What about rare items like some level 53 Hami's? There are a couple that there could very well only be a few of in circulation, maybe one, maybe none. Does that mean that as soon as someone decides to respec out of one that they should be obligated to give it away for free?

Seemed like he was talking about the 'sanctity' of names, in that you can only have each name once on each server, which means that there are only 16 (?) servers, so a given name is only available a total of 16 times. I thought the implication he was making was that it was "wrong" to sell names because each one can only be had so many different times, and they were not something that "more" could be produced of, which lead to my point that many rare high level HamiO's were in the same boat, if not even harder to obtain, and if that meant that he found it disagreeable to sell those also.

You're assuming he sells level 53 Hami's. What's the phrase there? "Facts not in evidence"?

But even if he did, if he were to sell a level 53 Hami that he bought on the market, anyone else could acquire it the same way he did. The cheaper method obviously doesn't apply, but it doesn't matter because the cheaper method specifically applies to something that is currently available in-game, and you moved the goalposts to something that can no longer be obtained through gameplay means.

Except that even the most rare items are still in technically unlimited supply. Names are unique (or at least finite).

Items like this (sought after items) are sold on this board very typically. I have seen people selling high level Hami's on the board which cannot be acquired through gameplay, just like names- In fact, it stands to reason that names can be acquired through gameplay, by making a point to get the ones you want before others get them.

I'm just wondering what the difference is. I initially pointed out that selling names for inf was just like selling any other in game item. People argued that because names are limited in quantity, ie: each name once per server, that it was not the same thing as selling other items for inf. I retorted by pointing out that there are items (high level HamiO's) which are no longer obtainable in game, thereby making them more scarce and nonrenewable than names, that are sold for inf and no one seems to have a problem with that.


Nope. There is no way to generate more high level HamiO's than are presently available, much like specific names.

Actually, there is that suggestion. When I Burnt the Toast says, "If people are so sensitive as to their names..." it could be inferred that he thinks some had their name (forum/global/name on all other servers/etc) taken and were "fall[ing] for this scheme" of selling it back.

I'm not defending anyone, nor the practice of selling names, just stating what I think.

Not sure what you're implying, I was just making a clarification based on his wording as Mousedroid suggested.
