can any of you scrapper gurus help me out? this is what i came up with in mids. soft capped melee and ranged but falling a bit short on aoe.
is parry necessary with soft capped melee?

any advice is appreciated.

Moved some unnecessary slots around and removed Parry, but all three positions are softcapped. The Absoloute Amazement set is there for the bonuses. If you decide to remove it and place the slots in a better (in your opinion) power, I'd still recommend keeping it two slotted for the lovely recovery bonus. Oh, and if the additional Enzyme Exposure HO is out of your budget, replace it with an ordinary Defence IO.

Parry is not necessary... it depends also what you want for powers... do you eg. want to have some nice auxillary pools or not?

BlazingBlue had nice sugggestions, however, i would change some things in it... (dunno if its for better or worse )

Theres was astleast too much ranged def, since mids arent showing the 3.75% from phalanx fighting for ranged. My slight "improvements" below:

Err actually you could change the true grit slotting (apart from steadfast and miracle + rec) the opposite and gain a few hp more...

That on my suggested build above. Maybe more improvements too...
Also 2 slotted hasten, is that enuff for you or not? For me, some builds it is enuff and for some builds i would rather put in 3 slots.

But, yah...

Oh have to add, my "improvements" are also just my opinions, they might have some flaws and i might have misread/misunderstood something, if so, please do correct me and ofc your own opinions matter the most on your own builds!

There are a ton of ways you can build BS/SD, with parry, without parry, with Aid Self and without, with a hack for max def debuff resistance etc etc. I'll give you a fairly straightforward example build without Parry:

Main goal was ofcourse the soft cap to all positions, and I've added a nice combination of recharge and +hp. You can also spam Slash on tough targets to lower their resist thanks to the Achilles' proc in it.

couple questions about the suggested builds:
are any of these capable of soloing an av? ive heard that its possible with a bs/sd.
on the 4 slotting of performance shifter in stamina, it looks as if slotting that 4th one for the 2.5% recovery bonus actually gives less recovery than if i just used a lvl 50 io. am i wrong in this?

Any build can solo an AV, though some require more or less build confinement while others could cost little or large amounts of inf.

The fourth bonus on the Performance Shifter set is 2.5% recovery. That's likely as to why people have placed that there rather than an ordinary IO. In relation to this, the Performance Shifter +End proc provides .20 endurance/second (.20 chance / 10 seconds * 10 endurance = .20 endurance/second). Though, it's debated as to wether or not the amount is scaled with the maximum endurance.

Post your final build when it's done. I'll find a suitable ST attack chain (for AV's) for you then.

as Blue said, AV soloing with a(ny) scrapper is possible, still... you need to have a good attack chain and a possible way to counter the hp loss (with or without insps). The best (or best DPS) attack chain for BS is (stolen from BillZ thread, thx BillZ and others!) --> SCRAP BROADSWORD: Headsplitter/Hack/Disembowel/Hack

wont go into details why and whats the reason for that (the math makes my head hurt! ). Im sure you can calculate the needed recharge levels yourself or someone will point them for you (sry, im too lazy atm )

Do you want to use insps? If so, then aid self is not "needed", if not... well, then it kinda is, since the pure regen wont be sufficient enough to counter the AV dmg (or can it be??)

To run the Head Splitter > Hack > Disembowl > Hack attack chain, it would result in the OP gimping major aspects of his build to run it. Hoping Werner doesn't mind, this is from his spreadsheet:

Head Splitter = 172% recharge
Hack = 219% recharge
Disembowel = 77% recharge
0.132 gap
Hack = 279% recharge

Slice or Slash are usually involved in Broadsword/ chains that don't include Parry. Head Splitter >Slash > Disembowl > Hack > Slash and Head Splitter >Slice > Disembowl > Hack > Slice are rather ubiquitous now.

Yeah, you're likely right and that it's scaled by maximum endurance. I'll check it out for myself sometime, though.

I don't like +Damage set bonuses myself much ; I tend to view them as bonuses that I'll consider if there's nothing else going for it. I'd probably be more convenient with them on a FM/ or Spines/ Scrapper as the +Damage takes effect on DoT.
