    Since you already have Follow Up instead of Swipe you can just continue your progression from your current position, but IMO Follow Up is a bad substitue for Swipe and should be taken during the 30s. But since you're already through most of the low-level grind I'm not sure if respeccing or branching into your second build because of that is worth it now.

    You don't need Eviscerate or Shockwave, but it's very nice to have at least one of them. I prefer Shockwave as it has great utility value and hate the animation time of Eviscerate. Once you get to taste both, I recommend respeccing and droping those that you don't like.

    Btw, Hasten and slotting for recharge is the way to go for ElA, and Claws as well. Recharge benefits both your damage output (attacks), survivability (Energize) and recovery (Power Sink, Energize). The other slotting route, defense, is not good as the primary focus because ElA lacks any inherent defense powers.

    I'd drop something else for Grant Cover - Darkest Night for example.

    There is a way to cap def debuff res on a /SD brute; you need to have all the powers giving you def debuff res, and 3-slot Active Defense with Membrane Exposure hami-Os. The trick is that they enhance the DDR value of AD, and if you get it to doublestack you'll have DDR capped.

    It has 35% defense to S/L and 25% to other types. Those Kinetic Combats will cost you a fortune though.
  7. Any Reason you picked Stealth other than muling those LotG in it? I'd suggest changing Charged Brawl for Jacob's Ladder too, unless you hate cones. Grounded can be skipped by using -KB IOs (such as Zephyr in travel powers). Unless you really like Stealth, I suggest you swap it for the fighting pool including both Tough and Weave, that would help your survivability tremendously. Slotting advice: go for as much +recharge as possible, and then for some defense.

  9. Well theoretically yes OG would hinder your fury by disabling the minions, but just jump head first into the spawns and your fury should be taken care of after the alpha
  10. Sets giving typed defense:

    S/L - Kinetic Combat (4), Siphon Insight (5), 3.75%; Perfect Zinger (6), 3.13%; Mocking Beratement (4), Enfeebled Operation (4), 2.5%; Smashing Haymaker (4), Lethargic Repose (4), Triumphant Insult (3), Rectified Reticle (2), 1.88%; Reactive Armor (4), Curtail Speed (4), Annoyance (3), Discouraging Words (3), 1.25%;

    The only ones you can slot in any meaningful quantities (because of the powers you can slot them into, number of slots required and the maximum level they reach) are Kinetic Combat, Smashing Haymaker and Reactive Armor. Kinetic Combats are extremely expensive, the two others should be dirt cheap. But without 4-5 Kinetic Combats, you won't have good S/L defenses.

    E/N - Eradication (3), 3.13%; Thunderstrike (3), Basilisk's Gaze (2), 2.5%; Calibrated Accuracy (3), Lethargic Repose (3), Nightmare (3), 1.88%; Pulverizing Fistcuffs (3), Pounding Slugfest (3), Cleaving Blow (3), Reactive Armor (3), 1.25%;

    The only ones you can slot in any meaningful quantities are Eradication, Poudning Slugfest, Cleaving Blow and Reactive Armor. Eradication is not usually extremely expensive IIRC (it's just expensive), others should be dirt cheap. You can stuff in an odd Thunderstrike (cheap) or Basilisk (expensive) into your pool powers or if your primary has a ranged attack (claws). But unless you slot Eradication into your PBAoEs your E/N defense will be crap.

    F/C - Aegis (3), Mocking Beratement (5), 3.13%; Maelstrom's Fury (3), Blood Mandate (3), 1.88%; Exploit Weakness (3), Stagger (3), 1.25%;

    The only one you can slot in any meaningful quantity is Aegis, but it's competing with Reactive Armor for the same slots. They shouldn't be very expensive.


    There are also those IOs that primarily give positional defenses but also give typed defense at half value. They take 6 or sometimes 5 slots to get that bonus, and are mostly quite expensive. The only ones that are worth slotting for that purpose IMO are the Blessings of the Zephyr (2 or 3) but you kow how expensive those can get. You can also 6-slot Gaussian into Buildup or Focused Accuracy if you don't have anything better to spend the slots on for 1.25 defense to all types, but that's rarely worth it IMO and it's very expensive.
  11. I find this build quite haphazard. Lots of redundant frankenslotting when slotting for set bonuses would be better and no specific focus (a bit of +recovery, a bit of +HP, a bit of +damage but nothing is emphasized). And btw, Lightning Field by itself is completely useless for sapping endurance.

    I'd build this primarily for recharge because it increases both your damage output (attacks), endurance management (Power Sink and Energize) and survivability (Energize). After that, I'd get as much defense as possible, with a sprinkling of +HP where convenient. Like this:

    The build is geared for melee defense, but you can also balance all positions (the numbers will be less than on one position though). Don't worry about endurance usage, your Power Sink will be available less than each 20 seconds and Energize will be almost perma (although I prefer to use it primarily as a heal, and treat the end redux as a nice sideeffect).
  12. You picked the wrong sets to build for soft-cap. You can get the closest to it on WP, but I don't know how you could come even near on the other two. Here are some example builds where slotting for defense (melee, then ranged, or rather S/L and E/N in the case of WP which is better off with typed defenses) was the absolute priority:

    If you ask me, ElA and Regen are gimped if you build them that way. Both of those sets benefit much more from recharge (because all of their clickies), so that should be your primary goal while slotting them. After getting the most out of recharge, you should be able to get about 20% defense to all positions or about 30% to one of them and 10-15% to the others.

    WP on the other hand doesn't need to get to the softcap. It is ideally built this way, and given that you also have enormous regeneration 35% to S/L and E/N is quite enough.



    So if you want to reach the softcap, pick SR, SD or perhaps Invul (it can softcap S/L with one mob arround, and probably 1 more pair - ideally E/N - with 10 mobs arround). WP is also ideally suited to building for defense, but softcap is not needed there (I'm not even sure you can get there, even with gimping the toon). As for all the other secondaries - they are ideally suited to building for recharge.
  13. I'll second Claws/SR as an AV killing machine which is also great for AoE. Two other nice combos off the top of my head are fire/fire/blaze (huuuge damage if you build for recharge thanks to Build Up and Fiery Embrace) or BS/SD (wipe all the minions from a spawn with SC, finish the survivors with huge damage from Head Splitter and others).

    Main goal was ofcourse the soft cap to all positions, and I've added a nice combination of recharge and +hp. You can also spam Slash on tough targets to lower their resist thanks to the Achilles' proc in it.

  16. Your build lacks focus. It seems as if you slotted what seemed cool in the moment you were browsing the possible IOs for the power. I suggest you focus on typed defense (primarily S/L) and hitpoints, with a bit of recharge after that. WP is best suited to that kind of slotting.

    Regarding some specifics in your build: I wouldn't slot SL for heal as you have plenty of regen and could use the slots elsewhere. Dark Consumption should normally be slotted for EndMod but I suppose you have enough of that with QR, Stamina and PP. The full Gaussian's set is great if you're going for positional defense, but I usually don't use it for typed defense since 6 slots for 1.25 is a little too much for me.

    The biggest problem with your build is that you don't have an attack chain - Smite, SL and MG just aren't enough.

    The only power pick changes were dropping MoG for Shadow Punch. I also dropped the Miracle unique as I really don't see it as neccessary with all the other +recovery options. You should be able tu run Focused Accuracy with that too. The build can of course be tweaked further, by smaller or bigger changes, addition of purples etc.
  17. If you say you are a casual player with no interest in minmaxing, then you cannot go wrong with any powerset combination. The only thing that will matter is your satisfaction with your concept and "feel" of the powers. HwaRang's advice is sound (although I don't agree on some points), but such things really only get to you if you're interested in max performance and hardcore play.

    So if you like EM/ElA for concept, go for it. If you like it for its feel (at least what you can perceive of it during character creation), go for it. You're a brute, as a casual player you will have fun no matter what. Slight advice - you can check out how all of your attacks look in the character creator (power customization tab). So check them out, and if you don't have problems with the long animations of Energy Transfer and Total Focus (as opposed to the short ones of Barrage or Energy Punch), keep your EM/ElA.



    If you'll be playing with a Mind/Energy dom EM will suit you quite well. The dom will also have some of the same attacks as you do, so you can stack stuns on tough targets. Unless they already get disabled by the dom's primary powers

    It's extremely expensive because of all the purples, you could easily make a non-purple version that will have some 20-30% less global recharge.
  20. Personally, I wouldn't use WP for a farming brute. I'd use some of the sets that are more appropriate for recharge slotting, since you want max AoE damage output. FA, ElA and SR are such sets (and I'd peg ElA at the top because it has both a +20% recharge inherent and a damage aura). Although I imagine it would be easier to build a survivable farming brute on a low budget with WP than the recharge-savvy sets. Your killing speed won't be as high, but you'll manage until you get more inf.

    I actually got the Miracle during play on another toon so it isn't included in the cost. It was built long before Energize (where it had 4 Basilisks in Power Surge) so the current solution is quite temporary. I'm kinda lazy and he has absolutely no problems soloing +0/x8 so respeccing into a better build isn't a priority.

    Don't let my primary choice fool you, SS is definitively better for farming but Thunderquake wasn't planned as a farming toon at start, and now I use him primarily for TFs.

    Get Hasten near to perma. Then slot for defense, you should be able to get about 20% to all positions or about 30% to one.

    Recharge is more important because it hugely increases your damage output, as well as the frequency of key /ElA powers - Power Sink and Energize. You can't get near the softcap anyway, so trading recharge for max defense possible is a waste.

    Regarding endurance, Consume slotted like this along with the uniques and Claws' reduction will keep your blue bar full.

    No. You want both, and your endgame build goal should be permahasten. Can't do that without LR. Besides, both are just too good to pass up. Btw, LR cannot be slotted with anything useful.

    You have other powers to do more than enough damage. Even if you have no better use for that slot, you can put a Kinetic Crash +rech proc in there, it will be much more useful that way IMO.
