Beware:NERDS ARE THE WORST FANS!!
Aliens, much like alcohol, are the cause of and the solution to, most of life's problems.
so, years ago (these "monuments" have been known about for quite awhile), the theory was that the features on these monuments were Caucasoid, and that it pointed to western european explorers visiting south america much sooner then previously thought. or that the south americans had encountered western europeans "somewhere". we make pretty hefty assumptions on our historical accuracy even in times when records were not kept, and we do not easily let them go (faster then light particles??? no wayz!!!!). it's quite possible that the cultures that excelled at exploring were doing it much sooner then assumed..... but that would mean someone would have to change a text book or two, and that's just too much work!
Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.
screw your joke, i want "FREEM"
I don't think the question should be if alien races exist, but if they have the technology to come here.
"Samual_Tow - Be disappointed all you want, people. You just don't appreciate the miracles that are taking place here."

Looking at humanity from the perspective of geologic and evolutionary timescales, our species' technological progress over the past 100 years has been mind-boggling. In a single human lifetime we progressed from the first powered aircraft flight to putting a human being on another stellar object. We haven't yet developed FTL travel, why should we assume that we've been beaten to the punch?

That's something I've been thinking about lately. Why do we assume that if there are aliens they must be orders of magnitude more technologically advanced than we are? It took our planet, serendipitously placed within a 'Goldilocks zone' around our sun with a fortuitous variety of natural mineral resources, somewhere on the order of 4.5 billion years to produce a sapient species. 95% of our species time on the planet has been spent hunting and gathering.

Also, look at all the mass extinction events our planet has experienced. Had something like the KT event not happened, there could've been sapient lizards here rather than sapient apes. Each one of those pushes the timeframe back.
While it may have taken 4.5Ga to get to us, it's only been roughly 500Ma since the trilobytes were scuttling around the sea floor.
'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

That doesn't mean EVERY alien species in the universe would necessarily be more advanced than us, but some of them would be. And if we encounter any aliens, it would be the more advanced ones, since the less advanced ones can't get to us, and we certainly can't get to them. Yet.
How can you all be so dismissive? Look at this quote from the article:
"I certify that this monument presents no characteristics of Maya, Nahuatl, Olmec or any other pre-Hispanic civilization," he wrote. "It was created by an extraordinary and superior civilization with awesome knowledge of which there is no record of existence on this planet." The dude CERTIFIES it! It MUST be true! |

I can totally see why aliens are more interested in our livestock than us. They aren't scientists coming to gather data, they're interstellar food critics.
