New Comic Series: My Opinion... What's Yours?

DeathSentry,

I am not going to flame or incite arguement I am going to offer you a suggestion to provoke thought.

If racial identity, sexual orientation, religion goes as far as stop enjoyment in entertainment - is it healthy?

How many of the 3 Stooges were Cherokees? I am Cherokee so should I not enjoy classic humor and entertainment because none of them were?

I watch and thoroughly enjoy Westerns (even tho' they villify my ancestors) because they are a slice of life from a bygone simple time.

In the early 1970's a Chief alive as a boy in Geronimo's time said this - "All of nature is about competition and selection. We fought to take and hold our lands from other tribes. The Europeans coming to America did nothing new and nothing outside of Human nature or natural selection. The strong survive, the loser in history is forced to adapt."

This is incredible insight from a man that saw everything in his life change. We all love to hold the present without change - look at how upset we get to the game changes.

However change is the only constant in life.

I would say if your enjoyment of entertainment has been reduced because you can't see past the sex, color, religion or sexuality of the characters to the actual story being told - you have to question your own need to change.

Put this in its place as entertainment not social comment.

Thanks for bringing a note of moderation to what has become, as it always does, and extremely immoderate topic. Your tone gives me hope, but one thing you said made me sad:

[ QUOTE ]
We're getting along much better, but we still tend to feel excluded from activities if none of our own people seem to be part of the action.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't even have the heart to say why. If I put in in print, it would look as hokey as a Cap. America monologue. Or like I was trying to be MLK, Jr. and coming off as a cheap imitator. But it has to do with the phrase "our own people".

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, guy, as much as America is a melting pot (and we're really strong because of it) we cannot deny our own ethnicity---we should celebrate our similarities and differences. I, for one, would be extremely sad to have never had Asian cuisine or Southwestern American cuisine. Being different people, recognizing that and liking that is fantastic---we just need to appreciate other folks/cultures, etc. For me, I find different People interesting, not in the least threatening or 'exclusive'.

But hey, that's just me

Manticore...guys. If you truly listen to us. Please, at least for a partial episode, bring back Apex.

Our last vison of Apex is standing in Atlas Park, all alone, shouting, "Level 15 scrapper, looking for group!" It's kinda a sad way to end it for him.
Sure it might reflect how alot of us have lost good friends in the game and have had to continue on without them, but I'm sure there's people out there who'd like to see that he's doing alive and well.

'If Champions Online is what "CoH was supposed to be", I'm glad that I have what I have rather than "what it was supposed to be".' - The Alt oholic
"I solo'd Hamidon...but I also totally cheated." - Back Alley Brawler
"It is still early. Someone is going to get stabbed tonight I can feel it." - Ishmael (said in Jello Shooters chat)

I agree! I rather miss the old team.

Neat. Will we ever see the Vindicators in action? (at least I think that's the name of the sk group)

Terrible, and here's why:

It's City of Backstory (or is it Futurestory). It's not City of Heroes.

I want a comic that has the flavor of the game. I enjoyed the BK run tremendously. By the end of the second Image comic, I was horrified, Manticore's actions were bordering on Chaotic Evl - not heroic.

Give us back the city of heroes with the random guest stars. Drop this junk back in the trash can.

yea, i must admit, Apex really grew on me as well. i would love to see him come back and help out in fashion, or atleast cameo apperences. the last part of the story arc Blue King really did well inmy opinion. i actually felt something towards those characters. man, it would be awesome to see Apex back somehow.

So did he become a sword user at the end of the series, or was that just a good luck charm?

But yeah, an Apex cameo would be pretty cool. Maybe in some of the Back Alley Brawler issues, since they seem to have met eachother a few times before.

I love the new comics. It's great to get to know members of the Freedom Phalanx. And so what if they don't all have squeaky clean personalities? Flawed characters are far more interesting, in my opinion.

The old comic completely bored me. Occasionally I would skim it, but I never really read a full issue since I gave the first one a try. With the new comic, I actually look forward to getting it each month, and read it from beginning to end as soon as I do.

The new comic gets a big thumbs up from me.

Forget a comic book appearance - make Apex the trainer in Croatoa. For that matter, considering the mystical nature of the place, War Witch would be perfect for a zone TF.

Could be an accolade.

I figure he re-rolled himself as a broadsword scrapper to use War-Witch's sword. Hence the "Level 15 Scrapper looking for team!". In the comic Apex musta been a higher level to fight all of those AV's.

On a different note, thanks to Manticore for acknowledging this thread and everyone's opinion. I really believe that the Dev's in this game are trying to make the whole CoH experience as good as it can be & 1 indicator of that is their communication with the players.

I still want to know what the heck the Vahzilok Mortificator was using on Statesman. Because I sure as heck haven't seen anything like it from them in-game.

Exactly. We must adhere to and appreciate only they who Are Like Us. We must not ever be entertained by they who Are Not Like Us.

The new comic is night and day better over the previous version. The story actually interested me and the writing was very good. Congrats on the rebirth of the CoH comic.

He deserves to be a Freedom Phlanx Reservist, IMO. That's a good way to keep him around.

AND BRING BACK WARWITCH!

Still here, even after all this time!

That sword he has is whats left of War Witches Flame sword, remember how she said of all her power all that is left is this iron sword (Or something like that). Which makes it all the sadder, it was in memory of her that he became a Broadsword scrapper.

Issue #3 will end this arc. In Issue #4 Troy Hickman (of Common Grounds fame) will be telling a more classic super-team story. Starting in Issue #7 Dan Jurgens will write a story-arc that features the Back Alley Brawler as the main character. It will also introduce an upcoming gameplay feature.

It's too bad that I haven't received Issue #2 yet...only Issue #1.

And I got that after Issue #2 was released.

No luv for Cronniss, I guess.

I like it

I just miss warwitch. She was the best in the last run.

So far I do think it's been rushed, but only to get the ball rolling. Besides that I've liked it. Issue 2 did leave me feeling like that was 10 pages of a story that should have filled 30. But alas We shall see how it goes.

Agree 100%

I like the old series better. So far, I don't like the new one at all. I stopped reading the second issue halfway through. It just couldn't keep my interest.

Wow.. I have ADD and I had no problem reading the whole thing.

You, sir, have some major issues. Maybe you should go see a doctor?

[/ QUOTE ]

ROFLMAO sorry, but that just made me laugh.

Have issues due to not being interested in a comic. LOL

I'm still not entirely sure what game the new series is based on. It doesn't look or feel like CoH at all, other than a few character names.
