Save our City! Something else players can do that's really important!

Okay, a Facebooker by the name of Kellan Pine actually posted this one up. And it's really on point.

Alright guys, there's something important that we need to do. Something that's hard, and something that a lot of people probably don't want to do. We need to play City of Heroes. Make new characters, play old characters, have apocalypse parties, do crazy stuff you never thought of before. Do anything and everything you can to be on those servers. We have to keep our traffic up. How we react, not just out of game, but in game is important. Not only will companies want to see just how loyal we really are, but the remaining staff at Paragon needs to see that we believe their talks can get somewhere. So get online and solo Hamidon or something. Oh, and encourage other people to do the same
I know some people are bummed, and others are looking for some modicum of closure. But remaining in-game is also important. If NCSoft is seeing a lot of protests, but game traffic tails off to nothing...well, problem!

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Good point. I hadn't thought about it too much until I saw this.

I'm sort-of ashamed of not being in-game as much as usual, now. I'll have to fix that....

I definitely want to try and hit the cap, at least, on my flagship hero and villain, by doing all the quests on the way up. I at least want to see the whole story of the game before it's gone forever.

I also want to see Night Ward on my flagship Praetorian, but I only unlocked First Ward content for Premium ...

Dig that! Just logging in and standing around Atlas Park with a picket sign or torches isn't the way to go.

Scheduled rallies aside, go out and fight crime... or commit them, if you're on the villain side.

One thing is for sure. I am NOT soloing Hamidon. Contrary to popular belief, I am NOT that crazy!

to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!

That is actually a really good point. If we go out, let it be with a Bang - no moping, no pouting, just action.

Keep the server metrics up and going - show there is still active interest in the game.

CatMan - some form on every server

Always here, there, and there again.

Yeah I need to hurry up and run the Praetorian content on my main. Have yet to do the iTrials, but I lose VIP in a couple days.... :/

However, I just rolled a new character today that's playing through all the old beginner content (Flux, Wincott, etc).

Yeah... I've already been doing this.

I've been on every night but one since the announcement. That night, I was out late with friends.

I have soloed. I have attended iTrials. I have led a few. I have raided Hamidon. I have gone on TFs. I have plans to help channel-mates get iTrial badges (and am hoping to get a few myself). I joined another SG's ongoing efforts to complete the 100 CoP SG badge. (They're really close now. )

The game itself hasn't changed, nor are my characters any less enjoyable. We may have changed, but we have control over that much, if nothing else. I know it can be depressing - it can feel a lot easier to just give up on it. But there's still fun to be had, and still people there to have that fun with. Don't give up on fun you can still have. If we have to go out, go out like you played before - enjoying the game you love playing

I've been playing every single night- because I want to. I'll never be able to play CoX again, so I'm making the most out of the time that we have.

I've been teaming a lot, running a variety of radio/paper teams and TFs. I have two characters in the low-mid 40s that I definitely plan to get to 50 before the apocalypse.

I'm a little ashamed that I effectively stopped playing a year ago. Had I known this was coming, I'da played until the end. Now I'm stuck in Preemium, unable to play the Incarnate stuff I've missed, unable to collect the event badges of the past year, unable to collect the Incarnate badges I've missed. Even so, I'll be on just about everyday until I can't play anymore.

I'm in the same boat. Just haven't been away as long. Only about a month and a half before I heard the news.

But I have been and a I will be playing HELL out of this game until the servers shut down! (If they do. God willing we can change that.)

Me three. I've done everything I believe has any chance of working, both in game and in RL; only thing left now is to enjoy what we have while we still have it.

from what ive heard, if you were VIP before the closure announcement then you will be permanently VIP until the game either shuts down or another company takes over

same basically goes for non VIPs since there is no way to upgrade to VIP atm

My original intent was to run one more hero and one more villain on a farewell tour, but... sticking with only one or two characters was so contrary to my usual alt-happy playing style, and such a constant depressing reminder of the impending shutdown, that I decided to just play as normal. Much more enjoyable.

Hmm... Admittedly, I still need to hit 50 on Belun and Kadsworth to have a 50 of every archetype... I'd have failed myself if I let the game go away after eight and a half years without at least achieving that.

Thank you for cross posting this. Here was my response in the FB post:

Yes! This! Thank you! I've been super depressed at how dead it's been on Virtue. Players have already left, and looking for RP is worse now than it every was before. When was the last time you saw the Ski Chalet EMPTY!?!? Come on ppl!
I've not stopped playing, and it's been absolutely depressing to see my global list so bare. I'm an avid RPer and the D AND Chalet have been empty ... People have already headed for the hills, and it makes me sad.

This is actually a crap shoot. There's no official word on this. Some players have kept their VIP while others lost it.

My work life is hell through the end of September. But I've done what I can, one evening a weekend at the very least, to get on, to run a PUG. Vets and LFG newbies mixed together.

It has been striking to me, the little I've been on, how this devastating news has left so many people out of game. I can see from my Steam friend's list that others are having a similar challenge, opting at times to play other stuff when in the past they'd be in CoH at that particular hour.

On the plus side, I know several people with both the means and the character to make good on a promise I've heard repeated, "If CoH gets saved, I will stay subscribed to the game from now till when it gets shut down permanently. Even if I'm no longer playing." At this point, I consider myself to be in that boat as well.

My first toon was a, long since deleted, Ice/Ice Blaster named Maddington.

When I heard the news about closing down, I remade Maddington as an Ice/Energy Blaster.

It is hard to log in and play knowing....chokes up.....

Hard or not, I will play the game every day.

It is hard to log in on favorite toons knowing D-Day is upon them.

They may be headed for the hills, but I bet ten nickles that if this game is bought out by someone else, they will scamper back in droves.

:Sigh:

If anyone interested in buying the game reads this, know that a lot of us are emotionally attached to our toons to the extent that is super depressing to log in on them knowing the final countdown is ticking off.

Please, take this into consideration when/if you look at traffic count these past few days.

Also, the next issue in the works, if allowed to go live, would have brought just about everyone back into the game and they would have opened their money sacks wide to outfit their freshly fixed babies...lots and lots of fixes were in this issue.

Lisa-Going to log into the game.

I've been on almost every night.

I have a goal to get my other two mains some shiny IO builds.

So, I'm mostly playing the market or trying to stock up on AE tix, but I'm also up for anything that earns Reward Merits.

Which is why *I* have not been playing as I normally do.

"Le sigh..."

I know it's best to "play while the playin's still good," but it's almost like FORCING yourself to have a good time. Forcing is the OPPOSITE of a good time.
