For those of us who have been loudly lamenting the recent lack of developer input here on the forums, from Melissa Bianco's latest interview with Massively:

Quote:
Also, we're going to be doing something called a Producer's Letter, a monthly forum post, so that players are kept in the loop on what we're working on.
I wonder which producer is going to be writing it?

Plus a few tidbits on I-20, including mention of a Booster pack we have been clamouring for? (Oh God, I hope it's Ouroboros stuff...)

Glad to see they're also already considering the 7th anniversary of the game, and are keeping an eye or three on the competition...

Emphasis mine, but this reinforces my belief that we're getting animal parts and/or running on all fours.

ETA: MentalMaden beat me too it in the I19.5 thread.

I do really like the idea of of that letter. But im worried that it might not be a long time until we get the rest of the Alpha slot.

Given the last major dissapointment in that field (Mutant Pack) I'm refusing to hold my breath on this one. It's more than likely a marketting spiel phrase.

If we DO get actual, honest to god non-shite Anthro parts, I will be overjoyed. But I also ain't holding out a ton of hope, sadly.

Issue 19.5 sounds pretty good.

Three questions are raised from that article's first question.

Quote:
Massively: DC Universe Online is the third traditional MMO to launch in the superhero genre after City of Heroes. How does the CoH team plan to compete with a new game with plenty of luster?
First: did anybody at Massively actually do anything with DCUO besides look at pretty screenshots?

Second: what's the third super-hero themed MMO that Massively is thinking of? Or is just poor wording on their part and City of Heroes is supposed to be the "third" game?

Third: why didn't Melissa call them on the gaffs and ask how she was supposed to take those questions seriously when Massively obviously didn't care.

Well re-read it, im even more worried. What if that booster pack IS the rest of the Alpha slot, are they moving to a micro payment system?

How do you know she did not? Do you have access to a complete and un-edited version of this interview?

They mean the third Superhero based MMO.

City of Heroes was the first, then the people who made City of heroes but sold the IP made a second game which is going free to play now (because it bled subscribers rather badly after launch and now has less than CoH does) and the other one you mentioned.

Not sure about the other two but it's probably because being rude to journalists is not a good way to get good publicity. Remember, the primary reason the devs give these sort of interviews is to try and get publicity for the game with people who don't play. Playing nice with the interviewers increases the chance of being asked to give more interviews.

4 legged characters/Fat characters/Huge Women/4 arms are all things that have been brought up since release many times and replied to by devs. They are unlikely to happen due to the Sheer amount of work involved both to implement and for future expansions. It would require reworking every single costume part (which is a crazy number) and for 4 legged every attack/reaction to damage/movement type. One of these is probably enough work for 2 expansions and would slow down anything after that.

Unless they come up with a completely new to make the costume designer work (so they Sexy Jay doesn't spend half his time tailoring each new costume piece for each character skeleton and size) I don't see things like this happening. Of course they have worked out things they thought were impossible before so what do I know? I just don't expect it.

More monster parts is definitely a good idea though. Personally I would like to be able to combine monter feet and other parts like pants too (for that poorly incognito look). My first 50 was a bug eyed alien and some nice arms and legs would have been fun.

Still not sure what a "Strike Pack" would be...

The first thing I know will be nip picking is "We've got seven years of content, lore, " my first words were so. The competition has what? 60 plus years of content/lore they can delve into, plus books, games, animated series etc. Overall like usual there was really nothing said that was not printed in other interviews, to me a let down.

Question tho this was brought up in the interview alot is I20, what could be so big in 20 that would knock our socks off? I get end game content that's good and all, but I the competition is offering interactive environments and no mitten hands, no travel suppression, faces that do not looked painted on.

Sorry if I seem cynical, I just want more and this game can do more, just needs the right push.

On the other hand, we DO have sort of 'galloping along on hands and feet' in the form of the Tuatha and now the Ghouls. Might this be enough of a breakthrough to allow PCs to do that?

The problem (I think) would be proportions. Good looking hands and feet running requires a different ratio of arm length to leg length than normal humans have. Note how the Tuatha have very long arms compared to a human. I haven't seen the ghouls do it enough to get a feel for them.

We already have had it confirmed by Noble Savage back when the wolf/fox tail was pulled from a future anthropomorphic booster and dropped into the mutant pack that a
furry/anthro/animal parts pack has been in the works. I think reference to animal parts in this thread is referring to that rather than new skeletons.

Additionally, ever since [ninja run] was released with the martial arts pack, many people have been asking for some sort of beastly sprint that included bounding on all fours. Considering how relatively seamlessly the severe posture of [ninja run] blends with existing animations, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that a four footed beastly run power could happen without needing new skeletons for animation.

Lastly, the strike pack is most likely the last two tiers for the alpha slot. All of which are already outlined on the Going Rogue page. Perhaps it was held back either to pace the more voracious players or to work out some final kinks with the "level shift" that the highest tiers offer amongst their bonuses.

It probably is. (The rest of the Alpha slot)

No. (Betting good money that they're not going to micros for Incarnate content)

I think you've missed what she meant by that statement. CoH has had 7 years to add to what they had at launch. DCUO wont be able to have as much content coded at launch even if they can draw inspiration from a larger source.

As someone who enjoys all of the Incarnate content released so far (the unlocking of the Alpha boost, and the new TFs) and someone who regularly buys the boosters/packs (only ones left are Wedding and Party), I have one thing to say; tying any content necessary for the advancement of a character to a micro-transaction would be incredibly stupid.

60 years of content in comic books does not trump 7 years of active MMO development. A month from now (or less) we're going to see the complaints of DCUO players that they've exhausted all the initial content. Same as what happened with CO.

Agreed, and I don't think they're going to do it. I don't think this Strike Pack is going to be the upper tiers of Alpha either, I think it will be more costumes and/or emotes, and possibly a gimmick power like previous item packs.
