  1. All on Freedom:

    Unique Snowflake, Cold/Ice Defender

    Aries Knight, Fire/Shield Scrapper

    Permaculture, Plant/Earth Dominator

Mental Construct, my old Mind/Kin troller that was waiting for Psi Melee to reuse the name

Edit: Forgot one, Professional Help, Ill/Rad/Psy troller.

    Body Piercing, Spines/WP scrapper

my latest toon, 1.21 Gigabot, Time/Elec Defender - what better use of a fluxcapacitor than to stick it in a robot? har.

Edit: Forgot one, Professional Help: Ill/Rad/Psy Controller.
  2. Bump! Everyone should know these things, keep us updated!
  3. Obs, this is @Grimmloch; though we didn't chat much, you exemplified the kind of person and player that kept me coming back to this game. Simultaneously capable and humble, fun to chat and team with....just a good person. One of many who comport themselves well, and I have appreciated that so much.

I'll be around till the end too, and will be doing my part to speak up against our untimely dissolution.
  4. I've really enjoyed my spine/ice/soul stalker. The aura is amazing for reducing mob scatter and preventing them from running when their morale breaks, and stacks great with spine's slows.

I occasionally notice a wasted Hidden effect from the proc, but it hasn't bothered me. I'd second ClawsandEffect's notion of taking CE and turning if off if you want to for more reliable Hidden procs.

And, crystal spines can look a lot like ice shards.
  5. To my understanding, Mids is treating Bio as if all three modes are toggled at once. So, you are seeing Defensive mode bonuses as well.
  6. I have a incarnate Spines/Ice stalker, and he's super fun. As others have said, the tradeoff of Quills for an AS is a good one. There's more than enough AOE in the set, and the boost to single-target damage is huuuuuge. There are some better single-target Stalker sets out there, but Spines does more than enough.

I am looking forward to the changes to the set, and am hoping that the buffs to Barb Swipe and Impale clean up the single-target chain, though. It looks really silly to stand in front of a mook and baseball-pitch into his face. Not that its stopped me...heh.

It's a change that makes sense for Brutes too, as a low-level Fury builder, no matter how Barb Swipe ends up in the final attack chain.

ok, here's a slightly more refined version, minus the placement of hasten and barb swipe because i'm too lazy to shuffle the whole thing around; consider those taken earlier. The end use is terrifying, but i guess that's what DNA Siphon is for, lol.

I'll be tossed as to where i'd put the 2nd ATO proc for either brute or scrap, as well.

  9. Here's my first go at a spines/bio build; I too have my eye on a brute of this flavor, once we get the option. I don't consider this a final draft by any means, but it hits some benchmarks.

  10. Telperion

    Shockwave

I just put it in my claw/inv scrapper; amazing, amazing, amazing. Evisceration is getting a little dusty already, hehe. I made a claw/elec brute just to be able to level up with this proc.
  11. Evilmeister, what you built has some impressive defense and near as much recharge as you'll squeeze out of a tanky brute builld, but it can definitely be tweaked.

You have a couple of bonuses over the cap, and some wasted slots here and there. You can also make a great build without the Glad. Strikes, and without worrying about building up f/c defense (due to the relative rarity of pure f/c damage in the game, and what there is can be covered with a luck if actually necessary).

My revised build is based on my claw/inv/energy scrapper that i've loved for years. It drops Unstoppable for Hasten (for more Dull Pain uptime and better recharge on attacks), functionally softcapped vs. s/l/e/n with 1 foe, just shy of 3k hp w/ Dull Pain + accolades, purple proc + -res proc in ablating, and otherwise keeps the same power choices. Hope this helps.

Lunge and Spine Burst have one acc and one endurance reducer each.

Assassin's Impaler has two endurance reducers and one acc.
I have a spines/ice/soul stalker at 50 who's been my pet project last month; build is nearly done, and I'm working on incarnate stuffs.

It gets better; a lot better. Low-level Spines blows, and for me the set doesn't really feel complete till Throw Spines is slotted.

Reserve your judgement until SOs, at least; and at lvl 35 you get Energy Absorption and poof, end issues gone. At lvl 10 you are still on TOs, which hardly do a thing.

To smooth out the pre-22 ride, I'd recommend replacing those endurance slots with Damage, so that your fights are shorter. Or, frankenslot with what you can find on the market to get a measure of acc/dmg/end. Combo that with the use of Build-Up, and your lowbie efficiency should go up.

Also; I'd highly recommend getting the Stalker ATO proc (if not the 5 or 6 piece set) and putting it in Assassin's Impaler. The autohide after you use your AS means a reliable, free crit, that will also increase your endurance efficiency.

    Hope this helps!
  13. I'm not sure how dom Thorn and scrapper Spines compare, but I might suggest a Spines/ stalker. The new AS change gives Spines a single-target burst and sustained dmg that is awesome.

These are my rough notes of the 9 powers we came up with-

    Rad armor-
    Shield 1- SL, toxic resist
Sbield 2- fire, cold, neg resist (neg may be moved to the auto power...)
Shield 3- mez and psi resist
    auto regen/end recovery
    Click absorb power
    Taunt aura, foe minus damage
    Click foe -HP self heal
    Self nuke attack
T9 meltdown mode ending with self destruct

The Click Asorb needs enemies in range I believe- and from what I remember Synapse saying, he always add a +Regen effect to the absorb mechanic because just adding HP is a bit too squishy.. IE your real HP heal faster while the absorb "shield" is getting smashed.
I'm not noticing any Energy resist in the set? Yikes.

    Spines/Ice Help

This is a great first melee build - it can be improved, IMO, but it looks like you have hit all the major points; softcap to s/l with 1 foe in EA, natural softcap to e/n, high recharge in powers that need it. It'd be functional, and is a good place to start.

Here are some suggestions to consider:

--Is skipping Impale a personal choice? I'd advise against skipping it, as its the one power you can get a decent reliable crit on out of hide, other than your AS. And is a part of the best ST chain that spines can muster. Yep, the animation is goofy, and it's slow, but it's what we have.

--Permafrost is an easy skip. Put a -slow IO into Combat Jumping or Super Jump instead, and you'll still be at 100% -rech res, and take Impale instead.

--Steadfast 3% def can go into Hoarfrost, great place for it. It'll always be on even if Hoarfrost isn't active.

--Hoarfrost is overslotted; 5 piece Doctored Wounds + Steadfast 3% def is my go-to slotting.

--Icy Bastion gives a massive regen bonus, make the most of it and slot it for both heal and res.

--You put some effort into f/c defense; IMO not really necessary, since many fire attacks have s/l components, and you have Hoarfrost and Icy Bastion and insps in a pinch.

--I'd use the Eradications you used in Spine Burst for Ripper as well.

--Stealth IO in sprint isn't needed for pve, useful in pvp but this doesn't look like a pvp build.

Here's what I'm planning for the spine/ice i've been running (and having a lot of fun with) for comparison; icap s/l, and just barely under e/n with saturated EA and Agility core, still debating whether to take Placate or Assault...leaning towards Assault, as i've gotten to 41 without Placate and been just fine. Much more spendy, but I'm curious how it'll turn out. I'm open to suggestions as well.

Lol, you've been looking for a way to discount ice armor for some time now, hating how it looks but agonizing over it because people say it's very good. I suspect that Jibikao's icer's build isn't complete yet, and doesn't have incarnate-softcap on it's own to s/l/e/n. And he says that he's actually needing to use all his tools in tougher fights, for once, not that he's a grease spot at 50+.

If you no likey /ice, then re-roll away! You'll have more fun, and at this stage in the game there's no set that can't be smartly built into a sturdy murder machine.

I have a hard time to keep aggro off me sometimes just hitting the mob or just standing in the wrong location
You better read up on the powers available to the set, and reread the responses in this thread.

Edit: you know we are talking about Dark Miasma, the debuff secondary?

    MasterMind Thugs

One of the best strengths of the Mastermind is ' bodyguard' mode, which is when your pets are in 'defensive' and 'follow' mode. The damage you yourself receive is divided equally between you and your pets. As long as the pets stay up, you can tank like a champ. There are MM builds that focus on getting and keeping aggro, through debuffs/select attacks, and even the pool power Provoke. Dark and Traps are both excellent at this, protecting both you and your pets while adding significant and crucial debuffs.

Dark is great for reasons already mentioned, but to reiterate: Darkest Night and Fearsome Stare both debuff tohit significantly, stacking with defense from Thug leadership, personal leadership, shadowfall, and IOs. Add the heal, -res/slow patch, aoe stun + rez, debuffing pet, and you have a monster.

Traps is great for mez protect + def bubble, seekers (protip: cast them INTO the spawn before you aggro; seekers will eat the alpha and blow up), trip mine for damage. Immob + multiple mortars + pg trap regen debuff + multiple triage make them great big-game hunters, without sacrificing spawn-clearing ability.

Both are good, but very different playstyles. Dark feels more active to me, and more vulnerable to mez. Traps is a beast, and I like to have something to do after I lay down the debuffs.
  19. Dark or Regen would go well for that concept; Willpower might work too, but stalker /wp with its active heal is slightly more "vampyrish." I did a dark/wp scrap once as a vampyr/warwolf hybrid that went rogue. Dark is probably more survivable than regen due to layered defenses, but a mature /Regen with brute hp caps (and high s/l def, and hefty recharge) would do well too.

Not sure what you mean by dark/ lacking "straight up attacks?" Single-target, dark/ is one of the best in the biz, considering its additional utility of -tohit, end recovery power, the fear if you choose to take it (it's very useful while leveling), and Siphon Life. Dark's aoe isn't good, but a dmg aura and patron aoe would help that.

If you're still stumped, try both and pick the style that appeals most to you.

The reasons I like the two ideas is, this allows ripper to be a used from hide and getting at least one crit. I also just never cared for the chance of not getting any ticks of damage off.

Also, it just gives it a nice edge with the toxic damage.

The bane mace and widow claw attacks have 100% chance of toxic dot ticks, it'd be nice to be able to count on them for spines.

We'll see how RL meshes with the idea, but i'd love to incarnate the spine/ice/dark stalker I have in mind, and see how the in-game application compares to the theory. I'll post results if I have the free time to get there.

Thanks-i like those two tweaks as well, which would give Spines/ something to use reliably out of hide/placate on hard targets, and boost sustained dps in situations where it'd matter (AVs, trials, lethal-resistant foes.

I'm still interested in animation smoothing so the set feels a bit less...chunky. In leveling my ice/thorn dom, once I built for high recharge and the ice epic, my /thorns use smoothed out to mostly lunge, ripper, and fling thorns. I tend to sigh when I'm locked into the impale animation, lol.
  22. I'm grateful for this thread- I've taken a long break, and over the course of two issues a lot has changed. I maintained my sub, and the SBE procs sound like a nice thing to spend VIP paragon points on.

The stalker changes are excellent, and are what got me looking at the game again; I have a concept for a spines/ice, as the son of my incarnate ice/thorn permadom. I think it'll be a great toon, especially with /ice/levi or /ice/dark backing it up, but here's my wishlist for spines/:

-Make Ripper a 100% crit on the main target, keep 50% crit for the aoe, like thunderstrike. ••Edit•• from hidden status ••/edit••
-Trim animation times for Spine Burst and Impale, perhaps Lunge.
-Discard the legacy Barb Swipe animation.
    -•Just a thought• Make the toxic dot 100% chance rather than 80%/tick?

I'll play it regardless because it's thematic; spines/thorns could use some love, though.

    Brute Fury

Great explanation, Siolfir. Not much more to say...I'll add that the Fury mechanic is why Brutes have such a huge damage cap compared to other AT's, and why a % buff to dmg benefits Brutes less than other ATs. Note that +dmg buffs aren't worthless to Brutes, and do give benefit, just not as much as a class with higher base dmg, like Scrappers or Blasters.

I also enjoy finally slotting for damage at 22, and feeling like the dmg enhancers have given me a permanent Fury buff.

Ladies and gentlemen, the code has been cracked. Siolfir has discovered DB's hidden power.
  25. If the tech is there to do it, AS out of Hide should be uninterruptable, IMO. There are just too many things that can interrupt AS in the full-team settings it is apparently meant to be used in to increase the Stalker's damage and team viability. Don't dangle carrots, devs.
