Thank you very much. I appreciate that.

I've always found it funny that even with the good word of mouth and the "good press" of the Arc of the Year thing it never passed 999 ratings.

(Edit- It is at 983 in fact)

I'll see what I can do! Birds of a feather and all that. Most people I play with are here for the stories.

Sorry (and yes, I still wish it wasn't true but it is; time to move on).
The campaign needs to continue and will continue - it's always been focused on getting NCSoft to sell CoH instead of closing it - and that's the message we'll continue to send them.

OP, please change the thread title.

The way you've titled this thread encourages way too much doom and gloom speculation and hampers motivation to save or preserve this game through other means.

Zwill's post addressed refunds past the shutdown date, VIP status and information we already know. Nothing more.

Act like you have some god damned sense.
Unruffle your feathers, bud. All people did was point out that this was standard action, and not really news. If anything it should have made you feel better, and not start swearing. No one was jumping your gun, no one was accusing you of being negative. So calm down.

I don't think I can. Mods aren't on the boards anymore and thread titles can't be changed.

Mods arent on the boards... as much as they would like to be.

Just an FYI for future reference though, you can change a thread title during the first minute or so after you've made your post. I've done it a couple times to fix a typo.

Yes, I can't stress this enough, nobody expected NCsoft to reverse their decision, except in a perfect fairytale world. A transfer of ownership has been the first most realistic opportunity to save CoH. Today's news changes nothing, and everyone needs to keep that that in mind. We have been expecting this announcement to come, so nobody panic. Nothing has changed.

I'm pretty bummed I wont be able to be VIP for the rest of the games life..I was VIP the whole time right up until the 28th of August when I had to cancel my sub until I had money to renew..Of course that never happaned and now I am locked out of some characters I care for very much because of it...

Right but let's emphasize the most important part of his statement:

That, good sir, is a big "IF" and tells us all we need to know. If negotiations were moving forward in such a way that there was a light at the end of the tunnel, I don't think Positron would've posted the lore guide. It just wouldn't make sense to do so now.

No... we need to recruit other developers, other publishers than NCsoft and see if they'd be actively interested in picking up the IP. It does us no good to beat NCsoft over the head with a demand that they sell the game if there's no one lined up to actually buy it... We need bidders to go knock on NCsoft's door for us and say "We'll buy CoH from you" and see what happens. As NCsoft is in the red, I'm sure they'll consider a lucrative cash offer for the CoH IP. Problem is, not that many companies in the gaming industry have cash to spare (and who knows how greedy NCsoft will be when naming their price to allow a buyout...).

I swear I'm not trying to be a "Debbie Downer" here but neither do I want to see people encouraged to carry on in denial of the facts. There are still action items we can take as a community but none of those involve NCsoft any longer - at least not that I can see after today's post.

Bottom line: They want out.

If you have not previously bought a particular retail box version of City of Heroes (Architect Edition, Going Rogue, Going Rogue Complete, Good vs Evil, just to name a few) then you can find a copy on Amazon or Ebay. Buy one ----

****IMPORTANT NOTE: MAKE SURE THE COPY IS NEW AND HAS NEVER BEEN OPENED!****

---- and apply the code that is inside the box. That will re-activate VIP status for you. That's what I've done.

I initially bought the original City of Heroes box and the City of Villains box sets. (COMPACT DISCS! They were still sets of 5 CDs back then! LOL )

But after that, all my purchases were digital. So there are plenty of box codes for me to choose from to fill out the final days until November 30th.

Also - those boxes are going for CHEAP. My GR complete was only $6.75!

I'm going to be buying the two extra boxes/VIP time I'll need to go VIP all the way to the end in the next few days. I suggest you could do the same.

(I just hope you didn't buy all the retail boxes, because then you really will be SOL.)

Good luck!

"Paragon Studio's sincere thanks", I would have believed in a hearbeat.
"NCsoft West's sincere thanks", I could have been talked into.
But "NCsoft's sincere thanks"? I don't freakin' think so.

I'm flat out delighted. My yearly subscription renewed roughly a week and a half before the announcement, and I had written the money off as lost. I figured I'd get a "your money will be applied towards a game you have no desire to play" email.

NCSoft is well aware that they can make all of this go away if they sit down and negotiate nicely and let someone else buy/maintain CoH.

They assumed we would go away when they said "End of game", take their credit-on-another-game and go away quietly.

We did not.

They assumed we would go away when a week had passed.

We made more noise.

They assumed we would go away when two weeks had passed.

We are still making noise.

They assume we will go away if they give us real money back. Some people want to do that. But this is a game of Stare Down and they just blinked.

We need to start showing them that we are just more than a bunch of game-dweebs who don't know how to do anything but whine.

Go to CoH Titans Save Paragon. We have work for you.

They had never tried to give us credit on another game and call it a day. In prior closing, it took them around 3 weeks to announce what they were going to do, which were refunds (plus several free trials). You know, pretty much exactly what happened here (that was before everything started going F2P, so a trial actually meant something).

Someone posted this in the "Don't give up!" thread. It definitely applies to what you've just said.

Except I still don't have incarnate abilities, or several contacts, because they are VIP only. Logging in is nice, to be sure, since it means I can actually play characters I can't on the regular server (because of free unlocks from the store) but I still can't experience them to the fullest.

We cannot reiterate how tough it was to make the final decision to close this wonderful chapter in our history. This has been a very special time for all of us, and we want to ensure we close this chapter with the best possible gaming experiences for everyone. To celebrate during the closing, we will host several of the popular events we have enjoyed in the past. Exact details and timing of these events will be shared shortly, as we are still nailing down specifics.
That... is the most creative piece of ....

ahem.

Sorry Andy. I know these guys have you in a bad place; but to force you to effectively LIE TO US? BADLY?

Gah. *throws hands up in disgust and walks away*

(btw, in specific, I am referring to anything refering directly to NC soft this and NC soft is sorry about that stuff. I can say no more about this without violating forum equitte and Zwill's been the poor guy stuck between a rock and a hard place enough since the announcement.)

With refund info *I* can draw my own conclusions.

H: Blaster 50, Defender 50, Tank 50, Scrapper 50, Controller 50, PB 50, WS 50
V: Brute 50, Corruptor 50, MM 50, Dominator 50, Stalker 50, AW 50, AS 50
Top 4: Controller, Brute, Scrapper, Corruptor
Bottom 4: (Peacebringer) way below everything else, Mastermind, Dominator, Blaster

So, we're getting refunds and not game time on a title I don't want.

Awesome.

And if we need to raise money to buy the IP, I can put my refund towards that cause.

Awesome.

Keep on giving me what I want, NC ... thanks.

From my perspective this is both good and bad. It's good because I dropped a good chunk of change into the market after 8/24. It's bad because this thoroughly convinces me that CoX is dead. If NCSoft had any intention of letting the game live on there would be no reason to refund points purchases. They would simply inform people that they need to spend their points by a certain date. I think they heard out whoever they were going to hear out on keeping the game alive, decided not to facilitate that, and then released this refund plan.
