Have you rerolled your main?
I wish they would implement a "restart" option--allows you to restart a character basically from level 1, picking new powersets and even a new archetype if you want, but hanging on to all of your badges.
We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)
My main is a Mind/Bubbler, remade her as a Mind/Kin on another server and as a VEAT redside on another server. Fun stuff.
Questions about the game, either side? /t @Neuronia or @Neuronium, with your queries!

With Dark Control looming on the horizon, I'm giving some serious thought to rerolling my main. She's currently a Mind/Rad controller with all her powers tinted dark purples or black. The powers weren't terribly important to the concept, though Terrify and Rad's debuffs suited it well, and power customization means a lot of things could be adapted to suit her backstory (oooh, spooky other-worldly entity!). After playing a Dark/Time on beta I think it would suit her just as well and be more effective... so now I'm left with the dilemma?
Delete and reroll? Transfer and reclaim the name? Just start a new character? What have other people done when they've bumped against this problem? Did your attachment to the character or the thought of redoing so many badges stand in the way? |

I personally have rerolled several characters when new powersets come out, including deleting my main at 50 - twice.
@Roderick
I've rerolled my main twice. Was Kat/SR Scrapper, rerolled to Claws/SR and then Kin/SR. The character was level 50 each time; I transferred the old one to a new server.

I love to remake my namesake, problem is he is founder of my SG.
It's also the reason i don't like to do a global handle/forum rename.
I don't really use him, but he is and will always be the leader of the SG, my 1st 50 and i think it's nostalgia that i'm holding on to him.

I've rerolled Dechs once. He used to be a Bots/FF, then became Bots/Traps.
After that, when I wanted Dechs to have new powersets, I came up with new names.
Marshal Kaison - SoA
Thompson Ninja - AR/EM Blaster
Just That Good - Time/DP Defender

I recently deleted my level 46 rad/poison corruptor, and rerolled him as a fire/dark blaster. My only regret was losing all those accolades, holiday badges and unlocks... oh, and not rerolling him sooner
I also deleted and rerolled my level 30 db/da scrapper awhile back, into a ba/sd scrapper.
I rerolled a kat/sr as db/sr when Dual Blades came out, but she was level 2 and just out of the tutorial so it wasn't a deal. If I were starting the game today, my ice/storm troller would be elec/storm, but I don't have any real desire to reroll her as such. Maybe create a separate one, though.
As for my main, no. I started from the concept of "she shoots lightning at her enemies" and landed on elec/elec blaster, which... yeah, that's about perfect. Closest I've come to rerolling is creating her Praetorian counterpart, an elec/elec dom.
Nope. Considering he has badges that are now impossible to get, I can't imagine ever rerolling him.

No and I never will. My mains are both the first hero and villain (respectively) that I ever created, they're staying put until the game goes away.
When Time came out I decided to roll another character based on my villain main (Bots/Dark) because Bots/Time fit the character much better (and time travel is a handy excuse for such things). I actually rolled a third one also that is a Beam/Time.

We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
sort of. when i first stated, there was some wierd login bug that wouldnt let me start with the rian i originally rolled. so had to reroll a nearly identical char(made his skin blue and changed his horns to ram horns) but other than that, no, rian is martial arts/sr, period. there would not be another powerset that would be what i want, even if they made a dragon epic at.
I won't reroll Ruby Dawn... or Cerise... or Rose... but I may, just perhaps, come up with a fourth Dawn sister, or maybe their mother... But no, I don't reroll or respec, ever.
Still, I'm intrigued by the idea of a Dark controlling power... hm...
August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.

I re-roll all of the time. I just find higher levels to be boring and stupid. I deleted my 11 characters ranging from 26 to 44 a month ago. My new character is 35 and I am debating keeping him and starting another or deleting him and starting another.
Yes Violet started as a blaster NRG/MM. I played it to fifty and just didn't like the blaster feel. I rerolled her as an Earth/Kin controller and couldn't be happier.
Not my main (although I did make a Praetorian version of her on Exalted who happens to use Beam Rifle instead of AR) but I did remake a character that was an homage to a LARP PC I used to play when Dual Blades came out. I did the same for a tabletop homage toon when shield def was released.

I've thought about it numerous times. When I first made him (my namesake) I knew nothing about the game beyond what "Statesman Sez" and what I read when I was making the character. I just wanted to make something that fit the concept I wanted to create.
Well, I chose a Scrapper because the book said it was the best at soloing (I had no idea if I would team or enjoy the concept of doing so). Being a Werewolf, Claws was a good choice, and I almost picked Regen because that seemed like a werewolf thing, but decided against it. I didn't want to be a "Wolverine clone" and get made fun of (Yes I was that green... this was my first MMO). So I chose Invul (nothing but silver hurt me, so I took no damage).
This was back in I-2. Since then over the various changes to the game, I have thought about changing him to that Claws/Regen I originally thought, to making him something more team oriented (I love playing Tanks and Brutes- and now that Brutes can start as heroes...)
But no. He's still there, on the same server. Part of that is from unrecoverable badges that I couldn't get on a new characer, part of it is stubborness on my part (I WILL make him work, even through I-5. Even through ED- though at the time that almost broke me, Thanks for talking me out of it, Kitsune9tails!!). He is my first, most beloved, character. I do tips on him almost every day as a 'guilty pleasure' to play him. Though through bad luck the RNG hasn't given him the 2 VR's he need to currently 'finish' him, I do trials on him from time to time and am saving the EMP merits, and if I get them... great!
Though I did reach a compromise with myself. There's a Lyc on every server. A 'path less traveled' so to speak. Every version of him I would have liked to make exists on another shard of existance. Some I've played a lot, others just a few. My Invul/Axe Tank that I transferred from Virtue to Exalted has recently hit 50 and I now have him at +3. I replaced him with a low level Titan Weapons/Invul Brute that I'll get to at some point and level up. With each incarnation that I develop, I in turn, build on his story. The original was rather limited, knowing little of the game world. He has since been turned into a werewolf during the first Haloween event when supernatural creatures ran wild and Salamanca(retroactively) was cut off (I came in after that event, but that would make sense since it would take him time to get some kind of control over himself). Where once he gained some control, he got help from one of my SG mates to keep from spreading his lycanthropy and use his powers for good (the original SG The Legacy Foundation we made in I-3 ties ourselves to the background of the Legacy Chain made during I-6+ with the introduction of the City of Villains, and originally the Midnighters). As the story progresses, I find more and more ways to tie him into the world this game creates, since when I created him, I had no clue about anything in this game.
I now have, on various servers, one that was recruited by the Dark Watcher and joined the Vanguard during the Rikti War, one that bonded with a Kheldan to save its existance (and the shapeshifting is conceptually... neat). The list goes on and on.
So to answer your question. Have I rerolled my main? Yes. However, I have not, and will never give up, the one and only Lyc that endeared myself to this game; and hopefully endeared myself to the players I spend time with under that name.
Lyc~ the philisopical werewolf.
"I play characters. I have to have a very strong visual appearance, backstory, name, etc. to get involved with a character, otherwise I simply won't play it very long. I'm not an RPer by any stretch of the imagination, but character concept is very important for me."- Back Alley Brawler
I couldn't agree more.
Yes. My main was a Broadsword/Regeneration scrapper. Now he's a Titanic Weapons/Willpower Brute. Gotta min that max, yo.
Willpower has become the staple of my melee characters.
Still, my Main Scrapper (who is pretty much my Main Character now) and my Main Tanker (whom Willpower would actually suit better than Stone Armor) maintain their original powersets.
In fact, Street Justice/Willpower would have suited my Main Scrapper better than it would have the Brute I made instead. But then I wouldn't have the Brute...
I have rerolled only one character. My Claws/Regen Scrapper. Why? I wanted him to have two knives instead. Dual Blades came out and BAM! Delete-Reroll-and-RUN!
But that's not my Main. That's my Mary Sue.
My Stories
Look at that. A full-grown woman pulling off pigtails. Her crazy is off the charts.
Last weekend I moved my main from Pinnacle to Justice so that I could remake him as a brute. I couldn't accept using the inferior version of a claws/sr character any longer and that free server transfer kept staring at me when I'd log in.
The new BZB hit 37 today and I've started reclaiming the buff accolades. When he hits 50, I'll begin the process of stripping the old BZB of his enhancements as I don't have the funds to replace 5 purple sets and the rest of his high inf build.
The only downside so far has been that endurance management is more difficult due to the way claws was changed when it was ported to brutes. Other than that, the higher base HP, higher base damage output and the taunt aura on evasion have all been very nice.
It'll be worth it in the end.
Also remade my first brute at 50 from em/fa to dm/wp.
And deleted a lvl 50 peacebringer. (I should have expected PBs to get something good one day...)
Be well, people of CoH.
I came very close to re-rolling Major Decoy, but I realized that I still hadn't used the name Major Distraction (which, if I remember correctly, I couldn't use at launch because it exceeded 15 characters) and decided "Well, I might as well make a praetorian version of Major Decoy instead."
With Dark Control looming on the horizon, I'm giving some serious thought to rerolling my main. She's currently a Mind/Rad controller with all her powers tinted dark purples or black.
