I'll pop in here so you guys have a new target.
The original Task Force Datamine took 3 months to finish. That was to go over 2 months worth of data.
We now have 18 months worth of data. We looked for a more effecient solution, but our estimates still come out at 2 years to datamine and get you your badges.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok.
I can understand why you won't datamine for TF Badges when this much time is required.
Now, this has probably been requested before, but with how many posts there are, I honestly don't feel like searching thru them all to find it...so with that in mind...
What about those who have compelted the Calvin Scott TF? This one is no longer around, but there was no badge for it. Will there be a badge added for this TF, and if so how would those who completed it receive it? Thru datamining or would we simply /petition to have it added. (I know that we are not supposed to /petition for TF Badges, a la Shadow Shard, but this is different as it is no longer around.) -

And the link that someone had posted for EBGames for the pre-order "collector's edition" was like $80. Is that right? WTH is with that price tag?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because theres more stuff? Like every other Collector's Edition that has come out in the past year?
The extra stuff in the Collector's Edition will at least include 7 CoH/CoV HeroClix figurines. It's up to you to decide whether that is incentive to buy the Collector's Edition. It is not required.
[/ QUOTE ]
Clintonian....normally your info is spot on, however on EBGames' website, they don't say anything about HeroClix figures.
Here is what they have -
<ul type="square">[*]Bonus disc will ship the week of 8/15/05 via First Class mail at no extra charge.[*] Beta Access to City of Villains (start date to be finalized)[*] Two-day head-start Play City of Villains before it ships to the public![*] An exclusive In-game crab spider Battle Helmet[*] Limited Edition Lord Recluse vs. Statesman City of Villains poster[*] A 14 Day FREE TRIAL for the City of Heroes game for the purchaser of the pre-order AND a friend[*] Bonus CD-ROM includes videos, art, wallpapers, screenshots, Rogue Isles map, the City of Heroes comic book and more!
Also, it is $79.99 + tax. And to top it off, that is $79.99 + tax up front - NOT $5 or $10 and then $5 or $10 off when the game is released.
Now, walking into the store may be different; however, when purchasing online you pay the full amount at once.
The link was provided in this thread previously (I think), but for some reason I cannot find it. So that (any of) you may find it easily here it is.
If there were 7 CoH/CoV Hero Clix figures in the package, I could see an $80 fee. But there is no mention of that. And $80 for 1 helmet that can only be used by 1 gender which is touted as being exclusive but EVERYONE will have access to (this is verified by a red name, no less), a poster (big whoop), a 2 day head start and an unknown Beta entry date is not justifiable for that price tag (IMO). Either EBGames does not have all the included items listed (which is what may be going on, since the "regular" edition has the exact same content info) or someone hasn't disclosed what the "Collector's Edition" consists of.
Until information is disseminated, I am going to buck against it.
P.S. - I'm at work and I don't have the ability to run Flash. This means I can't see info on the CoV website because in whoever's ultimate wisdom they didn't make the website html / user-friendly. So I can't go there to verify any info.If someone can contradict the above with info from the CoV website, I'd appreciate it.

[ QUOTE ]
Regarding the other issues you've raised in this thread regarding the genders of the helmets and associated issues... although there will be a period of exclusivity for these items, we do plan to make them available to our community eventually. So if you can't get your hands on a particular costume piece right now, we will announce at a later date how you can acquire all the helmets.
Have a great weekend!

So....then....why bother with a pre-order (other than to start, what, 2 days earlier)?

Child you can easily recall what mezs you and using your blast powers take it out before you get mezzed. You don't need to use breakfrees unless facing boss type mobs or a lot of mezzers in the same place.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would have to disagree with you.
I am going to take a prime example to show you why I disagree with you - the Rikti.
Get 1 Lt (mezzer) in a mission (when soloing), and you can be held indeffinately if you don't have any Break Frees (which happens in Rikti missions, 'cause you end up using them all). In one of my 1st missions against the Rikti, I got the 1st badge for being mez'd M& held - and I didn't even have 10% of the bar filled before then.
With my Blaster's snipe with Aim & Build Up and insps I couldn't 1-shot him. And that's all you really get, 1 shot. If you miss or don't knockback/hold (good luck on that with Fire & Electricity), you're probably gonna be mez'd.
So saying that you can easily take a mezzer before being mez'd is not exactly true.
[ QUOTE ]
Most mezzes post 30 only last a few seconds.
[/ QUOTE ]
While you may be right with this statement, chain-mezzing doesn't help. A mez may only last for, at most, 30 seconds; but when you get one on top of another in succession, you're probably not going to come out the door you came into the mission with.

If you really want to make Defiance workable, add status resistance to it once your health goes red. That way we might actually get to USE it every now and then, since in the 40+ game a hurt Blaster is generally a held or stunned Blaster. Who cares how much damage you do if getting hit even once means auto-debt because every attack has status effects that last longer than your life bar?
Okay, that's a slight exaggeration, but not by much vs some enemies. Having magnitude 4 or so status protection while below 25% health would be a FAR more useful form of Defiance than extra damage. At least then we might be able to wake up and run away before dying!
[/ QUOTE ]
I completely agree. Well...almost.
I would suggest that the status resistance start when the health bar begins to turn yellow and then scale upward as it gets lower & red. By the time the status resistance hits red, the Blaster is either dead or it's too late for them to do anything of consequence (except, of course, in extremely rare circumstances).
Edit: fixed quoting box - at work, had to rush...sorry. -

Issue #3 will end this arc. In Issue #4 Troy Hickman (of Common Grounds fame) will be telling a more classic super-team story. Starting in Issue #7 Dan Jurgens will write a story-arc that features the Back Alley Brawler as the main character. It will also introduce an upcoming gameplay feature.

One of the things which is truly challenging to the judeo-christian mindset to grasp about the ancient Greeks was that they did not really believe in good and evil as absolute values as we do.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is a complete load of codswallop. I've read a sufficient amount of Victorian-era antiquarian classicisists' work to know quite certainly that those very "judeo-christian" scholars had no problem at all with such concepts. You are merely projecting your own narrow prejudices regarding those who happen to be either "Judeo" or "Christian".
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe that The Monocle was speaking in regards to "the masses"...and not the scholars. Scholars are educated people, they would understand such differences between societies & cultures. "The masses" may not.
Having grown up in a parochial school, thus fed interpretations of various religions from over the centuries as well as the Catholic dogma, I can tell you from experience that unless "the masses" take it upon themselves to understand such things, they won't. And unfortunately...most in "the masses" don't. Those that do....well, they are no longer part of "the masses," now are they?
Unless they have taken it upon themselves to learn these differences, if you were to ask one of "the masses" that have a Judeo or Christian mindset what they thought of the Ancient Greeks...you will probably get an answer close to "they were misguided for being Pagans (believing in multiple dieties)." And if you were then to ask those same people what they thought of Pagans...more than likely they would say that Pagans were evil. I've seen this first-hand in many different parts of our own country (The U.S.) - which is supposed to be the most understanding and tolerant of countries. In fact, have you even listened to our own "enlightened President" when he speaks on religion? There's one for "the masses" for you.
But I digress...and have gone off on a tangent here. Please, continue the discourse on wether Statesmand IS Zeus, and Incarnate of Zeus...or simply an Avatar of Zeus. (Yes...there is a difference.) -
There are a couple of things that I wanted to comment on.
I know no one else has pointed this out, which is why I am.Zeus's father is Cronos (or Kronos, depending on your spelling). It was not Chronos.
As it was pointed out, Cronos / Kronos / Saturn was a Titan and father to the Olympians. What was not pointed out was that while Cronos was the "master of the univers," life in general prospered under him. The lands were bountiful with food and animals. Mankind wanted for nothing, and because of this killing and murder were ideas unknown to man at the time. (From what I understand, man didn't even kill animals at this time, but could actually talk to them.)
When Zeus came along and overthrew his father, the world (and universe) was thrown into chaos. Lands dried up; man became desperate as what was once bountiful became barren. And then man learned to kill animals to feed themselves (which is why man can no longer communicate with animals), and they learned greed and pettiness which taught them murder.
Now, as for Chronos. Depending on what myths you wish to follow, Chronos was a magician, demon, demi-god, and/or deity. But no matter what you called him, his title was Lord of Time. Without Chronos, Time would not flow steadily forward for man as it does. Time would be in chaos, moving forward and backward at a whim...if not having all in Time existing simultaneously at once.
Now, on to the original point of the discussion. While I do think that most of CoH does follow the Greek Pathos/Mythology, there are similarities with other pantheons. Such as (the aforementioned) Nordic/Viking mythology.
Odin, who bychance can also cast lightning bolts, was the All Father of the Nordic Gods. Some say he supposedly walks Midgard (Earth) in the guise of man since Ragnarok occurred, learning from man what his mistakes were.
Also, Thor was known as the defender of the Earth and Heavens (Midgard & Asgard). And lighting was one of his instruments of warfare (along with his hammer), which he also had control of (along with thunder).
I am not saying that Statesman is descended from / avatar or incarnate of either Odin of Thor, but there are similarities. Of course, these parallels are found between the different mythos themselves. Go figure.
(BTW - if this post seems a bit incoherant...I've been reading this thread over the last 6-7 hours at work. I may have lost a bit of my train of thought over the time...hehe. Please be forgiving. ) -
OK - it's been like YEARS since I've had to write a batch file or do DOS commands (I used to be really good at it, too). So I need a little help with an alteration I'd like to make to this batch file....if it is possible. (I'm beginning to think it's not - I've looked thru my reference manuals and can't find an answer.)
What I'd like to do is change the sleep 1 command so that instead of going thru the file and each line every second, I'd like it to step thru it sequentially. Meaning - I'd like the batch file to go to the next line after every keypress instead of after every second.
I have like 40 battlecries on 1 character. The problem with the timed version of this batch file is that I have really good timing - I keep getting the same battlecry like 3 times in a row...or 3 or 4 times every other battlecry. I don't want it to repeat anything in the list until it has actually gone thru the list.
Anyone think this is possible? A stepped version of the batch file instead of the timed one? -

You can't enhance the bonus Hasten gives. Recharge enhancements placed in Hasten only serve to improve Hasten's own recharge time.
The reason many 6 slot Hasten is to have it up all the time, without any other powers that buff recharge time you need 6 even level SO Recharge to have Hasten perma (recharging as soon as or slightly before Hasten runs out).

So, here is what I was going to post -
[ QUOTE ]
Blasters are listed as the damage kings yet their damage is capped BELOW that of scrappers. Why?
The max damage of a Blaster is 400%...a Scrapper is 500%. We did this because the Scrapper is involved in melee and thus in a riskier situation far more often. Blasters, on the other hand, can pick and choose their targets from a distance.
[/ QUOTE ]
Statesman, I can understand that Scrappers get involved in melee, so they (supposedly) have more risk than Blasters. However, isn't that why they have defenses and higher hit points than Blasters?
You say that Blasters "can pick & choose their targets from a distance." While this may be true, Range is not the defense that you make it out to be. If a minion's general attack has a longer range than my Snipe, where's the defense that range is supposed to give? This is why Blasters have no defense and little in the way of hit points.
But if Scrappers can out damage Blasters and have the defenses to hold up against villains' attacks (in melee, no less), then, honestly, what is the use of the Blaster AT? What is it that Blasters are supposed to bring to a team when another AT can bring the same thing but only better?
From the way I understand the AT structure, every AT has something to offer to teams that other ATs can't.
- [*]Tanks can hold aggro and take massive amounts of damage.[*]Defenders can debuff the enemy & buff the team (as well as do damage - not as much as Blasters or Scrappers, but they can still do damage).[*]Controllers can hold and immobilize the enemy (as well as buff & debuff - not as good as a Defender, but they can do it).[*]Scrappers bring damage and the ability to survive the consequences of dishing out that damage.[*]Blasters bring.....uhm....Blasters bring.....uhm.....damage. Which is fine, there are other ATs that overlap....but apparently Scrappers will be able to out damage Blasters and Blasters have nothing to balance this out.
Yes, Blasters have their 1 defining, nuking power. However, if anything is left - we're toast. We don't have the ability to survive the instant aggro we just generated with that power.
Now some might say that this justifies the "squishiness" of Blasters - that this 1 power will out-damage anything else.
Ok, so Blasters have 1 power that justifies it. But is it balanced? Scrappers have many powers that they can use pretty much at any time to dish out damage AND survive. This 1 power for Blsaters is situational (at best), takes a long time to recharge so it can't be used all the time, and is not gauranteed to hit everything - or even anything.
Now, if you want Scrappers to be able to out-damage Blasters, fine - you are the developer, it is your game, and ultimately your decision. But can you tell me, please, what it is then that Blasters are supposed to bring to the team that is unique to them? I do not believe that ranged damage is it - as range is not a defense anymore and even then, easily half of our powers are melee-based (or close "ranged"). If our attacks are melee-based, how are we supposed to provide ranged damage? Every other AT has defense of some kind - ours is supposed to be range and the damage that we do; but if we are out-damaged by another AT and range is not the defense that it is supposed to be, what are we Blasters to do? (And yes, I can hear it now from some of the forum goers - "Play a Scrapper." Honestly, I've tried Scrappers - I don't like them. They're great ATs; I've seen many great players operate Scrappers. They're just not the AT for me.) -
Thanks for the FAQ. I will deffinately use it when I go to make my Khelds.
I have a question, tho. The recharge times listed at the end....listed are times for SOs, HOs, and SOs/HOs + Hasten. Is the Hasten 0-slotted (no enhancement at all), 1-slotted, or 6-slotted? (I don't know the #'s on Hasten, which is why I ask.) -
[ QUOTE ]
Sounds to me that you want to be able to go anywhere, and have the speed of SS or TP.
Be glad it gets you from point A. to point B, even more safely then others.
With just SS, you're going to have a hell of a time getting around sky, faultline, even parts of Hollows, and 1000 others.
So let Fly be slower then the others. It shouldn't be as fast, because you can do that much more with it.
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem with Fly, FeiSerumen, is not that it IS the slowest, OR the most costly, OR that there is an Accuracy debuff with it.
The problem with Fly is that it IS the slowest, AND the most costly, AND that there is an Accuracy debuff with it.
If the devs were to drop just one of those negatives from the power, I am sure that most users of Fly would stop complaining about it. -
