Game Cessation information has been posted.

Like I said in that thread, officially the game is being closed, so they have to proceed in said manner. They HAVE to adhere to that, and proceed in a proffesional manner befitting the situation, they can't go dancing around saying "BUT IT MIGHT NOT BE OVER!" or anything like that.

You also have to keep in mind that if City of Heroes DOES continue past this point, it will most likely not be under NCsoft. Just some food for thought.

They're just digging the "we hate NCSoft" hole deeper and deeper. I can't believe such stupid people managed to get that high up in a corporation.

Well, I can't post in the proper discussion thread, and it looks like I never will... That is unfortunate. Can they at least unlock VIP status on Beta? Everything's already free over there...

I was about to say just that too. If the game was being sold, the new company would be starting its subscriptions and billing plans from scratch, so we'd still get this message. Still, hope for the best and prepare for the worst...

They did that awhile ago. Anyone can hop on Beta, VIP or not.

What in this announcement digs the hole deeper?

THIS.
NOTHING HAS CHANGED, PEOPLE.

Calls to Action will move on as normal, I would imagine. What we're seeing here is formalities.

It's not so much Game Cessation information. It's just saying, hey, VIPs are locked in, and you get points and sub refunds for anything past specific dates, stuff we knew was happening but just didn't have dates for. It's just confirming stuff.

Very true. People keep asking about VIP over there..I wish more people would check it out..the content IS so worth the time.

If you've not noticed peopel are quite upset about the "arbitrary" date of cutoff for refunds (it's not arbitrary, they wanted to keep all the cash they squeezed out of the powerset released Aug 21 knowing they'd announce the close a week and a half later). People are unhappy with them not reinstating ViP to Premiums.

Then there's the "corp-speak" bull about how hard and heartfelt this garbage is. Anyone who buys that is delusional and those that are bright enough not to buy it sees it as pandering and talking down to their customers as if their customers are fools.

Really that needs to be a sticky on top of every forum like the rules and phishing warning as well as the website and launcher. But since the website and launcher is web content I expect Seattle will get around to it next week the earliest, September 25th the latest.

Think of it this way, most of us expected nothing at all in the way of refunds or, at best, an offer to apply our unused game time to another NCSoft game (which we mostly didn't want.)

It's not the best of all possible news, but it's not the sound of the hammer on the coffin nail. Until we KNOW there's no hope, then we still have hope.

Well, actually I see a bunch of us just trying to make sure and fill up the first page with practical and non-doomy posts before the doomsayers show up en masse.

Trust me, you wouldn't like the alternative.

Dude, that message is NCsoft officially telling us it's "game over" as far as they are concerned. There are no more action items to take on our side. Either someone else buys the IP or they don't. Everyone did they best they could, now it's time to accept the reality of the situation and make the most of it. If there's no successor announced by November 30th, then there's no successor. No point living in denial in the meanwhile.

Sorry (and yes, I still wish it wasn't true but it is; time to move on).

CoH was 2% of their overall revenue. You think that the amount of income from Bio Armor is that significant that they'd actually care? That seems extremely doubtful to me.

Also, why do you assume the decision about VIPs was done by NCSoft? How do you know the community reps or Paragon didn't axe that plan (like they did with making everything in the store free)? Hell, they might not even be able to set everyone to VIP easily. I'm a bit skeptical that NCSoft management said NO VIP FOR YOU!, overruling the remains of Paragon (Paragon is only effectively dead).

I can't speak for anyone else, but I certainly wasn't trying to imply you were putting a negative/doom connotation on it (the people that are doing that are quite obvious ).

That hinges on NCSoft selling the IP, which is something they haven't done before. Convincing them to do that is what out focus needs to be on. The moment they publicly announced that CoH was closing, it was a given that they couldn't really pull back and say "just kidding," no matter how much they regretted it afterward. The best plan to save the game as it is now has always been convincing them to sell it rather than just mothball it.

Wait, people actually thought NCSoft would un-cancel the game and rehire Paragon? I'm pretty sure none of the Titan people were even trying to work towards that.

In the last 20 years, I've worked in some higher capacity for 3 different companies all of which had yearly profit (not income, profit) in the 9 figure range. They had 9 figure profits because, yes, 2% of their revenue counted and they watched it like a hawk. Heck, they went out of their way to hang on to $50,000 in customer service bonuses they refused to pay out to employees that earned them. So yes, they wanted to hold onto that cash that much. That's WHY they're a corporation, their entire reason for existence is to make giant gobs of cash and hold onto it as long as possible. There is no such thing as "insignificant" cash to a corporation especially when it's "free" money.

If they can hold on to an extra 10 or 20 to 50 or 100 grand without seeming to be evil about it, they will and that’s exactly what they’re doing. Rather than refunding the balance of unused points they just tossed in a “buyers cutoff” that conveniently was well after their last big store item releases.

As for ViP, I'm sure NCSoft actually said something familiar to "will ViP access have to be turned ON or can we just have it activate without effort? It has to be turned on? That's someone we have to pay, no ViP access."

Redbone, this is unrelated but your Sabrina's Tale arc was one of the most memorable stories I ever played through, thanks.
