I used DB/inv, which isn't anywhere near what I'd consider optimal for that kind of stuff, but it's my favorite character. I think if I could pick any scrapper powerset combo to do it, I'd go with a DM/SR with extreme recharge - fighting with Elude up and being able to only carry sturdies and respites.
It's funny... my original logic that got me playing /SR was that every time I ran into trouble in this game, a purple insperation (or 4) was the solution. And now, as they're throwing more challenges at us, even on my /SR toon, I'm still saying the same thing... pop a purple, and the red numbers stop showing up over my head. I haven't worked the build out to my satisfaction, but I may end up taking elude for the first time to help address the upcoming challenges.
  3. The quick calc on tohit chance is that you'd lose 5%... 5% of 225 DPS is 12.5DPS... It's actually more then that for claws because some of those misses could be on follow-up, which reduces the +damage on other attacks (one approximation of this could be to add a .95 multiplier to the +damage you add for follow up stacking).

Regarding the other clicks... if you think of time lost in DPS-ing ... over a 9 minute fight, if your other clicks add up to just 25 seconds (3 aid selfs is 12 seconds), thats another 4.6% reduction (10.3DPS) not counting unstacking of follow-up accross the delay.

I guess what I'm saying is that with your assumptions, 225 DPS on paper gives around 200 DPS real world.... sounds like your calculations are pretty good.
  4. No... i think a good argument can be made for all the pools being valuable to someone, and none being particularly valuable to all. I tend to look to the power pools to add survivability, and so fighting is (and always was) the hands down candiate for 2nd choice after fitness.. but that's me... I'm not everyone... I never use travel powers anymore while others I see prefer to have two or more. I don't think there's a universal desired pool one must have by level 20 anymore like fitness at all now.

that said... if the dev's want to make all power pools inherenet so we just slot them as needed, I would not object... much.

Yeah.. didn't see the OP before it was edited, so maybe this doesn't match what he said... but as I understand the streakbreaker, i believe a power can miss 11 times in a row if you use another power between uses that hits.

Granted, the point is moot because it didn't happen.

In any case... slot for accuracy in your powers... I hate missing... I always try to push the limits, and i'm always counting on that attack to do what it does... so when I miss, bad things happen.

I'm curious if how good our RNG is. Does it evenly distribute well? Or does it tend to be streaky? Is it only evenly destributed over an extremely large sample? Is it truely evenly distributed? It would be bad if it had a tendency to produce edge cases with higher frequency. Although when I say bad, it's really not bad... the game is not broken... i'm just curious.

A level 25 LotG 7.5%s cost 2 alignment merits each and if you craft it you can generally sell for 200 million. Even the most expensive purple recipes are less than 600 million each so selling 3 LotG 7.5%s will give you enough inf to buy a purple recipe and only costs 6 alignment merits instead of 20.
Yeah.. the only think I buy with A-Merits (and i earn them almost as fast as one can), is LoTGs or Miracle Uniques (both sell about the same). Or, if I want something at a lower then max level that's just not available on the market (most frequently for me that would also be a LoTG or Miacle unique come to think of it).

I think one exception to this may be the +3 Defense PvP IO.... that's selling off market for 3+ Billion. (in market you can bid 2 billion and then wait a month or 2...no thanks). I'll consider earning merits for that next time I want one. Mainly because I trust off-market trading and at that price it's about as cost effective as buying/selling LoTGs anyway.

Also, 200 million is being optimistic (he did say "generally")... They bounce around from 150-200. If you list for 200, it may not sell.
  7. You'd definatly have to turn off XP... and it'd take some homework redside because a lot of content is unlockable, and you won't find it unless you know how to unlock it (who's going to just accidently drag 10 ghosts into a traps and kill them?)
  8. Just to clerify, if the tank is taunting and attacking, nothing is going to pull agro of the tank. However, some tanks think they don't need taunt, or don't need to use it. Running a MoKahn with a tank who isn't taunting taunt would be rolling the dice to begin with.

That said, you probably should have waited until someone said go, or until others were going if you were unsure.

This brings up a good point. When you're a vigilante you may not be running vigilante tips (could be hero tips, vigilante tips, or villian tips). So technically what you're asking for may not really be what you really wanted to broadcast anyway.

Interesting trick though with $side. Are you sure as a vigialante it's hero, and not related to which side you're actually in at the moment, which could be the red side? That would make more sense to me.

    Lady Grey Pylons

I've run the LGTF probably 50-100 times. Until this weekend I'd never heard of doing the Mito's first, which we did. Both ways seem pretty much the same to me. Some people seemed to think all the rikti were helping a lot on hami, but I didn't notice any difference.

To be honest, I'm really happy with him and his build. He can solo Rikti at Plus 1 Plus 8 with no real difficulty. In other game content, he's always been able to do what I wanted him to do at a level where I have fun with him.

I generally only use inventions that I get in drops ... it's one of my quirks. So other than basic IOs, the only thing he has special on his build is a Steadfast KB Protection IO.

He's currently sitting on 831 million. In his inventory he has 1 Apocalypse Dam/End/Recharge, 1 Armageddon Dam/End Reduction, 1 Ragnarok Dam, and 1 Ragnarok Dam/Recharge/Accuracy.

With that kind of cash, I'm thinking that maybe there's something I can do to make him even better than he is.

Here's the thing: I have NO idea what I should be aiming for!

Like I said, I like his build. Other than moving some slots around, I don't really want to change what he is.

So that's my question. What CAN I do to make him better? What can I make better on him without sacrificing any of his existing damage or damage resistance?
Quick comment... the influence cap is 2 billion, so it's ok to go over 1 billion influence if you weren't aware of that.

Without a little more information it's hard to give more detail. But here's a general priority I place on IO'ing out a new toon:

    1. Get endurance under control. The big hitters here are a Miracle Unique (healing IO), a Numina's Unique (also in the healilng IOs). And a Performance shifter proc (endurance mod IOs). 99% of the time I'd place those in health and stamina.

    2. Purple damage proc's for my most used attacks. These can get pricy, but they make a pretty big difference without having to revamp an entire build.

    3. Recharge... these come from LoTG proc's in defense powers and 5-slotted purple sets. There's other sources, but they're pretty specific to each different build. How much is enough depends on what attack chain you want to be able to run and other variables about your playstyle. This can be some serious money invested (2 billion can disappear fast).

    4. Defense... in your case I'd try to get my smashing/lethal defense up as much as possible. The best starting point for doing that will be from getting 4 kinetic combats in each melee attack. Plus the steadfast protection +3 defense IO. Adding more depends on what powers you have. I'd pick up defense pool powers to augment these as much as your endurance allows.

Generally, I have all my IO's planned and purchased before hitting 50, so I don't really go in that order, but if I were to go in order, that's what i'd do. I can see putting defense before recharge, but I'm a damage junkie... it's likely others would say different.

In order to plan things out you'll want Mid's Hero Designer if you don't have it already.

Sounds like you're really enjoying the game... warning, once you start down the path of IO'ing out your toons, you'll find something vast and deliously complex... more so then you'll find in any other MMO i've ever seen. If you have any questions, this is the right place to ask. It's the primarly reason a lot of us are here.
  12. My latest project is MA/Fire. Only level 26 right so far. I'm finding the sets endurance intensive and lagging just a bit on survivability then what I usually run in this level range, but fun both on teams and solo. I feel kind of like a blaster, in that I can't jump into spawns yet, but if some else draws agro, I can run in and play clean-up.

My plan for the endgame is a high recharge build for extreme ST DPS while having lower then benchmark solo scrapper survivability (a hole easily filled by an insperation or a teamate).

I think you're correct that this isn't a very common combination, although since both sets were buffed about a year ago, they are more common then they used to be.

    Does it count...

It counts. Unfortunately, as everyone gets more powerful, soloing an even con AV is not as attention getting as it used to be.

Nonetheless, it is a proud milestone in a toon's development, IMHO.
  14. Passive scaling resists aren't something you rely on for survival... they're more something that keeps you alive while you kill off those final 2-3 badguys with only a sliver of health left.

If you're fighting a hard target, to guarentee survival, the proper strategy is to keep your health bar topped off.

I sometimes skip the Maelstrom mission just because I hate chained objectives.

The missions I love are the stealthy ones:
Shattered Jar of Flesh (stealth to two bosses)
Some Nut on Talk Radio (stealth to a boss, plus one glowie)
Doc Quantum's Moral Quandary (stealth to hostage, plus an ambush)
Blatantly Fake Malta Plans (stealth to hostage, plus an ambush)
A Biting Wind (stealth to a hostage, plus one glowie)
Scrawled Bark (stealth to room with boss and 4 hostages)

My question is, does anyone do the "One Good Spider" hero morality mission instead of "The Usual Suspect"? I can do "The Usual Suspect" in less than 5 minutes. The other one takes me 30 at least.
I'm in the same boat here although I don't generally skip missions, I just don't like them. But I really like the tip mission system as a fitting risk vs reward for players who like to max out their toons and play solo. Generally, the more solid your build is, the faster you can run these missions and get a valuable reward. However, missions that are just arbitrarily lengthened by mechanisms like timed ambushes, or having to wait for caltraps patches to go away before the hostage you rescued realizes they've been rescued, or bosses who spawn 6 pets and phase in and out are just annoyingly time consuming that can't be countered (much) with build strength.

In regards to "one good spider" vs "the usual suspect"... imho, the problem is that "the usual suspect" is too short... one good spider is the appropriate difficulty and time investment for something as valuable as a hero merit. I'd like to see the rest of the alignment missions brought up to that level.

I'm sorry... I gotta call ** on that one. I play on freedom, that's a high population server, and have never see stalkers avoided when a scrapper would be accepted.

I completely agree that stalkers are underpowered. I completely agree that they should be buffed. But I completely disagree that it's prevented them from getting team invites. Yeah, people look for support classes and tank classes, then just fill with damage or whatever, so stalkers are less wanted then others. But scrappers and blasters have that same issue.
  19. It's Villians and Rogues. You can't do it as a Vigilante.
  20. My keyboard does this. I play on a laptop, so I can't swap out the keyboard. My solution... I just don't jump turn right and move forward at the same time.
  21. Every scrapper built with only his secondary powers without pool powers and invention sets to aid in survival and having no outside buffs will die repeatedly from this encounter as well. However, every scrapper, given enough money and attention can also be built to tank Reichsman, too.

Regen by itself most certainly feels squishy because you're literly getting hit with all the incoming damage, and then healing after the fact. But you can do things to fix that problem.

Now, all that said... if you're wanting a toon that really shines at the final fight of the Kahn TF. Yeah, you don't have the best toon for that. But that's just 1 fight.

But seriously, how was I supposed to know this? Is it written anywhere in the dialog?

After the team wipe we reentered, and just obliterated all the ambushes on our way back to the final room and took down Reichmann.

Im sure Im not the only one who just assumed a power was supposed to drop into my tray during the previous mission, and just didnt. How was I suppsed to know that the stalker power is initiated in this way? Why is this SF so much different from the TF version? Who lamebrained idea was this??

IMO, this SF needs redone, before they ever make it the WST again.
Really, rather then have the temp powers awarded by class, change the mechanism to make sure all the powers get distributed to the team regardless of AT. That's more consistant with the standards the rest of the game is made to.

I agree that communication is really the bigger problem. The way TF's work in this game, there's no clear explination to the people on the team that they'e supposed to be doing something other then the normal "kill next objective". I've been the defender on the BSF that was supposed to get the temp power to stop the phasing, but nobody told me, so I just commenced my buffing/debuffing and killing. Some people were saying "use your temps" but that could mean pull out a shivan, or a few dozen other things without a clear explination. Nothing told me "the defender has to go stand in the machine and get a temp power that nobody else on the team will get or this won't be successful." Eventually I figured it out, but it took quite a bit of time and frustration.

I think with the new TF's they're adding some narration dialogue that helps a lot. But they really need to go back and add some clerity to the old TFs and SFs to explain what's going on and why.

In my opinion, the BSF is one of the better TF's in the game for content and challenge. I like how instead of giving arbitrary mission objectives, it actually gives you powers you can use to improve your fighting ability for defeating the final objective. What it lacks is communication to the full team (I've never led, so I don't know if the leader sees a good explination of the intended strategy or not), and obviously the reward needs to be adjusted upward.

    Fire/Spine Build

If you're going for smashing/lethal it's better to 2-slot rectified reticle in a +tohit power then to use 6 slots for the whole guassian's set.

I see that done on a lot of builds.
  24. Keep in mind when looking at accuracy, you get a nice tohit buff from blinding feignt and you're talking about double or triple stacking it... plus abaiting strike does a defense debuff on your target. Both those attacks require a hit check to begin to function, so it doesn't help you on that first hit against a high defensed target, but once you land a few hits you're gold... you can usually (not always) select a non-defended target to get your buffs going at the beginning of a fight.

Also, I didn't notice anyone mention hitpoints. When building for survivability on a /SR scrapper, I'd recommend getting as many hp as possible as the 2nd best thing next important thing after being soft capped on defense. My DB/SR has 1937hp. I wouldn't say he NEVER dies... but I do a lot of really stupid stuff frequently on that toon and it works out quite well.
