My current favorite is 5 pieces of Sting of the Manticore (everything BUT the proc) and the dam/int/rech piece from Extreme Measures. I am taking them in the 30s though, so I get the set bonus when exemplaring down to mid-level content; if that's over the ED cap for damage at level 50 (I haven't looked), you might want to use the Acc/Rech from Calibrated Accuracy for the last piece instead (so as to get recharge, mainly). The snipe is one of the few powers I don't feel needs ED-capped recharge, since it's pretty unusual to want to spam it.

Quote:Holy nail-on-the-head, Batman! Few things are as irksome as being deep in the middle of a respec and hearing the sound effect for a /tell go off. You're not just missing chat, you're now missing something personal directed at you. Is it important? Who knows? In the respec window, it's an exceptionally bad thing because you have to back out through how-ever many steps you're into the process by pounding the 'back' button over and over again to get back to a chat window if you suddenly find it necessary.
I have grumblingly backed out of respecs several times to find out what a /tell boop was about. It's even worse if it turns out to be something inane, like an influence-begging stranger. Grrrr. -
Quote:The way DB combos are in two tiers really seems to call out for a second build for low-level exemplaring. I plan to make one for mine. It won't cost a lot of influence because I won't be buying tons of sets, just frankenslotting low-level crud. Another advantage this plan offers is the ability to overslot the early powers (like six-slotting Hasten with DOs) in ways that would be a waste due to ED once you're using the more powerful enhancements. The upper-level powers that you'll never be able to use when exemplared can be pillaged for the slots to do this. Then again, you might also consider an alternate build for that purpose, which is something I find myself considering from time to time. Right now I'm just happy with one all-around build that does a lot of stuff well, and I don't have to spend any more time or INF making another "ex only" build.

I'd rather slot a power as good as Shield Charge for enhancement percentages instead of slipping a low-percentage proc in there.

While I understand the sentiment, there are limits to how much control you can exert over teammates. If you jump in first to grab aggro and find that two Blasters shot before you reached the enemy, absorbing the alpha in return and dying, and three other teammates ran in different directions and are each now training separate crowds back to the team, far exceeding your aggro cap, you could well be the last one standing, but is it your fault?

I doubt it's really "rumors," but there's always been wishful thinking on this topic.

Hey guys, it's interesting, but I'm not sure the Devs are going to appreciate posting the game code itself in a public forum. Maybe something in the forum rules or the TOS agreement has something to say about it, I'm too lazy to go hunting though.

To quote Shakespeare (Henry V), "I have but with a cursorary eye... o'erglanced the article." But I did notice you recommend Consume early because of the long wait for Stamina...that seems to be pre-inherent-Stamina reasoning and might bear re-writing.

Quote:Generally, writing up a little invitation and sending it out in several global channels succeeds for me. Occasionally, I don't get enough bites, especially when there's a new event out or something, but usually I do.Your best bet is to join some global channels. About every server has a global channel dedicated to forming TFs. Just check the server forums here for stickied threads that list global channels and I'm sure you'll find one that'll help you out.
I go to the wiki, especially here, and look up what I need to know, then make a message like this:
"Forming Synapse Task Force, level 15+, starts in Skyway. Rewards 58 merits plus credit toward the accolade! Takes 2 to 2.5 hours, sometimes faster. Send a tell if interested!"
A few points of interest: the upper level range (Synapse is 15-20) doesn't really matter, as everyone will exemplar down. But you have to be 15 to play. The wiki doesn't list a time, as that's highly variable; I usually assume that it'll take an hour or so for every 30 merits it's worth, but you can eventually form your own opinion if you run them enough. Synapse can tend toward the long side, since you have fewer powers available; especially if you get inexperienced players. Lastly, ask for a tell. You don't want people replying in broadcast because you will be hopping channels to spam this invitation (and perhaps hopping zones and broadcasting it in the clear) and you'll miss people who broadcast a reply, especially if it takes them a minute to decide.
If that's not working, pull up the find players option and set it to look for players with their "looking for missions, looking for task forces, looking for all" marker set, and send the same message as a tell to them.
This works pretty well. Remember to reply with a thank you to people who send a tell, even if they're declining; they may well take you up on it next time, and it's polite to acknowledge their response to your spam, so don't burn any bridges. -
Quote:Concur. I like them all, actually, and have a soft spot for SR...but when you say:Yep. I know it's obvious and not clever, but Shield Defense, just like you said.
Quote:Good ST Damage (you can't be MA without accepting a role as a ST guy, so this is given)
Reasonable AoE Damage (doesn't have to be the best (its MA), but not meh-make-you-sigh-at-your-damage damage)
Pre IO Set Decked out survivability (Some soloing, self sufficient on teams)
Post IO Set Decked out def capping/etc (Would hate to actually get to that point be hard to cap) -
Not a complain, just wondering. I seldom play redside, but I figure I should play more with some redside ATs. I've had a concept for a spines scrapper floating around in the back of my mind for a while, and since the character is basically a monster, it occurred to me that a Brute version might be a fitting AT and a nice change of pace.
You can tell I'm less familiar with redside ATs, because I didn't even realize Spines doesn't exist for Brutes. Oh well, it's definitely a spines-only concept.
Is there any known reason for this? Perhaps that the -recharge debuff secondary effect in the spine venom would slow Fury generation (which as I understand it was a big factor in not porting Ice to Brutes)? -
Quote:+33%. That's quite...huge. But ya gotta follow EC immediately, as it expires very fast.As to MA specifically:
Eagles Claw now procs a very short duration critical hit %% buff. Basically if you queue up another attack while EC is going thru its animation, that next attack's crit chance is increased. I don't recall the exact bonus off hand
Quote:Cobra Strike and Crippling Axe Kick both got retooled to be primary attacks
Note that Eagle's Claw doesn't just set up the big crit bonus; it still does good damage and has a higher crit chance of its own. The only complaint people have about it is the animation (time and/or how it looks). A lot of times now I find myself using EC to set up the crit bonus, only to find EC outright kills the target without needing the follow-up attack. -
Quote:Roger that! Originally people tended to stay on one server just so friends could find each other. There was no global friends list to see your friends on another server. You aren't constrained to only one server, just so you know.
With the advent of IOs and a cash economy, that tendency was actually reinforced...although the market itself was cross-server, and a toon on Guardian could buy an IO from a toon on Liberty, that IO was now stuck on Guardian and that money on Liberty unless/until put back into the market again. Therefore all my money, for example, piled up on Guardian...giving me strong incentive to make new toons there, where the money was.
Now that e-mail lets you send things across to your own account anywhere that habit can be freely broken -- I can earn money on my 50s on Guardian and e-mail it, or enhancements, to a young character anywhere. Coupled with global channels and the global friends list, this is the golden age of trying out new servers and meeting new people!
Quote:We have run an all scrapper ITF. There is nothing more fun than 8 melee damage DPS psychos going apestuff on a bunch of Romans. Our tactics were slightly more complex, though -- "KILL THEM ALL (and bring a tray of wakies)!!!!"
Word. In fact, I got a tell from a random stranger last night, helped him or her out...found ourselves running together for a while...had a few laughs...wound up with a new entry on my friends list! -
Quote:Comparing sets as similar as Katana and Broadsword is just splitting heads. No, neither one is a poor man's anything.
It's more like comparing a Ferrari to a Pro Street drag car. Yes, both of them are fast cars, but the drag car is more raw power, where the Ferrari is more finesse. And neither one of them is cheap.
Hairs! I meant hairs. -
Well, I was beginning to wonder, as all my characters seem to be able to slot endurance reduction in the default slot now and still hit the lovely pale blue number.

Quote:You don't base your analysis of every power set on random PUG idiots misusing them, do you? Most Archery characters I've seen don't even use any power besides RoA in teams! They might kill some random runners with their other attacks, but it's as if all their other powers are suddenly obsolete.
Just because they don't use the rest of the set doesn't mean it's a bad set, ya know. -
Yeah, but that's not what he said. He said it was a "tight" build because he took Stamina. But since he was already getting more endurance than other people successfully used Dual Blades with, I was questioning why MAKE the build tight by forcing in Stamina. I mean, you can already function at full speed all the time with the weaker power, Stamina, and Willpower has a better one.

Quote:We've shared our conflicting opinions on these sets before, but I'd like to point to a few specifics in you assessment.Invulnerability is overrated. It gives a lot of S/L resist, but hardly any resistance to other types of damage. It is also good for getting to the soft cap easily, but lacks worthwhile defense debuff resistance to back it up. Basically, if you start fighting things that debuff defenses AND do a non-physical damage (Clockwork in the new TFs), you will be hurting. Also, Invulnerability has no built-in protection against psionic damage and limited toxic protection (Apex has nasty toxic damage in one part). The healing component (Dull Pain) of Invulnerability is very low on HP/s, which is why it needs to be paired with DM.
Positional defense sets (Shield and SR) are protected against all damage types. There are only a few attacks in the game that ignore defense completely and they are easy to avoid, and/or are not a threat. Willpower and Regen can mitigate any damage type as well, through healing. They do require significant investment to increase defense though.

For the record, Rikti don't give me any trouble, although I can't say the same for multiple Carnie bosses.

Quote:Right, and there's a Vanguard door in Atlas Park. Ignore the doorman's asking to see you ID; it's a textual leftover from when the hazard zones were level-gated.I don't think new players get the PD porter. Vanguard has a tailor (facemaker surgeon I think...) in their base. You can edit costumes there too.
Welcome to the game, Malak. A surprising amount of things about a character can be changed or updated later; there are only four things that can't be changed, really. Those unchangeable things are Origin, Archetype, Primary Powerset, Secondary Powerset. -
Could it be because Ice Slick doesn't affect recharge, and many other slows do?
-
I'll acknowledge that if you want survival over damage output, DM/Inv is very potent.
But permit me to sing a song of sword and shield. -
Invulnerability is strong enough that it doesn't need mitigation from its secondary, making it a good candidate to pair with Fiery Melee. I also recommend that Tanker fans try Fiery Melee at least once.
That said, I tend to prefer pairing FM with Stone (talk about needing no mitigation help, and Stone desperately needs the better damage output of Fire) or with Fiery Aura, which brings additional PBAoE to the table (Blazing Aura, and Burn, baby, Burn!) and just goes crazy with the AoE.
Tried and true though it is, Super Strength makes a great pairing with Inv. The arguably most important powers in each set (Invincibility and Rage) stack up significant to-hit buffing, forming the fourth pillar of a mighty edifice: high defense, solid resistance, extreme accuracy, and almost constantly boosted damage.
