so many have left already.
Let's not lose sight of the fact that the game is still up and running. Everyone can still play their characters, at whatever account level (free premium or VIP) they were at before the announcement. And we still have (according to all I've seen) over two months before the shutdown happens.
Yes, a lot of people HAVE left. But a lot are still here! Your SG-mates not logging on? Then play with people outside your SG. Friends list looking a little sparse? Then make some new friends! Can't find a PUG for missions or whatnot? Start your own! Your server practically empty? Try a different one! Seriously, anyone not able to find SOME way to enjoy the time we have left simply isn't trying. |
I try to run some tfs: itf, stf, trials all the itrials, hami, rwz raids, etc...
But if i get on at 7pm est and nothing is forming im not gonna sit around and grind on something thats being deleted/canceled in a month anyways. I am trying to play my main characters to thier completion. (only one is actually done everything(arc) and 99.0% of badges).
this weekend was deader than i ever saw. Also I played about 30 mins street hunting in PI and got bored and went apple picking(which was great! beautiful weekend)
I am not one of those level grinders. The rich lore and storylines are worth not rushing through for me...this is what has given me such a deep connection to CoH. I love the journey on the way to the destination. (I do have friends that feel that way, and I have helped them if they asked.) Everyone has his/her own way of playing and that is as it should be. When I log on, I just look to have fun...solo or teaming. Even after eight years and two accounts I haven't done it all yet.

After 7 years of playing and grinding and farming and playing and marketing etc... Its not fun to log on and see nobody around. Also I am already on teh busiest servers. And i dont feel like waiting 20 mins to get on a team for something i dont really want to be doing.

This whole thing in one way an interesting development. Seems like Freedom and Virtue are experiencing what the other 14 servers have been dealing with for years.
Before the announcement, those 14 servers tend to be around 200-400 unhidden players while the top 2 usually hovers above 1,000. And now Freedom seem to be around 250 and Virtue around 500ish.
Well people are likely trying other MMO's at this time in case the game does go dark.
I've been able to maintain teams and trials over the weekend but I have noticed the population drop. Can't say as I blame some people for leaving in a huff but the more that log in and attempt to play can't hurt the quest to save COH.
Or if nothing else, put your alt into Ouroborus mode to avoid AFK timeout and park it outside city call in Atlas and set it to the torch emote like others do, then switch to something else for awhile.
High player density does influence how quickly you get teams.

Fixed that for you. Seriously, every game has this concern. Even WoW, lately.

Nothing lasts forever I suppose. Still, not going to stop trying to save CoH.
"I have something to say! It's better to burn out then to fade away!"
WoW has actually been facing that for a while now. They claim 9 million subscribers, but you'd find that hard to believe on a large number of servers. I recently got a free seven day trial so I went back to test the new changes, and both my main servers were ghost towns. Servers that used to be full and busy at all hours are dead quiet during peak times. It was meh when I left back at the start of Cataclysm, but its far, far worse now.

NCSoft is done with this game. Get that clear in your mind. So sticking around to show them anything is pointless.
The only hope that remains is they sell the IP. And that sale won't be affected by current player activity that has been determined by the closure announcement. If the IP gets picked up by someone else, people will come back in droves. |
I'm playing and enjoying Planetside 2 and trying to keep my mind off things, but this still sucks to me. If the game is sold and saved, I will play. And that's about it.
I'm only ladylike when compared to my sister.
Im not playing any game cause Im busy.
Wasnt playing CoH that much neither lately...
So if the game is sold and saved, I will be back in full force!
But I think its obvious we are already doomed.
logged onto freedom just now. Green server. Maybe 20 people in atlas.
Sad sigh, i think bai.
nothing left to do now that its all over.

I guess you were too early. It's some number north of 50 now, since there are 47 showing up in the search window.

I'm still sort of around.
I haven't logged in lately because I've been busy with RL stuff. But I would have been busy with that stuff whether the game was shutting down or not.

While plenty of people have stopped playing, many of us still do. It seems the longer the player was invested in playing the more disappointing and painful the player finds it to play CoH since the "sunsetting" announcement, which I understand. Virtually all of the seven to eight year veteran players of CoH I know would be back in a heartbeat if it were announced CoH were to continuem but I can appreciate their reasons for not playing (though they all showed up to take part in the Player Rally in Atlas Park.)
Unlike some, I do not hate NCSoft, even as I hate their business decision to kill CoH. What I do hate is the way they summarily fired Paragon Studios late afternoon the Friday of Labor Day weekend. (I heard they gave the dev team a job fair, so I guess that's something.) So, while I hurt for us, I also hurt for the Dev team who had their plans and dreams dashed as thoroughly as any of ours for our characters.
One of my more MMO-savvy friends works for CURSE but after raving to me for two weeks about how good GW2 is, lol, she tells me last night that in less than 2 months she's already bored with it, citing it still has beautiful graphics, friendly interface, but says it's boring, even compared to GW1.
So, while I don't hate NCSoft, I'll certainly be leery of them as an MMO publisher in the future. Frankly, I remain surprised at just how painful I and others have found prospect of CoH ending that I may give up MMO gaming altogether - though the adage of Never say Never applies.
Well, enough of scanning the forums looking for good news, and posting my commiserations. Time to log in and PLAY!!!

Yeah, I haven't logged in since the other night. A bunch of us got together on Pinnacle and took down Hami. Was a fun time, but I think that doing one of the bigger challenges in the game sort of made me think that it was a good place to stop.

I am still enjoying myself playing the game and will continue to log in until that's no longer the case or the servers go down for the last time. Probably the latter.

Still playing, made two new characters this week and got compliments on one, too. The population's a little lw during of hours, but it's not terrible just yet. Oddly enough, Freedom-ers seem to be leaving more quickly than Virtue-ites.
I haven't been posting here at all lately, but I still check back at least once a day to see if there's news or anything else of interest. I haven't given up hope yet, seems there's no reason to just yet.
Time will tell.
I am playing as much as possible and will continue to do so. The only other online game I'd consider playing would be Elderscrolls Online...yes, it is in the works and due in 2013.
