Freebie Friday

Well, no one has done it yet, so I'll be "that guy".

What are people getting for Freebie Friday? From what I get from the announcement, you get something random. Both my daughter and I got an XP booster (1 charge). I actually burn through those rather fast, so I'm quite happy.

Otherwise, I was hoping to get a Lindsay Lohan pet temp power. It must be the confusing name.

(Edit: Heroes could get a Jamie Lee Curtis pet, villains a Lindsay Lohan.... off to the suggestions forums I go!)

CoH has been unique in the sea of cloned MMOs.There are years of possibilities still
in such a well designed, well supported and well loved game.Shutting it down now doesn't
make sense on any level except, perhaps, on some spreadsheets bottom line. I do not
consider this an act of a company that has the interests of its customers at heart. This
calls into question why I would want to be part of any further ventures involving NCSoft.

The devs will pick an item at random* to make free, it's not like a roulette game or anything where you spin for a random item. Likely most will be consumable items, but they could always do various costume items or something like that (I doubt they'll ever do a costume pack or any bundles).

* for values of 'random' that are 'not random'

Yeah, I actually just used up the 20 charges of patrol XP temp power thingy on my Staff Stalker, so this will help.

Is this the patrol XP version or the "you have one hour to level as much as possible" version? I can never keep them straight by their names alone.

Umm, yeah. My idea of "Random" must not match that of whoever crafted the announcement. There is nothing random in it for us, regardless how someone running the Freebie Fridays determines what's given away.

I love random. This is not random. Well, sorta is: they randomly used the word "Random". The concept is great even with a set gift, but they should update the announcement. It's confusing.

Random as in it will be arbitrary what they will choose, not all consumables or all dual inspirations.

HA! We'll see about that.

This freebie friday did nothing to get me excited about future ones. Now if they had did something like with the titan weapons pack, which proved you could give something good away for free and than charge for it after.

That won't stop the crybabies from trying. You'll hear their waambulances carrying their complaints about the unfairness of free gifts in dozens of variations.

Honestly, this "Freebie Friday" program doesn't serve its purpose as it has started out.
It's purpose is to get people interested in the Paragon Market, but the first day is so far a failure(definitely for me and likely for many others).

Why?
I was expecting something a little more interesting, especially the first time, than a single XP Booster that doesn't last all that long.

If it is going to always be "a single very short time consumable" or "one single costume piece that nobody has been buying otherwise" then I'm going to stop even bothering to check.
I certainly will not be looking at the rest of the market either when their "amazing deal" is only $1 or $1.50 because it sends the message that they're not very generous and greedy with the other prices that still remain much too high.

I would rather see permanent price drops, or at least much more frequent and decent sales, on the more desirable things that cost so much than a stupid "free baseball card in every cereal box" that costs them practically nothing and is worthless because it is, on top of being mass produced to the point of not even being worth collecting for later resale(in the case of the cereal baseball cards).

You want to entice people into the market? Offer something every week on sale that people really want for a very good deal, or offer something better for sale(ideally a permanent unlock or a 5 XP Booster pack and the like).

I'm not impressed or even interested currently, but I will claim it just to say "may as well take it" and continue ignoring the overpriced store.

I love Freebie Friday
Sure some will complain we ONLY got 1 xp booster for free, but ya know what...it was free.

I honestly don't wanna see something like the TW set; because unlike an xp booster that can be used by any toon (that is not 50)...the TW weapon pack is for one melee powerset; which I have 0% interest in.

Things I would like to see:
The new uber insps...maybe like 3?
1 pack of super packs
1 random ATO
1 free rename token

Freebie Fridays aren't supposed to me OMG I GOT XXXX....they are to me lil treats I can look forward to

Did you open the Paragon Market? Yes? Well then, it served its purpose.

A) It's a free gift. Don't be that guy.

B) Giving a free gift worth $1.50 out to 100,000 people isn't generous? Weekly Task Force, man, you watch too much Oprah.

What? I got a bundle of fresh-minted sequential twenties, each stamped "Courtesy of Paragon Studios" in red ink. I specifically requested used, unmarked, non-sequential bills.

So mad rite nao.

Cars cost a lot of money and time. Oprah took a huge loss(with future gain due t more people watching and paying to be in the audience) to give those.

The consumables didn't cost the company much at all for this game, maybe about the same as they cost to purchase 25 or so.
They have a huge profit.

It's like a metal fastener production company giving away a single nut and bolt that costs them a pittance to make and they normally make 500% profit on while their main business is huge bulk orders or hundreds of thousands of nuts and bolts.
"You'll come back for bulk orders once you see what this one bolt and nut can do for you!"
Nope.

Edit:
I'm not mad, just unimpressed and disappointed.

FYI, it's actually a $1 or $1.50, and it's maybe 0.0001% of their profits just from XP Boosters.

The "spitting out $20 bills" analogy doesn't fit this situation at all, but that is why that analogy is "hyperbole".

Really? The studio is giving us something, at no cost, and people are still complaining about it?

No, no that seems entirely apt and not hyperbole at all. Are you sure you're aware what that word means? Maybe it's analogy that's tripping you up? Because, it all fits. Like, perfectly. I cannot think of an instance this week that could fit that analogy more perfectly than this particular situation. They have given us something free and it has been nitpicked. That is completely analogous with the twenty dollar bill scenario. The actual value doesn't matter, they are giving you something at no cost to yourself and someone has found fault with it. That is the entire premise of the twenty dollar scenario. No matter what the company does, however they do it, someone in the fanbase will find fault and even if its 'fixed' someone else will find fault with the fix. It's an unpleasable fanbase. Like this is a textbook example of it.

Who knows, maybe these complainers have never got anything for free before and it's a feeling deep down they can't explain.

Don't search for a meaning for this feeling, Mr/Mrs complainer. There is no "man behind the curtain". It's a free gift from the game you are playing. Receive it. Enjoy it. Revel in it. Smile once you click it and sleep well knowing it was....Free!

NCSOFT may take away our servers and beloved dev team, but they can't break our spirit and community. with all your power, NCSOFT, your victory will be bitter-sweet. I, personally will be there to laugh at you when you face-plant into the ground.

It really takes a certain kind of person to not only be "unimpressed and disappointed" about a company giving you free stuff but then decides that they were "unimpressed and disappointed" enough about it to publicly complain that the free stuff wasn't cool enough.

Did you really seriously believe that a company would willing give their cooler stuff away for free when there are still plenty of people out there willing to pay good money for it? When a grocery store offers up free samples of food it's always little bits of cheese or sausage - when have you ever seen them offer up whole turkeys or sirloin steaks for free like that?

Gods people... put just a tiny bit of thought into this and accept it for what it is.
This isn't rocket science - they were NEVER going to give away their most expensive stuff this way.

make it a $1 bill scenario and it becomes appropriate

The problem with giving out permanent (ie, non-consumable) items is: What do you do about the people who already paid to unlock them? I suspect there would be more complaining about that than regular free consumable items.

I suspect that the items selected will remain consumable throughout the foreseeable future.

(That said, I wouldn't complain if, say, enhancement tray 3 were being given out one week....)
