A moment of nostalgia...
...and it's barely been five minutes!
I logged a toon that I've not had out for a long time. Essentially it was a concept toon that became a placeholder for a not very exciting name. I just logged into it to see what it was about. It was in Outbreak. Suddenly I realised how much I miss the old training mission. I know why of course. I mean technically, the new one is far superior - it gets you through the whole thing in no time, a level and a half, a badge, a shop item, new enemies, contact with real signature heroes... But for me, and I dunno, maybe other vet players, Outbreak was a rite of passage; doing the hard yards for the Isolator, solo and just getting a "feel" for the character. Maybe running and button mashing and killing guys (who incidentally throw non-lethal rocks at you) and maybe... I don't think I did this every time... inventing a back story for the character. It's not quick, it often wasn't painless - sometimes a grind but not in a bad way. Sure we can revisit Outbreak via Ouroboros, but it's not the same - it's frenetic and there's a lot more going on and it's ultimately a lot less satisfying. When you had the two, then it made sense but now... I dunno. I'd just like to play the old Outbreak more than the Ouro one I guess. |

of course you can go to Oro and almost the same mission
Did you get booted right away? I logged into Galaxy the other day and got sent right to Atlas.
I do miss when they knew that, hey, the tutorial should TEACH YOU STUFF. Not leave that to a partially rail-roading arc looking at you Graves... that only starts at level 5...
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

The new "tutorial" may be more interesting, but that is just about the only way in which it is superior to the old one. It doesn't teach you anything beyond how to move and attack, and while those are the most simplistic of basics that you need to get going, I often feel as though the game is now talking down to me. I find it kind of ridiculous that you don't start learning about enhancements until...what is it? Level 10? At which point you'd better already know how. You don't learn how to level up your character until you're level 5 and have already done it four times? These are things that should be covered in the tutorial. Like they use to be.
Grrrr. Rant over.

So, kudos, on arguing against a new tutorial mission that was like what the player base wanted for years: short, sweet, fun, and no sweat to repeat.
"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill

There's a voice over in the tutorial that tells you how to level up.

The new tutorial may tell you how to train but it doesn't introduce you to a trainer until level 5. Does that make sense to anyone? In the old tutorial you dinged but couldn't train because there were no trainers. Your waypoint sent you back to Coyote who told you to pick a starting zone and told you who to speak to about training once you were there.
Now, though, because you actually train in the tutorial, when you arrive in Atlas Park you have no reason to speak to Ms. Liberty at all. Your waypoint is set to Matthew Haberdasheryhatmanguy (or whatever the hell his name is) and off you go to see him and get started on your first missions. During which you will probably ding again...except you don't know who to talk to because nobody has told you that yet. So, now you have to ask in the Help channel to get someone to teach you something you should already know if the tutorial was doing it's job. You can't even wait until level 5 because Twinshot doesn't unlock until AFTER you've spoken to Ms. Liberty and trained. At which point Twinshot sends you to Ms. Liberty...to learn to train. Derp.

Unfortunately I have to admit that since i21 launched my enthusiasm for creating new villains dwindled quite a bit. I can't put my finger on what I don't like about the revamped low level content- I definitely think the blueside treatment is a tremendous improvement. I just found the Destined One/Jailbreak angle much more engaging and as a result I have been playing any and all new alts blueside up until they reach level 20 and they can switch over to villain side.
On the contrary, I absolutely love the new redside content. We're actually getting plots and stories where we can take control, steal, kidnap, plot, and be all around bad. No more fighting snakes just for Arachnos, getting the shaft from our superiors, and treated like dirt until the very end of the game, where we prove to the world we're awesome just in time to team up with heroes for the rest of our career.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
The new tutorial is all flash and little substance.
That said, I haven't stepped foot in a tutorial, Praetoria and new one withstanding, since 2007. Isolator was just never that important to me. *Shrugs*

I can't say I miss the old tutorial. The long slow jogs down the street were painfully tedious after the first several dozen repetitions (from the old days when it was unskippable). It had a lot of information, more than new players were likely to absorb. I couldn't be bothered with the badge after the first few times.
The new tutorial is light on information, and it's so fast-paced and noisy and frenetic that I doubt if people learn what little is taught. I think the new one is very fun and cool the first few times, but the knowledge gap does seem problematic.

I miss the old Outbreak, sure. We had some good times starting up a new SG or making a new hero group with a special theme ... running Outbreak was our bonding mission.
However ...
Whenever possible, I skipped the tutorial. It was boring and tedious and long ... it wasn't worth the two large inspirations.
It wasn't even a good training mission. No one that I knew even read the long walls of text, most people left the tutorial still not knowing about Enhancements and how they worked!
So, I miss it for nostalgia's sake, and that particular training mission (in addition to the Ouroboros flashback version) would be nice to have just for "old time's sake".

It's an early mission in the Introduction to Ouroboros arc.

But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

Story-wise, the new tutorial ties in with the rest of the game way better than the old Outbreak one.

Outbreak was never that engaging so losing it was not that big of a loss (although it now kills the nostalgic feeling you would get when you do the Intro to Oro mission) but I always did like Breakout, the Villain tutorial. The new early Villain content is good but I find I miss good ol' Breakout.
I also agree BTW the new Tutorial is fun and exciting, for new players especially, but is barely a teaching tool.
