I'll miss you all.
I will be making a Archery/MC blaster, and if FINISHER isn't added it shall be my catch phrase.
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

Aren't most blaster and dominator secondaries mostly melee range anyways?
|
My devices secondary is a lot of ranged and/or stuff like caltrops that helps keep things off me. Cloaking device (prevents as much aggro), targetting drone, trip mines, auto turrets, (didn't take time bomb but still ranged!), smoke bombs (though useless), web grenade, and taser....all have at least a bit of range to it. Taser has the least amount of range, and I only use that when things are closing in on me....so it's technically a way to keep them off of me.
I recently started playing /psi secondary on a psi/psi blaster and I was amazed at the amount of melee range stuff. I've sorta been spoiled by my devices.....I knew there were alot of melee range in other secondaries....but, ugh, I was hoping the trend would move towards ranged secondaries (or things like caltrops or "aim" or "buildup" type buffs.)
I don't see the benefit of secondaries that make you run in and do things. I understand these melee sets were often asked for....but, I'd like to ask for a secondary that keeps me at range

Level 53: Arrows/Devices/Munitions Blaster
....and hopeless Science-Natzi.
Blasters can often already cruise through mobs when there is no mez being applied, its when the mezzes start flying that blasters start dropping.
Dont get me wrong I like the power But you are going to HAVE TO bring other secondaries up to this level. |
Not that I would be at all upset if they put the mez protection back in /Fire.

I'm super happy to see these sets coming and I think they're doing a great job.
I have to be honest though and say that this Blaster secondary isn't quite what I was hoping for in a Martial Arts secondary. I think the main offender for me is the first (have-to-pick) attack, Ki Push. Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea and should be an awesome power (and many people will enjoy it... and even I will with the right concept). It's just well beyond (enormously beyond) the "natural" set of powers some of us have been craving for a Blaster secondary. That is my only "complaint" about this. It's not really a complaint though as much as just a slight/tiny disappointment that this secondary is not the secondary I was looking for... move along. I say this because the attack is a Repel and not a KnockBack... so, it creates this slow, lift and carry away the flailing enemy... I realize now, it's actually a great substitute for Force Choke, hehe... I just would have preferred something (that you're forced to take) to be toned down for either concept... but they went with the Bullet Time flavor. Still, I think both sets will be great additions to the game. Honestly, I love what they've done with the Dominator Assault set and have to admit to wanting something along those lines for Blasters... ![]() Would have loved some shuriken goodness in this secondary. |
Thankfully my one DP Blaster is supposed to have probability warping powers so I can work around that.
I think an alternate animation option for a Crane Kick might help a bit. Currently the KM quick Strike animation amplifies the "force choke" Aspect. If I kick him and then he does that, it just makes him look weird but if I do a special swoosyh palm thrust and then he does that it looks my special swooshy palm thrust look like it's weird.
This might be an opportunity to bring back the old Crane Kick animation.

Oh, and on the other hand (from my previous post), Martial Combat should be a great powerset for the supernatural martial artist... It'll go wonderfully with so many Primaries.
I totally understand (and usually expect) the leaning towards super powers over more ordinary/natural possibilities.
I still want some sort of more scrapper-ish Blaster Secondary that does without anything on the mystical side of things.
However, that doesn't mean that this is not a great design. I can't think of a Primary that this set doesn't obviously go well with, conceptually... Eh, maybe AR and BR (not to say they won't go well together, but less obvious than the natural elements, archery and/or the Gung Fu Dual Pistols).
So, two super ninja thumbs up!

So from watching the vid... it was mentioned a few times that snipes will now need 97% to get the insta effect? Wasn't it 22% before? I don't have a problem with this mind you I just want to be sure I didnt misinterpret what was said or miss some sort of dialogue where they announced/explained the jump from 22% to 97%.

Depending on what the 'chance of' percentages are for MC's BU power activation; snipes could actually find a more comfortable home here compared to some of the other sets.
Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"
*Arc #95278-Gathering the Four Winds -3 step arc; challenging - 5 Ratings/3 Stars (still working out the kinks)
*Arc #177826-Lights, Camera, Scream! - 3 step arc, camp horror; try out in 1st person POV - 35 Ratings/4 Stars

I'm guessing the change in terminology might be related to the fact that the in-game combat attribute shows your total to-hit but your bonus. Saying 97% matches up with the in-game number you'd see if you were monitoring it.
Always remember, we were Heroes.
Oh, man, we are going to have an invasion of DP/MC Blasters in trench coats.
Seriously, though, these sound quite nice.
Blue
American Steele: 50 BS/Inv
Nightfall: 50 DDD
Sable Slayer: 50 DM/Rgn
Fortune's Shadow: 50 Dark/Psi
WinterStrike: 47 Ice/Dev
Quantum Well: 43 Inv/EM
Twilit Destiny: 43 MA/DA
Red
Shadowslip: 50 DDC
Final Rest: 50 MA/Rgn
Abyssal Frost: 50 Ice/Dark
Golden Ember: 50 SM/FA
Just after seeing these two sets in action, I'm impressed.
Now I have a couple of Character rerolls/concepts in mind...
DP/MC Blaster (another variation of my DP-AR/EM Blaster)
Wtr/MC Blaster (a 'bender' type Character, currently a Wtr/MM Blaster)
Dark (I think, maybe Mind)/MA Dom (Something Ninja-like)
I'm actually impressed with MC. Inner Will, Reaction Time, and Reach for the Limit are gonna make Blasters fun. RftL, along with the Blaster Inherent, are really gonna give a more Brute-like feel, damage wise. Inner Will is a nice 'Oh PANCAKE' button. Especially when facing several Tsoo Yellow Inks. Depending on what Reaction Time takes (Guessing Slow & Heal sets) and End cost, I can see it being used for Blappers for sure.
Can't wait for I24 to hit Beta now...
Thank you for the time...

Martial Assault seems really boring - Caltrops, a snipe, boring martial arts animations and no debuff. The only thing it has going for it is the extra toxic damage and Trick Shot. I would much rather have another melee attack than a snipe because, as it is, it's a pretty melee centric set with the stupid facing cone so it may as well play to that strength.
Martial Combat gets lots of fun stuff... Martial Assault gets Caltrops and four lots of shuriken.
Yawn.

I like most of the MA dominator set. I am worried about the cone. I don't generally like these types of powers in any game I play. I much prefer the way CoH cones have always worked. That said, the game has room for an option such as facing cones that I would skip, but others will enjoy.

Well, I was rather hoping Eagle Claw would be in if Martial Arts ever came to Blasters but it was something I knew would be a longshot. So, while I am a bit dissapointed that my favorite Martial Arts attack isn't in...
I am still very, very excited to see this. Color me stoked - Pistols and Martial Arts together AT LAST, it feels like it's been a long time coming. Really happy to know the wait will be over soon - not having Eagle Claw in there doesn't change that one bit!
So, thanks to Paragon Studios, I can cross one major wish off my list - one I have wanted since I signed on in '04.
Thanks guys, you rock!

PS Edit - By the way this cannot hit either beta or live soon enough. I am seriously pumped by this announcement - my knee is bouncing like crazy and it has nothing to do with the nuclear strength coffee I drink of a morning and everything to do with this announcement! <grin>
