Aye. Decided I'd see what these might fetch me:

Timing is everything and is simple as can be. Simply coordinate a time to make the trade and it's as simple as delete and create. The chances of someone grabbing a name within the 30 seconds of delete / create is very unlikely.

Names actually appear to be locked to an account for a short while after deletion. I held onto a name for a friend a couple weeks back and they were getting the character name in use error message even after I deleted the character. I however could still make a character with the name.

After a while the name freed up however, not sure how long it was. My guess is a couple hours.

But um, gl with your sale?

And THIS is the reason i hate Exiled server. People name camping, taking names they know 'belong' to others and selling them.
I got asked if i wanted to buy the name to my best toon, a name of a toon they knew i had, i just told him to gfys.

So, to all name campers and people trying to make a profit with this type of 'game play'.. Here is a BIG <BLEEP>ING MIDDLE FINGER!

So far as I can tell, Electric-Knight has the top bid so far. You're unlikely to get a better offer than that one.

Um, excuse me Dark Energon? Exalted isn"t that bad at all. It's a mix of my home servers liberty/guardian. Very active. Only one thing i do have to say is that we need to get our act straight in the global channel situation. other than that, Exalted is a great server. Guess you're the type that judges a book by the cover without reading it.

Largest and Most Active Group on Exalted! Daily Teams, events, raids, trials, task/strike forces! /chanjoin OOCIC - 7Servers, 20bases, 8 bases in top 100! - We have ventrilo and forums!

Id say overgeneralizing...
You are avoiding a whole server due to some players that are name camping.
Sounds like the same concept as people that avoid Virtue b/c of the RPing catgirls and avoid Freedom b/c everyone is looking for a farm or farming. Ive played on both of those servers for awhile now and never had a problem with either issue.

FWIW, the name-campers probably aren't even playing on Exalted since they're using up the character slots to reserve names. Such behavior is more a reflection of the CoH VIP population at large than that of a single server.

Not that I would play on Exalted either, but that's because I have serious concerns about putting my characters on a 'premium' server in a game with an evolving F2P model.

I agree with you on this one, one of the other PvP'rs took my main's name so I just have zero interest in ever playing there. Just the asshatness of that tainted the server for me. It happened to two of my other friends but they got their names back.

I have to agree. who would really want to move their main toon to Exalted (Freedon II) from their home server unless you decided to relocate I guess, maybe the server you are on just doesn't have the population the more popular servers do. While I did secure my main toons names there, I have no plan of transfering there, I only got them so no one else would get them O_o

As far as paying for a toon name, I guess it depends on how much you want it and for what reason... if you have no plan on going to exalted then tell them where to stick it

It's better to save the Mystery, than surrender to the secret...

It seems like I heard of this before on the forums but didnt think it was that big of a deal...

- people move around servers and use the same names of their main toons?
- if that name is used by someone else, it taints the playing experince?

Personally, I don't think it's disgusting.

As a person who cares for the names of their characters and yearns for certain ones, such as Hero, you'd be suprised at the lengths some of us will and would go.

If you browse through the 'Virtue Name Watch' thread and happen upon asking for a name from someone, this comes up quite often. It's just as if someone wanted a PvP IO. Someone has it. They put it out there. You bid/do something for it. You get it. Easy as pie.

Anyways, I'm just saying.

Did you miss the part about someone getting a name on Exalted, and then contacting someone who uses that name on another server, to try to SELL them the name?
You don't see anything sleazy in that?

Because that's what people complained about - not that someone else is USING their 'favorite name'. The issue is that people get the names with the specific intention of holding them for ransom.
