Configuring UI on New Characters

I'm a bit of an altaholic, but I've noticed that when I create a new toon, I've got to do a lot of configuration of the UK and other stuff like groups etc.

I use the /wdwload command but I find that I still have to leave a whole bunch of groups that I was in once but am not in any longer - and I also then have to go into Options and address keymapping issues etc - despite having saved those options previously.

Is there any way to get around this and have a common UI, keymapping and groups when making a new character? As things stand it's a bit of a pain in the wossname!

I'll chime in to say that the third tier of power tray key commands has never saved for me.

You know how pressing 1 brings up power 1 in tray 1, pressing alt-1 brings up power 1 in tray 2, and pressing cntrl-1 brings up power 1 in tray 3? The cntrl-1 (through 0) commands have never saved to my profile. I can set them up and save them, but a new character loading the profile doesn't seem to retain the cntrl-x commands.

Same new toon frustration here. My regular routine is to load my keybind file ( copy-paste into chat window ) then with keybinds loaded use them to load an already saved set of window and window/window border colors, chat and option settings. Then all that is usually left to do is some minor positioning of some of the windows that will not save position using the slash command like the vault window and base storage.

/wdwload only tracks the placement of windows. You also need /chatload and /bindload and /optionload.

Thanks for some good info Zombie...

I've not heard of those other /commands so to confirm I'm thinking in the right direction - if I get a toon set up with everything the way I want it and then do /wdwsave /chatsave /bindsave and /optionsave then every subsequent toon I make only needs me to repeat with the relevant /xyzload to get them all configured the way I like?

This is correct. I do this for every new character and never have to change everything once the files are loaded. One thing to always remember is that when you leave a global channel, it doesn't update those saved files. If you then start another character and load your files, you'll join that global channel again.

Or you can load them from the options menu...is the first thing I do: load options, load window, load chat (I could load keybinds too but I never remember to save a "default" set)

Actually, after using the 4 save commands, any new toon will have those loaded by default. However pre-existing toons can be updated to the same configuration with those commands.

Ah makes sense that's what I want! Thankyou

Doesn't work that way (quite) for me, for some reason, but I just have to run the window and chat load.

If you use the buttons at the bottom of the general tab in Options, do be aware that the Options ones are reversed on placement compared to the other two - I've accidentally saved over defaults that way X.X

If you make binds for /wdwload, /chatload, and /optionload, you will only need /bindload. At least I think that's how it works, I should go check.

....no. /bindload loads your binds from a file on your harddrive. You would still have to hit whatever bind you make for wdw/chat/option load.
