Have to admit it . . . GW2 may replace COH for me

I *believe* that Borderlands was originally developed as one... there are enough trappings around that hint that it was being done as one originally.

I don't read rian's posts, and I saw nothing in what you wrote that contradicts the basic fact that GW is derivative of WoW on a basic level. The should have disguised it even more if that's what they were going for, but they clearly are aiming to siphon off some of WoW's playerbase and are taking aim squarely at them. That's why they have so many races which are similar to ones you find in WoW.

Oh god that does sound good... just for the style/genre. I think I saw about half the episodes and missed the movie.

Way better than it had any right to be. Perhaps I got that opinion due to my extremely low expectations... but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

I got a vibe that is what Wildstar seems to be shooting for. Only saw a cinematic trailer, though. It was cartoony but it made me think that is what a cartoon version of Firefly would look like.

Uh-huh.

Emo Phillips:

I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said "Stop! don't do it!"

"Why shouldn't I?" he said. I said, "Well, there's so much to live for!" He said, "Like what?" I said, "Well...are you religious or atheist?" He said, "Religious." I said, "Me too! Are you christian or buddhist?" He said, "Christian." I said, "Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant?" He said, "Protestant."

I said, "Me too! Are you episcopalian or baptist?" He said, "Baptist!" I said,"Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?" He said, "Baptist Church of God!" I said, "Me too! Are you original Baptist Church of God, or are you reformed Baptist Church of God?" He said,"Reformed Baptist Church of God!" I said, "Me too! Are you reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915?" He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915!"

I said, "Die, heretic scum", and pushed him off.

That's one of my favorite jokes ever!

(I also liked when Emo did the funny siren sound, followed with, "I shouldn't make fun of his speech impediment").

I as well like gw2..it isn't coh but it is good. I understand people are upset about coh , but please keep in mind even some of the "red names" here are playing gw2 as well. Have they sold out? Have they turned their back on coh? No. They are just enjoying another game. I am doing all I can to save coh , but I am enjoying another game too. Before someone askes for proof of the red names..I wont name them , but you can check for your self..facebook , twitter etc... We can agree to disagree , but let us not turn on each other

Outside of the fantasy realm, CoH was just the best there is and was, not just among super hero mmos.
It may be fantasy and it may be generic if you compare it to other games in the genre, but it does alot of things differently that make the entire experience quite different. It's not a grind fest. You don't spend 6 hours camping for rare spawns. You're not going to rage if someone jumps in and starts attacking your mob because that actually helps you. PvP isn't dominated by one faction/team because things get shooken up by the game constantly to keep things even. GW2 might be a generic fantasy mmo if the only thing you care about is what genre it is, but that doesn't change the fact that gw2 did alot of things right as well, some things better than coh, and it has alot of room to grow.

That's not to mention the super sidekick system. Even one to one sidekicking like at CoH launch is not acceptable for me anymore. I need a game where the whole team can be set to act at the same level of effectiveness. Few games out there do that (Champions online and perhaps Star Trek?)
If some high level and low level people wanted to group together, they can do that in gw2. They would just need to do the low level person's stuff, as the game will bring everyone's level down to whatever the area's level is. It's actually a pretty good system, and high levels can still get good xp and progress for doing the low level stuff. The only thing is it won't bring you up in level (except for WvW and PvP), but with it's exemping system being as good as coh's it doesn't really bother me, you can't have everything and maybe something to that extent will be added in the future. Keep in mind this game JUST CAME OUT. CoH has had ~8 years.

Yep...that's why I can't "do MMOs" anymore. They're all fantasy, "hack and slash" games to me. No character customization (oh look you can dye your armor purple! But wait, that armor is no good anymore, time to change it!")...ugh...

2 MMOs "got it right" I thought (1 more than the other)....

1.) Asheron's Call 2. I never played the original AC but really liked AC2. Sure it was fantasy but it wasn't "elves, dwarves, etc..." there were different races. Tumerok, Lugian, Human, etc....it was fun when I played it before Turbine killed it.

2.) City of Heroes. Obviously love this game. I've mentioned before that while I was playing CoH in beta, I was able to get into the WoW closed beta because the guild I was in at AC2 knew someone that knew someone I guess and the guild got into the closed beta of WoW.

I was so excited! Getting into WoW and all the hype about WoW. WOW was I blown away at the difference between CoH and WoW! CoH was (and still is in my opinion) sooooo much more awesome than WoW was for me. More intuitive, easier to know where to go, who to talk to, etc...I'm not the "explorer" type so when WoW told me to go to x city and talk to y person...uh...I know I have to go south but...uh...where in the town is the NPC?! Ugh....*walks 5 mins trying to find him*

CoH? Oh, go here and here's a marker to know where to go! Awesome! I don't want to waste 5-10 mins trying to find something so that I can actually get my quest.

CoH's UI is still awesome and the ability to fight more than 1 "mob" at a time made me smile. Going from CoH to WoW and I'm like, "2 mobs? pfft, I got this...*starts attacking* *gets hit once by each mob* OH MY GOSH, RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!

Yeah...I could go on but...CoH really showed me "wow...fantasy is boooring!" I love me some super-heroes!

Beware. NCSoft is having a massive problem with Guild Wars 2 hacks (11,000 so far that they've acknowledged) and are blaming the players.

They're also having serious launcher problems.

No, it isn't. Seriously, don't you have anything better to do?

To be fair, one of the Guild Wars 2 fan-sites was compromised, and as some people out there have the *really nice* habit of reusing the same email address and password combination for several sites/games out there, some of them got compromised that way.

Me, although i use the same email address for several sites, i also have a unique password (and also in some cases an authenticator if needed) to help improve my security.

*shrugs* If said person is dumb and used the same password across *related* sites, with the same email address, and the fan site gets compromised... then i would *immediately* change the password to my game account (as well as to the fan site account).

The same thing happened with one of the Aion fansites out there (AionSource i believe) soon after the release of Aion in the western market.

tl;dr, some of the "hacks" *are* down the player stupidity for using the same email account *and* password across different websites AND their game account.

...that's because quite a lot of them fell under very well-timed and excellently crafted phishing emails and clicked the shiny. Part of it was also due to people using the same info on fansites that were hacked.

The launcher problems aren't something I've seen at all, even with the early security issues.

I'm still a little burned out on high fantasy, as well. I blame that mostly on a very intense Diablo 2 period several years ago. I think that's why I never spent much time with the original melee sets (Broad Sword), though I've had good fun with the more recent ones (Titan, Staff).

Anyway, to the OP ... glad it's working out for you. Enjoy while it lasts, knowing what you know.

This, twice. I've had some fun in Aion, but it's not the same. It's difficult to go from the glorious mass combat spectacles we've enjoyed to "OMG TWO RIBBITS RUN RUN RUN!"

Nothing I've seen in that game even begins to approach the awesome of two incarnated Masterminds (Robots/Time + Ninjas/Shields) bringing devastation to an entire warehouse of several dozen Carnies. Aion has a pet class, but it's a pale imitation at best.

The same goes for a Titan/SR Scrap + a Blades/Willpower Stalk incarnates taking on the army of Romulus, or saving the world from Mot, in the Dark Astoria arcs. That level of fun is addictive. I doubt I'll see it in any other game soon, if ever.
