Yes, you are correct. The updated download did not trigger Symantec and the staff fighting is slottable now.

And you all rock for getting staff fighting done so fast.
  2. Got a virus pop up and quarantine from this. Id'd as Bloodhound.Sonar.9

Not going to try to download again since I really shouldn't be playn on Mids at work anyway, but I'd appreciate it if someone addressed this and let me know.

    Eye of the Storm

Can anyone suggest a staff/ build that does not use eye of the storm?

Here is a video of my new staff brute using eye of the storm and I just don't think it is very effective for my play style.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE-Esi3dGw8

Seriously though, do you think I can have enough AoE without it?
  4. I already was not sure about the whole idea of the umbral wolf. It just seems too specific and I couldn't think of a background for the character that I liked. But before I got to level 20ish, I teamed with some higher levels and could not stand the sound.

    Rerolled Fire/Dark.

Now I already have a Fire/Psi which is one of my 5 mains (hahah) and it would seem that they are similar, but I'm building the Fire/dark to be more single target oriented.

At level 32 my DARK MADNESS is still going strong.

The actual peak chain, according to NoChain, is Smite/Gloom/MG, Smite/Gloom/Drain. Specifically, the 4-chain, even with gaps, is 139 DPS. The 6-chain is giving me 142 DPS.

But NoChain doesn't have any way to take non-damage procs into account, and I have the Superior ATO in MG. So the shorter chain, even with a slightly lower base DPS, is going to end up being better overall because I'm going to have more time with a full 3-stack of +Dmg.

That build has 85% global, plus Hasten and Agility. And the 4-chain still has small gaps in it. So I think that, overall, Dark Assault continues to scale with recharge until a bit past perma-Hasten. If you're building for high-recharge, with the ATO proc in MG, then the best chain is basically the DM chain, with Gloom instead of Siphon, and you just eat the gaps.

If you're not running permaHasten levels of Recharge, then you're going to fall back on the 6-chain, since it's gapless at much, much lower levels of +Rech. (In my build, I can turn off Hasten and Agility, and the 6-chain has a total cycle gap of less than a quarter second. And at that level, Dom isn't perma, and I can't imagine anyone that's enough of a tweaker to care about chains that isn't going to be building for permaDom, so just assume that the 6-chain is gapless on any high-end build.)

ETA: I just tweaked that build a bit, because in a post-converter world there's no reason not to have Hecatomb in Smite. The extra proc and the extra recharge tightened up the chain to the point where the 4-chain is flat out superior, even without factoring the ATO proc. Yeah, you can't get enough +Rech for Smite to recharge through Gloom, but those three attacks are so *massively* better than all of your other available filler that you'd rather suffer the gap than use a filler. As long as Smite is fast enough to recharge through MG, the gap after Gloom can't hurt you enough to make you want Drain or Blast.
    Thank you for posting this.

Practically speaking, I really am loving the dark assault, this chain even with my current sub-decent recharge gives me a great flow for throwing in my controls.

So yeah, if you compare only the old movies that anyone cares about enough to still watch or remember, to all of the new movies coming out, it will appear that movies today suck. Because you've already weeded out all the old movies that suck. That's just rose-tinted nostalgia. If you want to have an actual argument, compare the ENTIRE list of movies that came out in some 5-year period to all the movies in the last 5 years.

The recent TRON movie, by the way, although not great, is miles better than the original, in my opinion, having seen the original before the new one came out.
I agree with the rose-tinted nostalgia point. As John Updike said "In memory's telephoto lens, far objects are magnified." Same in any genre. if you listen to an 'oldies' radio station, they typically only play things that reached some threshhold of popularity.

Also from more personal experience, being a lifelong city boy, I love Westerns. I've watched soo soo many, and honestly, many completely suck. Many could be compared to the Michael bay effects over substance, though with simpler speeding up or slowing down of the camera to make gun duels look cool.
  7. The other big factor is the epic/patron pools. Still a hard choice there. Scrapper can get Shadow Meld. slotted, ridiculous incarnate trial level def half the time.

Brute can get gloom and some -tohit that effectively makes your already good defense better.

I debated this a lot before rolling a scrapper. I just wanted more of a boss killer this toon. Overall your damage will be close, but scrapper will pull ahead on bosses according to my calculations on mids. I've only played the scrap tho, so I can't compare in first hand Xp.
  8. I'd probably pull the Makos out of one or two of your low damage attacks and put those in quick recovery and Stamina. (2 slot em both looks better in Mids than 3 in quick recovery.)

Then Musculature Radial, the one with end mod, will get you over 100% on those powers.

I know that makes those attacks a little low on accuracy, but you have focused accuracy.

In the alternative, you could 2 slot hasten. You already have a decent regular attack chain and except for Spring Attack you dont have much that is a really long or important recharge.

That should get your end to a managable level.

And if you still need more get 1 end mod slot in physical perfection.
  9. I see you are trying to get decent defense in several areas. If you are going to team a lot that is often going to be fine since you will probably have other people with def buffs. Stacked up. I'd go for s/l soft cap, which is not hard with these sets, if you solo more.

The big thing that could be much better about your build is Follow-Up.

The reason claws is so good with SR and Elec is because of the added global recharge from lightning reflexes and whateveritiscalledinsr.

This helps you have your +dmg buff from follow-up stacked for a often constant +60% damage.

I'd also consider whether you want hasten in your build. This adds to the follow-up thing, but also for elec, this lets you have energize on or close to perm. It is a heal of course, but note how much regen it provides for 30 seconds.

my SS/Elec sits at 500% regen constantly. (for comparison, that's almost what a regen is at with 3 slotted SOs, albeit before bonuses).
  10. Sete Sardu was born to a Romani family in Sardinia in 1810. She was born with regenerative abilities, blue skin, and a tail. Sete’s limited pyrokinetic ability only developed in puberty.

Sete began a career in the circus at an early age. Many acts contrasted her ‘demonic’ appearance with her talent for music, languages, and poetry.

A long running act had her playing somber sounding arrangements on piano that would allegedly take your soul if you listened too long (which of course got patrons in and out to the next act quickly).

Another common act was to have her emerge from ‘Hell,’ a false floor in the stage and leap around the stage menacing the audience. The band conductor would yell some magical sounding gibberish in her direction and they would then play a song to appease the demon. Sete would let her flames die down and begin playing violin with the band.

Sete only became a super hero when the circus business began to decline. She typically is armed with swords or bows which she heats for added effect.
  11. Some tweaks here and there.

Some reasoning: Having much practical XP with /fire brutes, though admittedly little with StJ, it still seems like a build that can struggle for end. So I made tweaks trying not to loose much of the recovery you had slotted.

I really think you will not be able to run focused accuracy constantly, so I unslotted much of it.

    I got Smash/Lethal to 45%.

I'd want firey embrace 3 slotted, but I couldn't find the slots.

I really wouldn't skimp on your S/L resistance so I found slots for fire shield.

I also think you will have better end mgmt by cutting 20 secs of consume.

  12. Looks pretty solid. The only thing I'd suggest, is to up your regen some since you lack a self heal. With that Spiritual boost, plus some serenedipities and the LotGs you already have you can get it near 275% wihtout changing powers any. and slotting some of the procs in health.

Also you are underslotting Combat Training Def and Foresight. They give bigger defense boosts than the other def powers you have. Note that part of mask presence's boost is suppressed when attacking. The totals tab in mids is correct for hidden, incorrect for attacking; the info tab is correct.

    I'd call him

    Marshal Matters

Marshal as a verb means can mean to arrange things.

Matter, well you're talking about Matter and engergy, but matters makes it a funny pun with a lame rapper's given name.

The part I agree with is especially re: tankers. I just don't see them like I used to. I see brutes almost always fulfilling that role.

In fact, I see a lot of scrappers 'tanking.' But this is not solely due to what a scrapper can do, but the fact that with Incarnates and inherent fitness (leading many teams to have multiple people with leadership pool) so many of the traditionally squishy ATs are a bit less squishy and a scrapper, may not be able to hold aggro, but only really needs to take alpha.

I personally, tend to look at the ancillary pools a lot when choosing between brute and scrapper.

Honestly, all the proliferation has kept me playing, but I do hate to see any AT be obsolete.
  17. I think for all media the point is to entertain. That is a broad thing and as others note, is very subjective.

Some etymology is helpful here. You know what entertain means, but it comes from old french, to hold together. And the meaning still holds true if you think about it. What entertains might be fun, scary, funny, or move other emotions, but if it doesn't hold your attention, it will fail as media.

That is not to say as art. I think that many would agree that people with a profound appreciation of art often admire works that never reach mass appeal.

Roger Ebert (the movie critic) once wrote a blog saying that video games could not be art. In his response to the initial blog by his estimation of "4,547 comments" "300 supported [his] position."

I certainly agreed with the overwhelming majority. Video games can be art. It was an embarassing thing for him to say. It confused objective 'art' with subjective 'art I like.' Games have all the components of various media considered art forms, including Ebert's own, writers, visual artists, actors.

But I did agree with some comments that some games may only be for entertainment and did not try to be (intent argument) or result in being (objective criteria argument) art.

  18. The upcoming Smithsonian American Art Museum's Art of Video Games exhibition now has a flickr group that might be a good place to send in some of the artwork here.

  19. My new origin story for my katana/WP scrapper on Freedom. Her name just means 'star' in Nahuatl. It has no significance to the story. I just liked the way it sounded. Per my research, most Mexica did not have last names.
    ___________________

Citlali (seet lah lee) is one of the last of the Mexica, the tribe often mislabeled Aztecs. To be clear, there are many descendents of the Mexica living, Citlali however was born in 1501.

Citlali was the only daughter to a father who was a shipwright in Tenōchtitlān (now Mexico City). Citlali would have happily followed in her father’s footsteps if not for the invasion by Spanish troops in 1519. In just a few years, through disease and some fighting, most people Citlali knew were dead.

Citlali’s long life has allowed her to be a fighter for oppressed people across history. She has fought in most of the wars of Independence from European powers in the Americas, Asia and Africa. Departing from the hierarchical society of her birth, she has supported numerous communist revolutions.

Until ‘mutation’ was understood, she was always thought to be magical. While she has not submitted to formal testing, she obviously has regenerative capabilities and can move at extreme speeds. Though she does have claws and fangs, she has typically used whatever weapons were available.

Citlali has actually been captured in some of the wars and executed at least 5 times that she can piece together. She seems to need only a few intact cells to completely regenerate, though one cremation did cause her to loose what memory she had not enshrined in journals and scrapbooks.

Good idea: Remembering to turn on your toggles before jumping in a bunch of mobs.

For the former, you can do something like a Fire/Trick Arrow Controller, an Ice/Fire/Fire Dominator, a Stone/Fire Brute (plenty of knockdown potential there), a Plant/Storm Controller, etc.
I'd say Ice/fire Dom. You get an Ice Slick (with a longer cooldown iirc) and Combustion, which feels a lot like Burn.

Now,for the alpha.....i thought going spiritual,to attain almost perma power siphon and energize. The thought of using power sink offensively occured to me,but didn't realize i could use musculature for that. So now i'm thorn: recharge and healing,or damage and end drain. Come to think of it,the new agility could give end drain and recharge too.....i must reflect upon that
I hear you. I would add, in case you have not taken it before, that Shadow Meld just makes you look kinda like a Dark Servant, just a black cloud. It doesn't have a patron symbol on it like many of the patron sheilds do (I find that harder to RP away myself).
