this true? If so, it's something that I'd never heard of. How "soon after the game was released" was it. That contact has always been coyote AFAIK. I started week 3, so was it before that, or was I just that unobservant back then?
[/ QUOTE ]
You were unobservant. The contact used to be some detective, and was changed in issue 3 or 4 (I forget which).

I remember there being just another cop there, though I forget his name. I'm not sure when Coyote came along, but he wasn't there when I subscribed (day #2).
There was another cop guy there, like the first two contacts. For some reason, I want to say Coyote was added with i2 or there abouts.

Yes, it is all true. But what that entry is doing in a Movie/Actor Database, I'll never understand.

Video games are commonly listed in the IMDB, and it's updated sort of like a wiki. That is, users can submit information about any given entry.
And that's why it's in a movie/actor database.

Yea, a lot of actors have done voice work for video games.
Of course, the only voices in CoX are taunts and grunts.

I wonder - as I do about all the NPC heroes - what are his powers?

If I recall correctly from early beta, Kiyotee was a martial arts scrapper. But my recollection might be wrong.

Yes, however the consequence of listing video games means that videogames get listed. While that sounds circular, it isn't. Since games with voice acting are listed (such as KOTOR), games without voice acting tend to get listed too (such as City of Heroes). The cause and effect isn't confusing.

I'm going to have to go with I2 as well. I joined during I2 (the last few weeks of it, at least), and I remember thinking on my first character that this game was so awesome because they had an actual hero (albeit NPC) in Outbreak giving me missions.
Of course, memory can play funny tricks.

Which has nothing to do with CoH as a production unit. Cryptic doesn't promote or feature known talent-actors doing any voice-over work in that game, nor was that Player ever a known actor in the business. Hence the confusion as to why he's even listed there in the first place. Is he now to be given production-credit because his Forum Avatar and Board-name were suddenly lifted and modeled over an NPC, posthumously?
But as stated earlier, Viewers can influence actual entries made into that particular Database, so things like this, well-intentioned as it was... can slip by.

He isn't given a production credit -- he's just named in a blurb in the "Trivia" section. The only credits given are NCSoft and Cryptic.
Would it be inappropriate to ask how Matthew Bragg died? I'm just curious as to who the man behind Coyote was.

I am Matthew's brother. The man behind Coyote was one of the most kind and helpful people I have ever known. He spent his life working to make things better for others, whether it was on the forums, in the game, as part of the SCA, or just with friends and co-workers. He was a funny, crazy, guy that never failed to give people a laugh when they needed it most. He made quite an impression on people in the forums and in the game.
One of the reasons that I got into this game and continue to pay for 3 subscriptions, is the fact that they care enough about the community that they put my brother in the game that he loved so much.
I hope maybe that gives you some idea of who he is, although I apologize if I am threadjacking, or getting too sappy/maudlin. There should still be posts in the forums about him. I know I have read them all.

I remember Kiyotee from the forums and CoH Beta. He was a cool guy and the times we played together were pretty fun. I think he was in a group with me and Statesman during beta when States was playing one of his beta characters. We didn't know it was him till it was almost server shutdown time and he answered a few questions for us.
I'm Sorry to hear of Kiyotee's passing and I'm glad that the CoH people thought well enough to put him in there. I had wondered for a while if it was named after the guy I knew from the forums, guess now I know...
The best part (in my opinion) about Cryptic putting Coyote in Outbreak, the didn't make an announcement. The players asked for him to be added and he was. Cryptic didn't milk it for publicity, they just put him in.
That says more to me about the ideals of this company than anything else.
I wish I had been here for Beta/beginnning of the game (I joined a little after I1, IIRC) just so I could've had the chance to at least see Kiyote. I remember when Coyote was put in Outbreak.. but I really had no idea why until CoV Beta - I just thought the Devs decided to put an actual hero in there. But on the Beta boards, there was quite a lot of discussion about Kiyote and I finally figured it out.
From a listeners point of view, Kiyote seemed like the kind of guy that would be over in the Technical Issues forum helping people along, and in Atlas making sure all the lowbies got around okay. To me he sounded like the perfect guy to help you through the Tutorial.
I'm pretty much restating what Adar said, but without ever knowing Kiyote, only hearing of him. He's definetly someone I wish I could've gotten to meet.
