Animated Textures as simple base skins:

With animated textures making their way into costume parts (the corsair cape and the chainsaw) would love to see some SIMPLE* base skins for characters made out of energy or exotic materials:

Swirling molten skin similar to the magma effects seen in SSA1 mission 1, final map.

Swirling plasmic energy that resembles the surface of the sun, complete with white hot glow and the occasional sunspot.

Parallax animations for cosmic skins that convey characters made out of outer space with stars, nebula and galaxies at their core.

***

*Note that when I say simple I mean "without seams, bits or baubles added on." In other words, simple in terms of design concept. I realize that technically these could be difficult to pull off as they may require multiple animated layers (like the magma in SSA1), tweaks to existing tech (glow and reflectance maps included with animated textures), and perhaps altogether new tech (parallax animations on a texture that function more like particle sprites do in game with their angle connected to the camera and not the object geometry, appearing to turn the skin into a window). Regardless, I think these sort of skins would be so cool that it would be worth it.

Why not make it tintable and have many color options as well as patturns of Tye Dye

Yo Dink, you're a huge fan of porting costume parts across genders or to new categories, and have done a lot of great work in this department. And I'm sure you've got a large list of parts that you plan on porting over as time goes on.

Any chance of adding the Princess Hat to that list, so that Males and Huge can wear it? Even thought it's called a Princess Hat, it looks like a cartoonish Wizard's hat and would be great for more silly looking wizards. Like the kind from old school Disney movies or cartoons. Just rename it "Wizard Hat" and change the hair to another existing hairstyle and we'd be set.

Just something to think on.

I'd love to get a legit energy skin look.

I don't recall if it was brought up in this thread, but I would *love* to have the retro-Arachnos costume pieces available for my VEATs.

While i have asked for Rularuu parts repeatedly, i would tonight wish to post some annoying clipping issues which i have discovered with the Rularuu's Talons costume pieces.

After preforming the "Spin" claws attack the weapon models would turn sideways, and whenever i used them with monstrous hands, the weapon on the open hand would clip.

strongly seconded. the pattern already exists ingame on npcs, just need it as a pattern for player costume parts

I can actually address this. You're running into a couple of problems here.

1. All of the Claws animations, both before and after BABs worked on them, assume that your claws are mounted on your hand, so where they point is controlled by the direction of the fist. This is true for all Claws, except two: Vanguard/Talsorian Claws and Rularuu's Talons. Both of those weapons are actually mounted on the forearm and actually follow the angle of your elbow.

If you're not afraid to draw on your own arms, here's what you can try to visualise is. Take your hand, and put it palm-first on your chest, then draw a line from your middle finger knuckle all the way down to your elbow. Make sure it's straight. Now twist your wrist in the basic Wolverine stance, with the knuckles down as though you'll be stabbing at someone from below. Note how that line twists, and the end which was by your elbow is now on the outside side of your arm. THAT end is where the laws are mounted so that's where they'll be pointing.

You CANNOT make forearm-mounted claws work well in this game because most animations for Claws rotate the fist away from the forearm and you end up slapping people with the side of the blade. You may not notice it, but that's what the set is doing.

2. Some of the Claws animations are bugged. See, Claws has its own stance, similar to one of the Cheer emotes emotes. This keeps the fists closed, the palms up and the claws aimed forward. This is what you're supposed to go into when you're done with a Claws attack, but the trouble is that not all the powers do that. One of the Claws animations is the same one used for Barrage, but because it's the same animation, it puts you into the same stance, which is the basic "left foot forward" stance. This has the hands open, usually causing them to clip with the claws. I'm pretty sure that's a bug, and I believe I've reported it. I'd advise you to also reporting via the in-game /bug function.

The sad truth is the game's animation sequencer is really wonky, and has been getting worse of late. A lot of times, what follows up a specific animation won't always come out right. Numerous times my Titan Weapons user will jump up using the basic jump animation and jam her sword through her head, and the "false combat mode" bug which makes it possible to override ALL animation rooting for some sets was still in the game last I checked. None of our animators have so far been able to fix that thing to not produce these kinds of weird behaviours... Likely because no-one has ever sat down to do that, as far as I can tell. The art team is always busy with other stuff, it seems.

Speaking of other things the art team is busy with, can we please get a selection of horns that cover the entire head in a way hair would? I'll let Lillith demonstrate:

See how she doesn't have just a few horns on an otherwise bald head, or over hair? Her entire head is an exo-skeleton of horns that form sort of a helmet. Now, I'm not being entirely truthful - she does have a pony tail at the back of her head, but she doesn't really have "hair" in the conventional sense.

With all the horns we have right now, they're all designed to be used over something else. If you use them over a bald head, you get pretty much that - horns over a bald head. But what if I wanted to use horns the same way I use hair - to cover the entire top and back of the head? We don't have any of that, and I'd like to have at least one set.

I'd love to have an arm bracer that covered the length of the forearm but left the hand bare. I've been making do with the cloud bracer but it's not ideal. The other bracer has decoration on it.

I'd love something like this but I strongly suspect they don't want to give us a costume item that would make making outfits like this:

any easier in this game.

Possibility of copy right infringement has never stopped them from giving us generic costume parts before. If someone does make Wonder Woman, that's what the Report function's for.

Fair enough. Still one does have to wonder (no pun intended) why such a basic superhero-ish item like this has been left out of the game thus far.

Our dev team love the extravagant, overly detailed, and shiny. Or robot pieces. They have a serious obsession with tech and robot parts.

Well it did just occur to me we did get something almost like this suggestion for males in the Barbarian costume set:

Too bad that didn't get ported to females...

We need the barbarian pieces that are unique for males ported over to females.
The new chest straps, and the belt and the bracers are very demanded pieces.
The existing old chest straps for females is a joke and the bracers are old too and dont have a tight option like those new awesome bracers.
Please Dink, when you have some extra time for the female models...
Also, the gunslinger high boots are awesome but can we get no lace/no spur option for it, please? Same shape but a basic one.

Female models always get ports of the male costume parts, but it never works in reverse.

Guys must get something in return!

Therefore guys should get the Carnival of Light pieces. Mostly the head pieces, masks, and the sash, though I'm sure some want boots.

And I am completely agree!
Im just asking that because I got some female character would look awesome with those pieces I requested...
But I agree every costume piece should be for both female and male, with the expections of femenine skirts and high heeled boots...

I'm surprised those bracers haven't been ported over to female characters - they match well with Valkyrie shoulder and boot pieces.

We could use some more medieval armor pieces, particularly now that we have chainmail to go underneath. I'd love to have a proper generic ornate breastplate rather than the roman themed vests we have. And a lot of the pieces that would work for a breastplate don't properly cover a portion below the belt, and lack any sort of matching option in pants or skirts - which can put a damper on wearing if a knight's more vulnerable spots are left exposed.

Bonus points if it fits a shining knight concept. To give you an example, here's some pretty amazing work a modder did for a nameless game. Remove the winged designs in favor of something more generic and you've got yourself an armor set worthy of a hero. Asking for this exact same thing is out of the question, mind you - but I hope this might give you an idea of what's possible if you're inclined to put a few more bits of armor in the game for us knight fans.

Something I just realized we have extremely little of is: SHELL designs.

We just got the WATER based powerset, so... where are the oceanic style costume pieces?

Shoulder pieces:

Conch shells, Nautilus shells, Mitre shells, Clam shells, Starfish; Fins (similar to fish monster, but colorable)

Chest designs in similar fashions (particularly a 3-d starfish would be cool)

Coral hair, shell hats, leafy-sea-dragon hair, lion/scorpionfish hair/fins, FISHERMAN HAT (with hooks and bobs?)

Tail similar to a seahorse's, shark's (animated)

Glove and Boot options: FLIPPERS (diver's footwear), coral, better fins than the fish-monster ones

Cape: manta-ray 'wings', a SCHOOL OF ANIMATED FISH? (Hey we have the waterfall option, and auras, maybe the fish could be an aura)

... Just trying to do a character up for a friend on deviantart and found a huge lack of both sea-creature and fossil-style items.

I know this is a huge suggestion....but make new geo's. *gets ready for incoming flak*

New models would make a whole boatload of stuff possible, correct?
Ah, what am I thinking. New models would probably break the game so that it couldn't be fixed.

*glances at the new mob bodies in the DA arcs*

.......maybe not?

New geos won't solve the problem of customizing leg length to a greater extent. You really can't mess with the legs to any great extent because they're central to the animations system, and not just kicks and such. Longer-than-normal legs already cause emote flubs, specifically with the female "sitchair1" emote, where the ankle is bent at the wrong spot on a long leg. All this would do is alter the length of the legs, but not our ability to customize them.

And really, if that's the cost, I'd rather keep the long legs we have now. One of the BIGGEST problems I have about character design in most games these days is short, stubby legs that make the torso look elongated. Sure, our legs aren't realistic, but then neither are our wings or our jetpacks.
