My wife and I absolutely loved doing Tunnel Rat's missions in Praetoria.

You are now officially my all-time favorite superheroes.

Quote:Yeah, blocking is a must for the charge-up powers. You can test out blocking in the powerhouse (there is a laser testing room that will shoot you so you can compare the damage you take with and without blocking.). Blocking can take a near-fatal blow and turn it into almost nothing. What kind of things are you going against? Yea I found that blocking isnt much of a life saver but good for decreasing the damage of the charge up powers many of the Villain and up mobs do.
I personally never had a problem with death but not to say it is not an issue for some. -
Quote:You're right, but only if you're soloing. Soloing is okay, but I'd much rather play with other people. If I want to play by myself I can go play Borderlands or something. That's only because those using inventions pumped up their difficulty settings.
Once upon a time the max difficulty was, what, +2/x1? Now we can punch it to +4/x8. The game itself, if running at +1/x1 blue side, is the same as it ever was. Red side can be a bit rougher and gold side was designed to be even rougher.
But in any zone, you can still level from 1 to 50 using actual content without ever touching inventions. Edit: Ignoring incarnate content. All of that was geared around cranked up builds.)
Except for my main, I generally only use the one-offs early on (procs like the chance for +end, numina +regen/+recovery, etc) and basic IOs after 30.
But yes, if you want to run around at cranked up difficulty, you're going to need help and you can get a lot of help from inventions. -
I checked out NCSoft stock a few days ago. It went up for about a week and a half then started back down again. It's value is now below what it was before the announcement.

I keep seeing people say this and I think it's bull. I don't like the invention system and tried to play without it for months after it came out. I eventually gave up because I wasn't able to keep pace with teammates. Characters that were great before the invention system were suddenly dying left and right.

Quote:The style in Borderlands and Borderlands 2 reminds me of a graphic novel and you really don't notice the outlining as you play. Basically, I guess you could say that it just "fits."Don't the fairly successful games Borderlands and Borderlands 2 also use a cel-shader with outlines style? So somebody must like it or choose to ignore it.
Champions, as someone else mentioned, seems to be based on The Incredibles and the graphics just don't mesh as well. However, you do get used to it after awhile and once you learn to play with the body and face sliders you can do some pretty nice stuff. I'm very pleased with the last couple of characters I made. You can actually customize the shape of your character's body as much as the look of their costume. Want a superheroine with a big bottom and small breasts? No problem! Want one the other way around? Again, no problem!
I think they do need to add more options for facial appearance, though. Not necessarily in the sliders - just some different texture and shading options would work. Right now there is a choice between basic face or one of a half dozen really hideous faces (i.e. no choice).
In response to something someone else said; I can't imagine why ANYONE would complain about the cloth/leather/metal options! One of the biggest problems we have with costumes here is that the textures often don't match. On Champions you can take just about any costume item and match the texture (well, the shine anyway) to the rest of your costume.
I really think people don't give Champions a fair chance. I'm sure that no one here mastered all the nuances of CoH during their first week in the game. That said, though, I think Champions has a lot of room for improvement. Cryptic does some things very well, but they are very lacking in other areas. I think if you gave the Paragon Studios team a couple of years to work over Champions the way they've worked over CoH, that game would SHINE. -
*sigh* Well, that is what I expected, but I had hoped I would be wrong. I don't buy the line about them being unable to sell it, though. We know there were buyers.

First good news I've heard in weeks. Thank you! All I can say is, Paragon folks, if you can pull this off you have two subscriptions in this house the day you open.

*offers NCsoft 1 billion influence to sell me IP

Super Heros and Arch-Villains Eternal !!!!
..no need for anyone else to post, this topic has been answered in full *nods to self*
I'd been thinking "World of Heroes", as someone already mentioned. -
Good article. Agrees with pretty much everything I've been saying. As for whether or not the closure hurts NCSoft, note that the article doesn't say how much it hurts them. One lost customer hurts the company - just not enough for the corporation to notice.

Was there a loud ding and a circle of sparkling lights around you?
Congrats! -
It's not just the gaming industry. Look at television and movies. Heck, look at just about anything, but entertainment is probably where it's just most obvious. MMOs, TV shows and movies cost a lot of money to produce. So, to get the money they need, producers and developers have to go to a big corporation for backing. Big corporations are dedicated to profits for their investors. So, your producers and developers are forced to prove that they can be profitable and one of the easiest ways to do that is to show a track record of success. Truly original creations do not have a track record, and so you are stuck with remake after remake and reboot after reboot.
Corporations are in the business of making money and, as a result, they are the ones who have money. You see very few successful corporations who truly believe they are in the business of creating original content because, if they really do believe that, it is really hard to be a successful corporation. Expecting a corporation to be dedicated to creating original content would be a bit like expecting an army general to be dedicated to building stylish tanks. It might be pretty, but it doesn't win wars.
Unless the market changes to make original content more profitable than remakes, or the world changes so that making money is no longer the all-important goal of corporations, things aren't going to change. I suppose the bright side of this is that, when you get a real gem like City of Heroes, it shines all the brighter. -
I wanna take that class.

You know, my wife does that all the time, but I'm only 5'3"!! Heck, she's taller than I am. LOL

Very cool story, Dr. Aeon. Thank you.

It'll take time. The business world tends to move slowly - especially in large corporations. I wouldn't expect to hear anything, especially any good news, before late October at best.

I, for one, would happily pitch in on a Kickstarter if Positron and the others want to start a new studio.

I have a heroclix Ghost Widow on the shelf above me. I never thought much about it before, but I'll treasure it now.
