What's going on!

So anyway, it's really not the first time that the french community is left alone, but in the past we've always had Avatea as a "backup" community manager (even when she worked on Tabula Rasa, she was hanging around the french CoX boards). And since they searched for quite some time before finding 7deCoeur, we're really wondering if we'll ever see a french community manager in the future. We have threads discussing the issue on our boards... but who cares?
I really wish this was Z's avatar sometimes.
Yep, he announced it a few weeks ago on the french board. He got offered a job somewhere else, and he took the offer. Now there doesn't seem to be anybody in the OCR that speaks a single french word, and even though most of the announcements are still translated, our WST thread hasn't been updated since december (and that's just an example).

There's a lot of questions surrounding the lack of a French Community Rep which I aim to answer soon. Your questions and concerns aren't unseen, I'm simply swamped at the moment.

Hey guys,
Just checking in to let everyone know I'm still alive and breathing, albeit pretty slammed this week. Right now I'm working on planning for the upcoming Player Summit, getting things ready for the new Assistant Community Manager joining us (more news on that in the coming weeks ), and other stuff I'm not at liberty to talk about yet. Yes, it's secret, and yes I'm an evil man for saying that. I'm checking in on things and reading the forums on a daily basis, but just in case you don't see prolific amounts of posting from me over the next few weeks, now you know why. I'll see you all on Ustream tomorrow morning! |
Any chance we could get some concrete information on location soon? Soon of us would need to request time off from work, buy plane tickets, etc ...

Thanks from here, too. Being one of the game's officially supported languages, you definitely need a French speaker on the OCR team. Even though I don't speak French myself, I'm glad to see that it's being addressed. Hey, War Witch is Canadian, doesn't she know someone?

Just to help, though, the regular rate for a single/double room is $109/$119 per night. Back in November, the group rate was $10 off, so that a single/double room was $99/$109 per night. Looking at their reservations site, though, there seems to be a nifty trick to getting an even lower rate. If you book 2+ weeks in advance and you're willing to prepay the room fee, you can get a 15% discount, which works out to $93/$101 for a single/double room.
Also, speaking of double room, if you're going by yourself, I highly encourage you to post a message somewhere here and try to get a roommate. I did it last time (woot, Ninus!), I'm doing it this time (woot, Hyperstrike!), and it's awesome. You get to hang out with someone who loves the game and get to know more than just passingly during the Pummit, your lodging fees are half what they would have been, and even if you hate their guts, it's only for one or two nights, because you'll be busy with other stuff pretty much all day. This is the best deal of all, and not just in terms of money saved.
Oh, and P.S., if you do go with a single room, they also have a "garden deluxe" room that costs the same as a double and is a bit bigger. If you have lots of $$$ to blow, they have some fancy schmancy rooms too, with amenities like a lounge area and such. If you get one of those rooms, call me. We'll hang out.

I have my flight and rental car booked, but I refuse to book my hotel until you have a contract and are able to give us a group rate code.
BTW, for anyone looking at rental cars, go through Hotwire. At the last Pummit I had a full-size car from Hertz for $17.95/day and this trip I'll have a full-size car from Alamo for $14.95/day. Looking at the rates I got through either the rental agency, the airline (packaging with my flight and using one of their reward partners) or from other conglomerate travel sites I'm going to be saving between $25.00/day and $35.00/day on the car alone. That's a very good savings over any other method I looked at, including the www.carrentals.com site.
The rates have fluctuated for the past few weeks between $14.95/day and $18.95/day on Hotwire, so just keep checking to see when you get the lower rate. I've seen it change rates several times in the same day.
I'm likely not going to make any commitments on rides this time since I think I got my schedules fouled up last time and missed giving someone a ride that I had committed to.
I've gotten it scheduled so that I'll be arriving just before 11 AM on Friday and I'm not leaving until after 6 PM Sunday evening, so I'll have a bit of extra time Sunday.
I'm already planning a Schaub's run Friday for lunch, and will definitely be doing another Holder's Country Inn run for Bacon Waffles either Saturday or Sunday breakfast. Other than that I'm waiting for Red Gren to find my Friday night Justice dinner venue.
Of course I'm mostly waiting for Zwimamacusernow to give the details for 100% nailed down venue, karaoke information, the Saturday schedule including the Saturday evening meal, etc.
Hopefully, the Saturday evening meal will include a real beef offering instead of the "beef" meal we got last time that had everyone at our table wishing they'd ordered the chicken. Well, Black Pebble may not have wished he'd ordered the chicken, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't what he expected it to be.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

If anyone from the L.A. Area is driving there, and doesn't mind a road companion, send me a tell please. Willing to split the costs for driving there and back. Plus a "putting up with Nephila for several hours in a car." bonus :P |

For what it's worth, I'm not sure if I ever publicly did this, but a HUGE thank you to TJ and to Ninus for shuttling my butt around last November. I didn't rent a car under the theory that I could always just hitch a ride or, worst-case scenario, catch the VTA bus or a taxi to and from anywhere I wanted to go. Thanks to the gracious butt-hauling services provided by TJ and Ninus, I didn't have to catch any busses or taxis.
So yeah... thanks!!!

Of course, by that time, we had sort of committed to it, so I'm sitting there telling Ninus, "Don't stop, just act like we know them. They'll be the ones on the defensive, thinking, 'Who ARE those people?' We can sell this."

I'll clarify what I meant about not making commitments on rides this time.
I'm arriving in San Jose shortly before 11 AM. If your flight is coming in no later than 11:30 AM feel free to ask for a ride. Be aware that my lunch plans are firm and I'm headed directly from the airport to the Stanford Shopping Center so that I can find a place to park, get my Fred's Steak sandwich from Schaub's and eat it in outside so I can enjoy the scenery (plants and women). Since most hotels won't do early check-ins (we know Dinah's Garden didn't allow it until 3 PM) I'm not in a rush to get to the hotel.
If there is a group of us going somewhere and I have room in my vehicle, feel free to ask for a ride, especially if it is for a meal outing.
If you need to go somewhere specific and I'm not otherwise engaged at the time, feel free to ask and I'll most likely be willing to give you the ride.
What I'm not going to do is commit to pickups and dropoffs at the airport at various times because I'm sure I'm going to get confused on what I've agreed to or who I've agreed to give rides. I've gotten too old and my memory has too many holes in it for me to keep things straight anymore.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
