  1. The morning the closure notice was posted my best friend called me to tell me about it. He never calls. We always text so I knew something was up. We had both come back to the game a few weeks prior after long hiatuses. The news literally felt like a punch to the gut. I just stood there for a few minutes stunned and speechless. I was numb. Then I got behind the save CoH movement. I signed the petition, showed up to the rally. There wasn't much more I could do but sit back and let the people in better positions to do something than I was get to work. I was hopeful at first, but that hope faded slowly and I went through the grieving process. Now I plan to log in on November 30th and remember the awesome times I had in CoH. I'm not going to be sad. I'm not going to be mad. I'm going to celebrate the extraordinary lives I got to live because of CoH. I simply want others to be able to do the same. Far too many people are carrying on the delusion that they can still save CoH. It isn't going to happen, and holding onto the hope that it will will only make the end bitter. You don't snap people out of their delusions by coddling them. Sometimes you just have to slap them across the face.
  2. Weak Hit Streak... lock my thread (http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=297844) and send me to page nine of someone else's. I don't see you locking the other threads pertaining to NCSoft's latest announcement.

Why not lock these and send them to depths of this thread? Did you just not like my thread because it wasn't full of delusional "we can still save CoH" banter? I was honestly attempting to be constructive. Sometimes that also requires being a little harsh.

    Accept the End

I just popped back here to check out the response to NCSoft's final decision and I must say at this point the save CoH diehards remind me of that stereotypical medic in the movies who just won't stop giving a guy CPR and eventually has to be dragged away as he flails ineffectually at the lifeless corpse.

I applaud your effort to this point. I really do, but this is not just a PR move. Stop deluding yourselves. The game will not be saved. Come to accept that. Grieve now so that come November 30th you can celebrate your virtual life rather than mourn your virtual death.

NC Soft bringing the game back was the least likely option, the main hope has been to revive it under another publisher (or under a new company composed of former Paragon employees). And nothing has changed in that respect. NC Soft would have to refund our money before the game could be moved to a new publisher anyway.
What I meant by "keeping the game alive" was all avenues of keeping the game alive, which includes selling off the IP. If NCSoft intended to let the game live, in anyone's hands, there would be no reason to refund points purchases. Refunding subscription fees paid to NCSoft would still make complete sense, but not refunding points purchases. If the game was going to live on then the points would still be valuable as players would still have two months to spend them at this point before the game changed hands. The message from NCSoft would have been something to the effect of "you have until November 30th to spend your points on the paragon market." No business is going to issue across the board refunds for something when they have any potential justification for not doing so. The only caveat I see to this is if NCSoft's intention is to transfer the game sans character database.

I'm open to a convincing argument to counter my suspicion. I just haven't read one yet.
  5. From my perspective this is both good and bad. It's good because I dropped a good chunk of change into the market after 8/24. It's bad because this thoroughly convinces me that CoX is dead. If NCSoft had any intention of letting the game live on there would be no reason to refund points purchases. They would simply inform people that they need to spend their points by a certain date. I think they heard out whoever they were going to hear out on keeping the game alive, decided not to facilitate that, and then released this refund plan.
  6. Wow. Lot's more info and builds to pour over. Thanks everyone.

To answer the question about practiced brawler, at least so far I haven't really needed it. I carry a few mez breaking inspirations on me and that seems to do the trick. Of the factions I've fought so far Rikti seem to be the most mez heavy (mentalists) and inspirations have worked well. Will this not be the case later on? If I really do need practiced brawler I'll probably drop spring attack since it's more a fun gimmick power than anything else.

As for gambler's cut vs. sting of the wasp, why is gambler's cut better when it has lower base damage? I really don't need the -def with all of the accuracy I have. Is there some nuance to the slotting options that I'm missing here?

Lastly, my thought on aid self is that it would be handy to have for the times when a big strike manages to get through my defense. With such a low chance to be hit I figured that interrupt wouldn't be a huge issue. Truth be told, If I had it right now it would hardly ever get used. I figured a self heal would be become more useful once I'm fighting some nastier stuff that has more than a 5% chance to hit me. If aid self is truly pretty worthless even at higher levels though I'm more than happy to drop it for something else.
  7. Thanks. That's some very good food for thought. Your build is better than what I came up with in every respect if I recall correctly. I especially appreciate the advice on not 6 slotting luck of the gambler. That frees up 5 slots right there.
  8. I've recently returned to CoX after about a six year hiatus and I'm still trying to wrap my head around all the changes. This is what I've come up with so far for a build. I'm absolutely certain that improvements can be made, I'm just not sure where. That's where you fine people come in. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
