Calling the next Travel Power
I'd kill for a cherry red motorcycle (or several different colors/styles) for my Fortunata, who has had a motorcycle leather and leather coat costume since I17, and is something of a bike enthusiast in her back story. Admittedly, they would need to do more than one type of motorcycle (Upright seat, aerodynamic sport bike, etc.)
I'd never use a nuke in a superhero universe. You nuke a city, you kill 1.5 million people minus one. The last guy not only gets superpowers from the explosion, but ones that let him survive a nuke...and wow, is he torqued off

I'd like a chopper....
But, i don't think the next will be a motorcycle tho.
I noticed the hints in a few Dev made articles about the Magic Carpet, but right now.. i did not see any hints.
I have a feeling that the rocketpack will be one... i know it is a temp power already. Just redesigned for the Si-Fi pack that they are working on.

Now that they have the tech to do animal transformation travel powers, my money is on exploiting (and I mean the word in a good way here) that tech to release more things to transform into before developing more travel powers that use new or different tech.
We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)
As long as said new powers, motorcycle or not, doesn't turn off all your toggles I'm down. If it does, I pass.

If they did add motorcycles, or almost any other type of vehicle, it would be really wonky compared to normal travel powers. Mark my words: they would never consider adding something like this without first developing tech to remove your ability to strafe, to add a colossal amount of inertia, and to cap turning rate at a very low value. Oh, and it wouldn't be able to jump, either. Why do I say this? Because otherwise it would look really stupid, and I don't believe the devs are going to add something inherently stupid looking to the game, much less spend loads of art and animation time doing so.
So, to recap, it would basically be very bad as a travel power. Even if they figured all of that out, imagine riding the bike up the walkways in the Vanguard base. Picture riding the bike through Mother Mayhem's mind. Consider riding the bike through any area with water in it. It might be funny the first time but before the first day of beta testing was done, people would be saying "It's great, but can you make it look less stupid?"

That said, if they made a power that transformed you into some kind of Firebird/Phoenix and mimicked the stats of Rocket Board or Magic Carpet, I'd be all over that in an instant.
@Roderick
Pogo Stick.
It. Must. HAPPEN.
I was doing some playthroughs of City of Heroes. Now they will serve as memories of a better time ...
First another transformation travel power: Hawk or Seagull or Eagle Flight
Then Tunnelling, combining ground movement with "invisibility".
Then Mist Form or cloud of insects or bat swarm (Flight) combining slower flight with intangibility
Then the first vehicle: an All-Terrain Transport - that doesn't fly.
American Dawg, Starblaze, Neanderthal Joe, Shining Dawn, Tokamak Dragon, Stinger Incarnate, Burning Tyger, Dover Tornado, Big Roach, Dark Paladin, Archmage Wylde, Kings Row Hornet, Prancing Deer
Avogadro, Science Lord
Edgar Nightcraft, Doc Cicada, Chupa Macabre, Dr Forchtenstein, Blood Shrew
I'd like a new travel power I don't have to pay for, to be honest. I'm not about to buy the Coyote/Rocket Board because I can get the same thing in-game for free without the transformation/extra model.
My guides:Dark Melee/Dark Armor/Soul Mastery, Illusion Control/Kinetics/Primal Forces Mastery, Electric Armor
"Dark Armor is a complete waste as a tanking set."
There's a Lioness in Beast Mastery, and we have a Coyote transform travel now, so it's inevitable that we'll see a cat transform power at some point. Tiger or Cheetah maybe? It'll be a fun day in Virtue Pocket D...
Note to devs: I'm normally not interested in vanity pets in the market, but I would gladly spend 500 points on a Bear cub pet if it helped justify Beast Mastery getting a bear model for its T8.

Why? Clockwork 01 explained why here.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...3&postcount=63
It requires the modification of every animation currently existing in the game to work with these movement modes.
Furthermore, it requires every new animation created in the game going forward to be created with these additional movement modes in mind, increasing the number of animations needed for every new power set, emote, etc. This is not a simple request, it is an exponential increase in time and work for every new animation that is put into the game. |
So I wouldn't expect to be able to use any powers on any new travel power.
I agree that we probably won't ever see a motorcycle. Strafing and jumping just wouldn't work.
I want a swingling travel power.
But I just cant take more travel or temporal powers.
We got just too many powers, alignment powers, temporal, day job, pool, epics, inherent.
I hope they can come up with something UI wise soon!
I think the only way we'll ever see 'motorcycles' in game would be if they were converted into Rocket-Cycles ala Lobo. Thereby eliminating the problem with strafing and terrain etc.

A popular fantasy MMO has motorcycles that can be engineered by players and used to ride around on. When you strafe, it just quick-pivots and drives in that direction. IIRC Walk already does something similar when you walk backwards.
Their motorcycles can also jump, some kind of spring loaded contraption. It looks fairly silly, and that's with a much shorter jump height than we have. I would vote for a -100% jump height debuff, similar to when you get hit by a web grenade and break out of the immobilize, but still can't jump.
Still, driving a motorcycle around in a sewer, or in City Hall or an office building does sound a bit ridiculous.
For jumping you could simply add some "rocket boost" animation.

Personally I'm not oppossed to vehicles in game. I own the Rocket Board and the Carpet even though I don't use them past level 8 much unless concept calls for it.
The fact is though, that those 'vehicles' being air based makes them much easier to institue in game and less of a clutter in the zones.
Having a land based vehicle, even if it can hop and pivot, would still be a 'concept only' type power that in the end would be maligned due to it's de toggling everything and being so difficult to navigate with.
The flip side of that is they make such a wonderful new vehicle that everyone and their sister rushes out a buys it. Can you imagine the traffic jam when everyone pulls into Mrs Liberty after a sewer run eager to show off their customized ride?
While they may be thematically correct for the genre, I still don't think land based vehicles fit into this game world. Not without a major overhaul first.
Just my opinion, and I've had that opinion changed over the years by the Dev's... *Shrug*

In the case of jetpacks I'd much prefer to see them added as costume pieces like wings rather than individual powers. They finally gave us an backpack option in the costume creator with animated backpack options so some jetpacks shouldn't be too big a problem.

Also, with the rocketboard, coyote etc. they could easily supress all powers instead of de-toggling, making them more desireable. They seem to be ignoring that possiblity altogether. I really can't understand why.
I would buy a Motorcycle power in a heartbeat, without jump (or with limited jump). A rocketbike would be just as cool, and I'd buy that too, but not if I had to sacrifice the regular Motorcycle. Vanity powers like this do have a certain 'style over substance' in their desirability.
More importantly, I want skins that I can choose from. My namesake being a werewolf, what is in my opinion the two coolest recent additions to the game (canine pet and transformation travel power) are too limited for the price they offer them at. I understand why, but I just can't afford something I have no interest in using on any character, and have purchased neither. This same limitation chafes me with Masterminds too. Even if I can't color co-ordinate to match me, at least let me have, or unlock, other skins to use on my summons. However, that's a long post I've made before and is reserved for another topic.
It surprises me, that in a game that flaunts and promotes its customization, they're now pushing out specific non-customizable things.
Worse, from what I've seen so far, I worry we'll be seeing a White Wolf Transformation power (for 800 pts.) and then somewhere down the road a Black Wolf Transformation power (for another 800 pts.) etc, etc.
And I'm not sure which is worse, that they'll do just that, or that they won't and jilt the folks who want nothing but that one perfect power they'd pay for, but miss out because they have so many others already they don't think it'd be profitable to do it. (I wouldn't mind a brown wolf, but before that they already have a white, grey, and black wolf model to promote... individually if they keep the same business model... I doubt I'll ever see it... how about a fox? I do have a Kitsune.) In a perfect world, the overall color could be based off a character's primary 'top' color. At least then we'd have some choice. As it is, we have to hope they pick the color we want, and even then, did we break and waste points on something else because we didn't expect it?
For example, what if they came out with a black and white Rocket Sled Tuesday for the same cost as the red and white and it did the same thing... would you feel cheated, or would you buy it too? How about a few weeks later when they introduce the blue and white version?
I can even almost overlook the qualitative difference between the rocket board and the carpet, but it's really just the same thing with different art and animation (which is why I can almost forgive it and gave in bought both). I love this game, I love the Dev's... but I'm just sayin'.
"I play characters. I have to have a very strong visual appearance, backstory, name, etc. to get involved with a character, otherwise I simply won't play it very long. I'm not an RPer by any stretch of the imagination, but character concept is very important for me."- Back Alley Brawler
I couldn't agree more.
Just calling it now. We've had rocket Boards, Carpets and now I'm just predicting, Motorcycles. We once believed vehicles in missions couldn't work, yea we've been proven wrong.
