Game of Thrones Season 2!
They need to carefully pace so they do not out run the published material, and given GRRM's writing rate, that would be a real concern.
|
That's true of course, but they have to balance that with boring the viewers with a lot of new characters and storylines that aren't directly related to the main characters already.
They might have Feast and Dance spread over two season (still they would certainly combine them, they aren't going to give some of the star characters a whole season off and then ask the audience to go back in time the following year) but I can't see them going any more than two at most. So one season or two, GRRM still has to get cranking on the remaining books. |
Of course as we all know it's often very hard for TV shows to stick to multi-year plans like that. There may be pressure to keep churning out episodes as long as the ratings are good regardless if it's good for the story or not. Time will tell of course but I hope they come up with a good climax/conclusion and stick to it.

this show really has amazing child actors. i normally HATE child actors but these are so good that everything is believable and helps to make the fantasy more real. wow. I want Arya and Gendry to get married and live happily ever after as king and queen with arya wearing the pants. :d Daenerys can come. and Jon Snow. and all the direwolves. dragons too. please nobody spoil my fantasy. |
Bad child actors = Terra Nova
Yes, it really does make a difference.

(Not addressed to anyone specifically, just in general)
I think fans have gotten way too worked up about the delay of the last few books and the future of the franchise. GRRM has addressed those issues (like the reasons or not) and given the freight train that is ASOIAF now as compared to 10 years ago there is no way you'll see delays like you did before. Too many people are relying on them to come out now. The books will be completed before the series. I have no doubt. (Unless the series is pulled before for other reasons.......(see Luck) )

Keep in mind that while there are gaps in the written work that leave out key characters for extended periods, the events are largely concurrent. Lots of editing to chop and align, but I think they could manage around the periods that would seem like missing the main characters. Be a fun challenge as a screen writer, but some real hair pulling I bet.

Yeah it would only make sense to combine Feast and Dance given they take place at the same time. Whether or not it would be one or two seasons is debatable and depends on how the important the happenings in Dorne turn out. I also think the famous Myrenese Knot that GRRM struggled with so much can be pared down considerably to convey the same thing. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the three slaver cities end up being only one.

That's my point - they will have to combine Feast and Dance to run concurrently, rather than do season 5 as Feast, season 6 as Dance.

We are in agreement.
In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the three slaver cities end up being only one.
|
That would be tragic!! Though understandable ... I mean one of the most enjoyable parts of that section in the story for me was imagining what it would look like on the screen. Plus I'm a big fan of Danny going "rawr" on people and cities...

Considering SoS was in 2000? A Feast for Crows came out in 05? and Dance in 11... I'm like dying every time I think of the name or watch the HBO show due to the fact of knowing I -won't- know for some time. I just kind of nullify it with the joy of seeing it come to life

There's no way they can do a season without Dinklage on screen, so obviously they will combine Feast/Dance somehow.

The kids are doing a great job on Game of Thrones. Joffrey Bieber as an awful character in the books, but Jack Gleeson has taken that awfulness to new heights. I've never wanted to see a good stabbination befall a fictional child more than I have Joffrey.
Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!
Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.

Related observation, I love how GRRM writes because it can be considered a spoiler that major a character DOESN'T die before we get to the next book (or season).

But I think I can reasonably suspect that "Joffrey Bieber" is going to get his revenge for that eventually.

:squeal:
Just watched Episode 2. Interesting "encounter" with that fire lady. I am kinda beginning to like the Imp. He actually seems the most sane of all the insane people around him LOL.
The dude feeling up his sister was gross but those two Lannister sibs already topped out my gross out meter for the entire series LOL.
Looking forward to the blonde dragon chick's story moving out of the dessert hopefully soon.
Good series.
The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.
I don't get HBO, so I have to watch the dvds. Saw the first episode on a free preview weekend, so I picked up the box set when it came out. Only up to about episode 4 so far though.
First...Tyrian is awesome.
Second...loved Daenarys verbally laying the smack down on that elfy brother. Not very intelligent to try and assault the wife of the leader of a horde of Mongolians. Especially when he has literally nothing to back up any threats.
Third...the Wall is awesome.
Fourth...I would love someone to sit Robert down and say about that cowardly little PITA Joffrey, "That kid really looks like his father..." (because I'm guessing he isn't Robert's).
Fifth...Iron for the Iron Throne!

It's been definitively answered in the books, several times. Unfortunately, none of those answers are compatible, so we still don't know the truth of it. My pet theory is that Jon is really the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, but that's highly unlikely.

I don't think it's unlikely at all. It's what I've been thinking for a while now. It's the only answer that makes sense to me.
|
I guess it could be possible. I vaguely recall that there was something off about the timing of the whole thing, that made me conclude that it was highly unlikely. But I can't remember what it was. Been a while since I had the whole timeline memorized.

:ghasp: omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first time someone in one of the books made a definite statement about who Jon's mother was, I was all "ah well, so much for that". The second time it happened, I thought "hm, so maybe nobody knows, after all. Interesting!"

What locked it for me is actually the way Sean Bean played some scenes in the show, amusingly enough. The scene where he tells Jon "you are a Stark of Winterfell, you might not have my name but you have my blood" and not "you are my son." There was someone else he referred to as a Stark of Winterfell. "She belongs here," he said.
Also the scene where he's talking to Robert, and Robert can't recall the mother's name and says he never got to meet her, and Ned says he never will.
Robert wants all the Targaryens dead. No way Ned would tell him about Jon.
Ned is so hopelessly honorable that it gets him killed and starts a war. No way would he be unfaithful to his wife.
Rhaegar was not the kind of man to kidnap and ****. Aerys, maybe. But not Rhaegar.
I've got more theories about how it all will end based on this idea, but I won't go on. Suffice it to say that I think I now get the real meaning of "A Song of Ice and Fire."

I could write several pages about why (removed). If anyone would like to hear some of the arguments just PM me. I'd rather keep those kind of long term (spoilerish) type things out of the thread for others sake.
Also......Davey- PM sent.
