Updates on the way: Steampunk, Gunslinger and Magic Packs!

You might want to rethink your argument when they're creating one costume for all models (male, female and huge)... PLUS an entirely different costume specific to females-only.
completely and utter unrealistic for the amount of developer time we have. as has been pointed out by the devs. many times.
I NEVER understood this idea that some posters have that the devs and artists have infinite time to work on anything they want. As if there are no deadlines. Some folks need a reality check. Again. |
THAT sounds to me like an unrealistic expectation for the usage of developer time, yet it's apparently what we get.

The women I play with in CoH/CoV make female characters. The men I play with range from making only female, (a few) making both male and female, (most) and making only male. (few)
I know that's not a good standard to judge all players, but it's widely known guys make female characters. (See G.I.R.L. acronym**) If both male and female players use a lot of female costume items, and only a few just use male parts, it makes sense for the devs to make more female stuff. Why? more people use 'em.

Okay, this is great news.
...but.
I bought all the Female Gunslinger pieces individually, because I didn't need the bundle, which featured a bunch of male / huge parts I'd never need or use!
*Sad Trombone*
I know the answer, but ... If I now buy the pack, will I get any discount for the pieces I already bought?
Guess this means you're changing your sig?
I'm very happy about this addition and will now be purchasing the Gunslinger pack because of it.
It's half funny and half mystifying to me that people are actually complaining about being given this stuff. Oh, well. I suppose it's inevitable. There's always somebody, no matter the change - even Inherent Fitness got its share of dissenters.

And for the record, I really DO want an apron, so I can finish my crazed butcher character design and have a reason to buy Titan Weapons...

Keep in mind that if all you're interested in is the male stuff, it's almost always more cost-effective to just buy piecemeal.... so why worry about the 'pack?
Absolutely, yes. It's not a question in my mind of "what's in the costume bundles," it's "HOW MUCH is in the costume bundles." For every ten pieces that females get, I believe that males should get at LEAST eight.
Having an issue with the Gunslinger bundle because of the differing costume content is a completely different beast, and it's not something I'm going to argue about. |
In reality men have fewer "acceptable" clothing options than women. Look at the variety of typical business attire that's considered acceptable for both... or the selection in your typical department store... or any online boutique. When the devs are thinking of a theme, there are bound to be a few items that are uniquely female, but very few that are uniquely male. Similarly, in any themed pack, there are going to be more viable "uniquely feminine" options uncovered than "uniquely masculine." (granted, some of the costume elements like the clock-belt-buckle, could have been ported over to male)
To me, the Pocket D Valentine's pack strikes a good balance- the jeans and shirt realistically would be acceptable for either sex, but the strappy dress just isn't as universal....
awesome. pure freakin' awesome. I cannot wait to play with these. *giddy giggling* Thank you thank you thank you!

Except...that isn't what we're getting, AFAIK. The Costume Pack strategy for the future, as I understand it: There is ONE uni-sex costume in the pack (or possibly two, depends on what the Devs decide to do). The Female avatars just get additional bits (like skirts, bustiers, etc.) that only make sense on Female models. They aren't getting an additional, completely separate costume set.

We're talking about a genre where the majority of people where spandex. I know I've seen male superheroes wearing tutus before.
I agree. Going on numbers alone, there are 9 unisex options, 1 male-only hairstyle and one female-only hairstyle, plus 3 metallic dress options (top, skirt, shoes) for females. That's 13:10 female to male costume pieces, and it's within reason.

Seeing as how they have come out and said that's not what they are doing, I think you might want to rethink your argument. Just saying I'll go by what the devs say and not what forum posters claim. YMMV.

I have no real complaint with that split. I have more concern with how many more packs like the Carnie pack they will release. Porting that sash, and the clock belt are things that could be done, but from what I gather at Zwill's response that is not a priority.

When did I ever say I was complaining about the Pocket D pack?
You want to know my complaints? The fact that they made a female-only Carnival of Light pack at all is a start. That they're giving females just about all of the previously male-only costume pieces from the Magic, Steampunk and Gunslinger packs and giving males exactly nothing is a pretty obvious one too.
There are costume options that females have had for years that shouldn't have been kept from males. The female headbands and even tiaras are largely plain and wouldn't be out of place on males as circlets. Females have those nifty cloud and dragon bracers and padded gloves that have no reason to be limited to one gender. Shoulder kitties and pandas (and add the damn parrot that the ghost pirates get already), anybody? Girls have a lot of "tops with skin" and "bottoms with skin" options that males don't get access to (excluding the obvious things that they don't want us to have, like corsets and bikinis).
... Heck, I could even think of a few uses for the regular skirts to make costumes for space aliens, though I wouldn't expect those to ever get ported to males.

I don't know why Dink thinks she's not as sexy as Jay was. In 5 posts she's already upstaged his entire career.

ANYWAYS. You get us some male carnival masks for the Carnie pack, and skirts, hats, and belts for the CoT pack, and you'll sell two more.
If the Paragon Studio slave drivers let you.

In all seriousness though I wouldn't have any issue with some of those things ported to men. I just don't think it's worth complaining about, when the majority of people are fine with the direction the devs have chosen (the majority direction).
Not that you don't have a right to complain if you want.

This is why people are responding to you the way they are:
True enough. I'm annoyed over this change and the people saying I'm a whiny ***** for not liking this are just making it worse. Apparently parity is only required when boys get something new; when girls get something I just have to sit there and keep my mouth shut.
|
When the boys got something new and cool (gunslinger outfits) girls got saloon girl outfits, which is not - even though it is relevant to the wild west - particularly typical garb for gunfighters. People were upset about this because boys got to be badasses and girls got to be sex workers. Not just women but men as well complained (and several have spoken up in this thread).
Now that the badass pieces are being proliferated to female characters, you're complaining that female characters have some of the costume parts that male/huge characters had ever since the pack came out.
In other words, you didn't lose anything and you're complaining about not losing anything. The phrase "dog in the manger" is perfectly apt here.

For my part, I'm going to pony up for the Gunslinger Pack now (since I already have Steam Punk and Magic) and buy some extra points on the Paragon Market for future costume packs. My mouth is big enough that I ought to put some money where it is.
