But Q did get depowered by the Council at one point, so its safe to assume there are other godlike beings in the Trek universe. Course Q is the only example we see, so...yea. Maybe Q.

More likely: Wesley Crusher.

Sorry guys... There is one...

The BEYONDER http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beyonder

So powerful, he not only made several races cease to exist with but a thought, but any and all races that ever knew anything of those races also bit it. He totally erased the entity of death, causing the entire universe to become essentially immortal, and even gave another character the power to defeat him on a whim (Kind of like the old, "Can god create a mountain so large, even he could not lift it?").

Willing to put money that he could even defeat the "Brothers", as the Living Tribunal, and Spectre had sufficient power to hide a third dimension from them.

It is never truly gone, as long as there is someone left to remember.

I hate the recon of the Beyonder. As a universe unto himself, he should be equally matched with Eternity, but well above the Celestials and the Molecule man.

The correct spelling is Douwd. I kept trying to look the wrong version up and getting nowhere.

Too many alts to list.

I still feel the retconning is an attempt to make him a viable opponent. His power created paradox, and was only ever defeated by tricking himself into making his form assailable, even if you still needed Molecule Man and the Silver Surfer to do it.. odd, I know, but such was the power of the Beyonder.

As for being on par with Eternity, so is Death. As two sides of a coin, they share quite a chunk of the sum total power of our universe, but the Beyonder is the sum total power of his entire universe... its Death and Eternity as well.

As a fun side note: The MSHRPG expresses all of his capabilities with the infinity symbol. The only other character that even possesses a single trait of that calibur, was the Living Tribunal's cosmic awareness.

The Living Tribunal (Before Bendis thought it was too inconvenient and did away with him)

Depends on what kind of power you're talking about, I suspect. In some respects, up until the time he got shot, Don Vito Corleone was among the most powerful fictional characters ever.

So, yeah, we'd have to decide just what level and kind of power we're talking about first.

I would agree with that, but I would say god, as in, the conception of God that authors create. For example, Kevin Smith wrote Alanis Morrisette in the role of God in Dogma. Whatever, your religious background (unless you worship Alanis Morrisette), that's not what God is.

However, in that movie she was still infallible and omnipotent. In fact, the whole movie was about making sure that remained the case.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

The first question, the question that should never be answered, hidden in plain sight, the question he's been running from all his life, Doctor Who? Of course!!

"Star Wars is adolescent nonsense; Close Encounters is obscurantist drivel; "Star Trek" can turn your brains to puree of bat guano; and the greatest science fiction series of all time is Dr. Who! "

Death from Supernatural needs some consideration. Especially because he's actually an interesting character.

This one is a very obscure one, and not really the most powerful but I put it out for academic interest: George McWhirter Fotheringay

The movie this HG Wells story was based on is now in the public domain and is worth a look if you like thought provoking, old timey movies. I think it's germane to this subject.

Guess I'm the only one who didn't find the God quip funny.

Anyway, powerful characters really does come down to what we consider a "character". Nearly any fictional universe can create an omnipotent being that controls everything, and because of this we are left with trying to pick out omnipotent is better than another, and do so on an immeasureable scale. However, something I rarely see happen is when the main protagonists or antagonists are one of those omnipotents. To think of "character" as being someone whom the story follows, has development, and changes in response to the plot, we would find a lot of those one-offs or forces of nature eliminated. With that, the "most powerful" fictional character that is as protagonist or antagonist that I can think of is Goku from DB/Z/GT.

You can also get into a debate on what constitutes "power", but I'll keep that aside for now.

Who do you think is the most powerful fictional character ever?

Right up there with Castiel as far as character that came about after the Main three were established. I love that he's the only thing I've really seen that causes Dean to show actual fear and respect.

And he gets one of the best introductions of pretty much any TV character ever.

The Saint of All Killers caught God away from the Throne Room and that evened the odds between them.

My vote goes to Azrael, aka the Death of Universes, from the Discworld novels.
