  1. I finally got my first ever level 50 scrapper.

Titanothere is my TW/Inv scrapper and I have to say I have really enjoyed getting him there - which is strange because as some of you may have noted I'm not really a melee player. He's only my third ever melee toon to get to the max and he's already gotten much further ahead than one.

One of the odd things about him is the fact he's TW. I don't even know why I bought the set, it was a moment of whim but I have to say I've really enjoyed it. It's rapidly becoming one of my favourite sets in the game but it does need a giant cricket bat weapon please (looking at you Noble Savage! ) But credit to the Devs for something that hooked me from the start, against all my expectations.

Now I just want tob e able to play TW and Trick Arrow on the same toon

Thanks to everyone for advice and guidance and also to the chaps on Defiant who've helped him get there
  2. QR: You've had a lot of response and I've not been able to read (m)any of them so apologies if I repeat -

You can get what you need from Merits, A Merits, to a lesser extent Tickets (generally better for salvage IMO) and drops when just playing the game. Playing at higher difficulty tends to improve the quality of drops in my experience but that's not a guarantee.

Also the Auction House - that's probably where you'll get most of what you want - use the previous methods to get the stuff you really need.

If I can give two pieces of advice they would be: Don't stress about it, and don't be afraid to make a mess of things. As you've already admitted Inventions are not absolutes and if you want to partly build a character or frankenslot, then those are perfectly ok options. I also have a number of characters that make liberal use of Hami-Os, SOs, and Sets. Whatever works for you is the important thing - and unless you plan on sharing your build for public critique, who cares what you do?

Some general rules I apply when using IO sets - these are guides I break them whenever I feel the need, but may be of use to you

    • Slot for whatever you think will work for your character. Don't worry about caps, soft caps, dutch caps, cricket caps or any other form of head gear unless it's important to you. If you want a high defence uber build, fine but they are not necessary for most of the game unless you're trying to solo the real tough stuff.
    • I generally slot lvl 40 IO sets, because I often exemplar down and IOs stop working three levels below their stated level and so if you slot 50s, you may find some content you like where the bonuses don't work. Level 40 IOs are just about the same as 50SOs to you'll notice no significant difference in performance at 50 and still have some extra bonuses.
    • Slot to patch your weak areas rather than to build on your strengths. You've gotten to 50 (I've never made a full IO build before 50, I'm guessing you'll be doing the same) and know what you're good at. Fix your build rather than make yourself Godlike. If Endurance use if a problem you can cover that very simply with a few good end mod sets for example.
    • The popular sets can cost a fortune, but if you choose the unpopular sets, you'll still get a usable bonus and spend a lot less than many who are only marginally better.
    • Try getting to grips with Mids. It may take you a while but it is almost certainly one of the best player developed tools out there and it will help you design your builds. It took me a long time to get into it, but my own experience it's now rather fun to make variant builds and fine tune.
    • You don't need to take your character "off line" when you do this. It's fine to do it piecemeal - much of it will depend on your own patience. If only partially slotted you can still play is the point. The converse of that is to focus on one primary character - but be aware of what your others may need - if you get a good drop that your toon cannot use, make sure you don't sell it before checking out if others can
    • Base Storage is really useful
    • Have fun and go at your own pace.

    TPN massive fail

Compared to Minds of Mayhem, which is unpleasantness wrapped in misery which I'm pretty sure I've never even successfully completed. I can't imagine preferring that suckfest to TPN.

TPN is relatively easy, but easy =/= quality - but once on a league which is well guided, it's not difficult.

However, it is unimaginative and got some nasty cheat mechanics - well you probably know my opinion on some of it but in terms of story it's pretty dreadful and comes way down in terms of quality compared to some of the other trials.

Thanks for some good info Zombie...

I've not heard of those other /commands so to confirm I'm thinking in the right direction - if I get a toon set up with everything the way I want it and then do /wdwsave /chatsave /bindsave and /optionsave then every subsequent toon I make only needs me to repeat with the relevant /xyzload to get them all configured the way I like?
  6. I'm a bit of an altaholic, but I've noticed that when I create a new toon, I've got to do a lot of configuration of the UK and other stuff like groups etc.

I use the /wdwload command but I find that I still have to leave a whole bunch of groups that I was in once but am not in any longer - and I also then have to go into Options and address keymapping issues etc - despite having saved those options previously.

Is there any way to get around this and have a common UI, keymapping and groups when making a new character? As things stand it's a bit of a pain in the wossname!

  8. I get both sides of the argument - I can see the OP's point but not sure I agree.

As it is structured now, we get to vote on detail.

If the Devs had offered us a choice of three complete packs to choose from, we'd be far more limited. Imagine a really great suit, but crappy helmet, average gun and meh backpack - but on another you get a crappy body and great accessories?

Can't please everyone always but this way at least we get to express our preference and please more than most
  9. We've rather been caught up in the notion that as we progress through the Incarnate arc, as the Who Will Die arc reaches its terminus, that the player is the master of his or her own destiny.

Matt Miller's been quite clear on that - Freedom Phalanx are to assume far less of a role as our heroic mentors and take on a much more secondary role as we supercede them, and we become the heroes of the game.

That'll be a challenge to write I'm sure, but I'm interested in where it leaves Ghost Widow, Scirrocco, Black Scorpion and Mako... They've never been "mentors" as much as the Phalanx has. Never there to offer a chance to do grand deeds and make a name for yourself - until relatively late in your career when you choose one as a Patron if you're red-side.

See that's it... what happens when your Patron can't hold a candle to you, and you can do everything they can and more? Currently, as characters the four patrons are some of the more interesting n the game. To see them made redundant would be very sad because the whole structure of them is interesting.

I don't know how this is going to pan out but given how neglected redside tends to be, I'm concerned they may just get a cursory glossing over which would be incredibly sad IMO.
  10. I have a motorcycle in RL.

I want sky hooks so I can hang from the clouds and travel across the zones!
  11. C got my vote for being most retro - and I think others have observed that B is the bubble helmet or too similar too.
  12. these don't work so well for me. There's nothing leaping out there and saying "Must have" - they are the most "meh" of the options I've seen so far but I think A is my choice
  13. They are all really good. It's too tough to choose so I abstain... but I don't think they'll look right with DP... it will need a ray option for them.

    Exactly my thoughts too MrMoo

But I would also love ALL options - and although I have voted, I reserve the right to change my mind depending on how female options affect the overall look.

Should the scale change in Cimerora?

Are we talking American Miles, Roman Miles or the more correct English Miles or Miles Davis?
  18. Welcome to the game hope you're having fun.

One of the best "Rites of Passage" which is what I think you're looking for is going for the Atlas Medallion. That's an accolade that gives you a permanent 5% bonus to your Endurance - so worth having, and you get some shiny badges too.

To get it, you'll need some history badges, gained from checking out history plaques in Atlas, Perez, Kings Row and Echo of Galaxy (access via Ouroboros) and several exploration badges in those zones too.

You'll also need the Spelunker badge, which is gained by saving the fortune teller from the Circle of Thorns. If you've missed the contact, again available from Ouroboros.

Then you'll need to nobble 200 Warwolves and 200 Vampyri - your best bet for that is Striga Isle and I'd recommend going with a friend because that's a lvl 20+ zone. Again you get badges for those too.

All of those combine to give you the Received the Atlas Medallion accolade. It doesn't matter what order you approach it.

    Have a lot of fun

(oh and a slight disclaimer, I'm working from memory here so some zones/details may be incorrect but you can check exact requirements on Paragon Wiki)

I just didn't want it to be at the cost turning the Freedom Phalanx into incompetent horrible people unworthy of respect. I wanted it to be done by praising us, not dismantling them. It's the method of doing this that irks me.

Here's a little example. When Manticore and Liberty were arguing and she told him in no uncertain terms that if he doesn't leave, she WILL fight him, I was genuinely excited. I KNOW Miss Liberty can snap the guy in half with one hand. I've fought her, I know what she can do. Even in her worst moment, I can still respect her power. And even in her worst moment, I can still at least understand her conduct. Again, she comes off as the most reasonable of them all.

But Manticore screws up repeatedly, acts like a dick, then attacks his friends. I get the impression the only reason he didn't shoot an arrow at Liberty was because he knew he couldn't beat her, so he went to get backup. And the Statesman just leaves his friends hanging, to get picked off one by one.

I get that we were supposed to be put on an even level with the Freedom Phalanx, put above them, even. But we didn't have to reduce them to... To THIS to do it. That's like certain comic book writers repeatedly trying to "bring Superman down," to make him more of a jerk, make him kill people and so forth, because he's too good and too pure and not interesting enough.

The Freedom Phalanx used to be the benchmark, the best of the best, the veteran heroes who've already saved the world many times over, the people we aspire to be like. They used to be the people that, when we finally got to be on their level and fight alongside or against them, it really felt like we were finally playing in the big leagues. Now... Now the Freedom Phalanx is not a lot better than the Shining Stars.

We should be elevated above them not have them reduced in stature to below us.

I totally agree with your points here and the writing's been taking a tumble for a while now. To be fair, it's often tougher to meet our expectations than to churn out what we've gotten thus far, but there doesn't seem to be much effort put into a lot of it. It's production-line stuff, churned out to address the Content issue, without the Quality being considered - which is rather surprising in that the rest of the game seems to be getting distinct and high quality upgrades.

It seems to me, somebody's coming up with an idea for a story, and throwing it out there and it's not being challenged until it gets to us - there's an apparent and obviously distinct lack of editorial control.

Yes, that gets annoying. I'm not sure they can get around it right now, though, given those ARE being put out by admins. (On the other hand, I don't recall the Manticore/Psyche wedding being in Admin Red once they got past the scripted part.)

in fairness last night it was Virtue. Don't see too much on Exalted.

I don't actually think there's a huge issue with this. I'd much rather be kept informed of Dev run events than not. At least it shows they are interacting with the players

    Comic Relief

    QR -

    some suggestions:

    • A cricket bat for melee sets - broadsword, TW and WM.
    • various vegetables for the above: celery, cucumber, a bunch of roses etc...
    • a pistol with the flag that comes out of the barrel and says "Bang"
    • Pinnochio's nose: As your HP reduces your nose gets longer.
(Would also work as you complete alternate alignment side switching)
    • Bunch of flowers emote: Give a friend a bunch of flowers and a giant carnivorous plant suddenly leaps out of it and eats them
    • Surreal Self-Destruct: A rework of the Self Destruct power from the science(?) booster. Activating this power causes you to drink a cup of tea, at which point you start to melt and turn into a puddle of goo. Whilst this happens, any opponents in your immediate vicinity turn into spinning clocks and cannot be affected for a few seconds.
  23. Maybe a simplified version of the lock. Once your account has run the arc, it becomes a global unlock or something?

Well my suggestion is specifically about O2 boost. Saying "X needs more than" is not especially relevant. Of course you're welcome to disagree with me but that's not what you've done at this point, you've said "it's not as bad as..."

So other sets may have worse heals. Then put a suggestion up for them yourself.

I'm simply saying that when other sets that do have heals and buffs that are far more effective. As many of the buffs are now designed to fit a league, O2 boost is shown to be lacking. It's practically impossible to use it on every member of a league because it's duration's so low.

Effectively, as it stands it's probably worth taking to level 50 and then respeccing out of once you've got to the Incarnate stuff - and as a team buff it does have some value so it seems a shame.

We're not talking anything game changing here - just a bit of a tweak and some love for a power that offers something for many team-mates, especially squishies.
