spines/sr has been my spawn killing beast. You tare through whole spawns quick. and you can even kite a spawn with throw spines. and super reflexes is a very durable scrapper set. so much so that some of my tanks are jelous

Lillian Brick: lvl 50 stone/stone/pyre tank
Hybrid-knight: lvl 50 db/regen scrap
Vengful-Nature: lvl 50 spines/sr/bod scrap
Element-Wizard: lvl 50 fire/storm/stone troll
Claws/Super Reflexes, you are capable of 200+ dps and are extremely tough.

Dark/Shield Build Thread
No idea what type of brutes you've done...so, I'll make the suggestion of Elec/Shield/Blaze.
Shield will up Elec's lacking in Single Target damage, as will adding in Fire Blast into the single target. And have a really nice AOE potential.

I'll second Claws/SR as an AV killing machine which is also great for AoE. Two other nice combos off the top of my head are fire/fire/blaze (huuuge damage if you build for recharge thanks to Build Up and Fiery Embrace) or BS/SD (wipe all the minions from a spawn with SC, finish the survivors with huge damage from Head Splitter and others).
Take a look at Fire/shield/blaze as well. similar to elec/shield/blaze, but with much better single-target damage. looking at a build that has FSC up every 6 seconds for 310 dmg? with more from saturated AAO? yes please.

Crindon, I'd recommend Dual Blades/Elec.
Fun combo system, awesome AoE and ST, plenty of flexibility with what you're wanting to do with the build, damage aura, T9 looks cool (not that I'd recommend taking it 
), endurance isn't a problem, and it's simply fun overall! 
Just wanted to suggest this incase you're another that refuses to play a /Shield Scrapper.
I dont refuse to play a shield scrapper.. but I just dont like the way dual blades was done.. I mean it looks like you are just throwing your arms around and hoping you hit something..
Im just waiting til I find a dual blade scrapper with their arms and legs tied together..

i built mine for insane solo/group solo play(run off in my own direction while group tackles a different spot lol)
he can do avs and has done a couple pylons, but those got boring lol.
ive been trying to rework him a bit and get fire blast in a chain somehow lol...for some reason trowing fire with claws sounds cool...

It's taken me 43 50s to get one I prefer to play rather than levelling something else.
Why body ? Physical perfection fixes my end use, and energy torrent (which does KD not the KB the blaster version does) takes the force feedback +rech proc which helps recharging the TP attacks.
My build is not obscenely expensive ToD, sciroccos and obliterations mainly but relies on force feedback procs in thunderstrike and energy torrent rather than LotGs for recharge. Capped melee/AoE and about 37% ranged def.
I solo rapidly at +2x8 no bosses, and unless I hit mobs with heavy non positional psi or defence debuffs, can happily pseudo tank for a team. The usual trick is to move into melee to fuel AAO buildup, shield charge one group, lightning rod another killing all the minions in both groups. Then scrap the lieuts and bosses.

Why?
Because it's fun! May not be able to solo AVs for lack of damage but if you invest a good money on it, you can get mellee and ranged soft cap, with awesome /elec + tough resistance. (60% S/L, 40% Fire/Cold, 75% energy)
It also has a self heal every 40 seconds, which increases your regen to 400%, so after healing you are a pseudo /regen scrapper with defense cap and resistance for 30 seconds, not to mention that your end usage during 30 secs is reduced by half!!
And if isn't enough, you have an end drain power as well, a good Katana AoE and nasty fast animation single target damages, enough to run past +2/x8 easily.
Fun to play, expensive to build to reach the defense cap, but you can get the mellee cap easily with two stacks of Divine Avalanche, and what is more fun than being an electric ninja?! Lightning speed strikes!! You enemies will just see the blur as you swing your charged sword and wake up in the Zig!

ma/sr is so strong
I think scrappers are the only AT in this game that someone can say pick anything/anything and you will still have a kick *** toon.
I'll forth claws/sr. It is hella fun.
claws/elec sounds hella fun as well. Takin advantage of shockwaves knockback to let you regen from energize. Add physical perfection and health and maybe you could get a good resist/regen build goin.
Katana is awesome with divine avalanche.
Spines has range and aoe.
Martial arts for style.
Dark melee makes every secondary better.
dm/sr, kat/wp, elec/shield, dm/da, spines/inv, claws/rgn, kat/da, ma/sr,
Seriously, whichever powerset combo you decide will crush regardless.

I like Broadsword/Dark Armor. You can get to the softcap reasonably cheaply, and for the stuff that slips through you have 30% or better resistance to it, and when that isn't enough you have the best self heal in the game.
