Until the art team of this game can provide infinite costume options there will always be someone out there who's not going to be completely satisfied with what they produce. *shrugs*

Interesting costume sets- I do like the style & will be interested in these when they come out, but I do have reservations. The Chinese New Year set looks spectacular, but that elaborate style again sacrifices interchangeability with other parts. I can probably come up with a reason to use the set as a whole for a special event, but can't see the pieces being mix-n-matched much.

I'd see much more use out of something simpler like a cheongsam (see Rian_frosdrake's posts.... just pick one of them... odds are it'll have a request for one).

Also.... not to open a can of worms... and I may have missed this... but any chance that the jeans are available for both sexes?

to figure out what I'd actually use these for

the puffy coat without sleeves might work well for SWAT body armor - I use a different coat right now but it is not really right for it

and the pants tied at the ankle look perfect for a scarecrow character

With the exception of the metallic skirt/top and strappy shoes, everything is for both sexes.

Please, begin to make unique parts for both sexes again under consistent themes. Between this Chinese Dynasty and the Sash/Carnival Costume packs, things are heading down the other extreme with just as passionate resentment building for those of us who value our male characters.
This covers my feelings in a much more constructive way than I would have put it.

Also I love the Chinese costumes!

Glad to see the devs have gotten over their resistance to more civilian-type costume parts. I am glad to hear that in most cases the female models are getting not just the 'girly' stuff, but the unisex stuff too. As to guys not getting unique stuff, that's cool. At least in the pocket D pack's case, ladies wear both dresses/pants, most guys only wear the shown male stuff, so that makes sense.

When will the next superhero costume pack be released?

You have the chance here to blaze a new trail by creating a character that ISN'T connected to some sort of previously existing superhero identity. I personally think that's amazing. It corresponds to a holiday, but its presence here is an opportunity to do something truly new with a character, without a handrail to guide you. I find that fascinating.

Side note: It sounds like someone on that art team needs some hardcore brony treatment.

The Chinese outfits are very Guild Wars, not that I have a problem with that. There are some Guild Wars outfits I wouldn't mind getting access to, despite my aversion to the over-abundance of armor in the game.

I like the Pocket D stuff quite a bit.

I'm sympathetic to whoever it was upstream that asked "When more superhero clothes?" but at the same time, I'm at a bit of a loss to come up with good ideas for what that means aside from the capes and spandex stuff we already have. I think I'm more interested in this kind of stuff, myself.

Aw, man, and I had such high hopes for those on my signature character...

Seriously, though, good to hear.

Awesome work on both sets, guys. Day One (or pre-order!) purchase on both for me. Really loving the look of the Imperial Dynasty gauntlets, should make for a great Street Justice character when used by themselves.

Their desire to do a golden/silver age pack should satisfy your need for "super hero" themed pieces soon, guys. We all have to wait our turn to blow paragon points on aesthetic additions.

I would like to see the silver reflective effect used on male spacesuits down the road.

I think it will have to happen before the devs believe it will happen.

I like the new options in general, though.

While I myself have numerous alternatively themed characters of all stripes, so to speak, that's hardly representative of the overall player community or the game's fundamental art direction. A Chinese New Year pack, in addition to the Martial Arts one, doesn't make up for the lack of variety for basic masks (mostly, it's just painted-on patterns, not proper domino-style) or the total absence of Batman/Space Ghost-style cowls, to name just two common superhero costume pieces that have been in demand for ages.

Also, as Chase_Arcanum points out, the more specific the design of a given costume pack, the less likely it will "play well with others". The Martial Arts pack was less ornate by comparison, but it proved to be extremely flexible, with players coming up with all sorts of unexpected combinations. This baroque design, although visually striking, doesn't complement the art direction of either the City of Heroes or Villains - unless an upcoming issue is going to feature some kind of new China Town zone (which could be nice, come to think of it).

You can see it brewing in the CoL thread. It is not to the crazy point yet, but I can see it getting there.

I think you'll be surprised at just how creative the players will be with the Chinese stuff

Do you have any examples of something that should be a male-exclusive item?

I totally called the Pocket D pack being one of the two they had planned to discuss this morning. The Imperial Dynasty caught me off guard though, that's a pack that I will definitely pick up.

He means that they need to continue to make unique parts for the male models just as they do for the female models. You can have an item like a coat that is still unique because of the button position, or by changing moderate things.

For the record, I am one of those people who could become very passionate about this issue.

Actually, I count on the player community's creativity whenever a new costume pack comes out, but there are always limits. The deal-breaker in this pack looks to be the hats. Unlike the helmets from the Martial Arts pack, which sensibly had a very basic, flexible design under more ornate add-ons, these seem locked in to a Wuxia look.
