Hi all, we know this update is much desired. Diellan is away for a couple days, but he's been hard at work at it and wanted to try to get it out ASAP, so here it is!

Mids’ Hero/Villain Designer 1.956 - April 2012

New features:

  • Staff Fighting!
  • Phase One of Incarnate UI change: We are in the process of changing the UI for Incarnate powers, moving the toggling out of the popup and down into the main page (the popup is still used for selecting the powers). The Incarnate powers are improperly being affected by global buffs.

Fixes & changes:
  • Fix to debuffs affecting players.
  • Fix to Street Justice numbers.
  • Post-I22 updates to Dark Control.
  • Updated Archetype Enhancement proc numbers.

Known issues:
  • Windows Vista and Windows 7 have issues with the updater due to UAC interfering with writing to the Program Files folder. Many of these problems can be resolved by (a) installing as Administrator, (b) running Mids as Administrator, or (c) installing Mids to a location other than the Program Files folder.
  • Diminishing Returns for PvP mode have not yet been added; all buffs currently show their full, unmodified values.
  • The Power Graphs for the current build do not display effects for pseudo-pet powers like Ice Storm. This does not affect the Powerset Comparison, which is now fully aware of pseudo-pets.
  • Power Boost affects some powers that should ignore its buffs, such as Ice Shields.
  • Temporary and Accolade powers are not being affected by buffs such as recharge rate.
  • Some powers are enhanced by HOs that shouldn’t be (like Active Defense’s Res(Def))

EDIT: 1 minute in and I find a bug. Not a huge bug, but a bug nonetheless. I made a mock up build for my staff stalker using kinetic melee and when I tried to swap it to staff I lost the ability to choose 8 powers. And when I can choose powers, IO's aren't available.

PS: Err, is it just me or I can't put any IO set on staff fighting powers ? Tested with a scrapper.
The database editor seems to work for this, though.

Yep, looks like the IO sets are missing for Staff. That's what happens when you rush things out without proper testing I guess.

Anyway, I have it fixed locally, should have an updated database up soon.

It works! I'm pretty happy about that -- Diellan normally does this, so before today I had absolutely no idea how the auto-updater thing worked.

Anyway, do 'Check for Updates' and it should prompt you to download a new database -- this has the fix for IO sets in Staff.

At some point in the future we'll do a full installer with this DB included; probably the next bug fix release.

Seems the Update breaks Mids'. After downloading and restart, the error message says that the file couldnot found.

Hmm, it seems that recent installs of Mids are missing the helper program that does the database updates... It worked on my older copy, but not a fresh install with deleting everything first.

UPDATE! I rolled a new package and updated the link in the OP -- if you're having trouble with the automatic update please grab that and install it. Thanks for bearing with me, folks.

Critical Issues:

- Attempting to move powers (i.e from level 20 to level 22) causes the AT powersets interface to crash.

Major Issues:

- Cardiac and Resilient increase damage as well as damage resistance.
- Powers can be taken from different powersets. Selecting a different powerset no longer resets power selections.
- Musculature and Intuition increase global damage as well as modifying enhancement bonuses, causing double damage benefits.
- Nerve and Vigor increase global accuracy as well as modifying enhancement bonuses, causing double accuracy benefits.

Minor Issues:

- Lore, Judgement, and Destiny accept slots. The only way to remove the first slot you put in is by deselecting and selecting the power again.
- Judgement is affected by global damage buffs.
- Incarnate powers are affected by global recharge buffs.
- Pre-Emptive interface reduces self recovery.
- Diamagnetic interface reduces self ToHit and Regen.
- Gravitic interface reduces self recovery.
- Reactive interface reduces self resistance and lowers displayed values for base damage(total damage is unaffected).
- Paralytic interface reduces self damage and defense.
- Spectral interface applies self -immob.
- Secondary(non-damaging) effects for interfaces all display a 100% chance to activate.

Not going to try to download again since I really shouldn't be playn on Mids at work anyway, but I'd appreciate it if someone addressed this and let me know.

SONAR is their automated "unknown" threat profiler, and has been terrible with version 12. Rendered a few custom internal applications useless where I work.

You guys are awesome tyvm for this. Found one minor bug Overload from Energy Aura there is no button to turn it off and on(for scrapper not sure about other ATs).

Yes, you are correct. The updated download did not trigger Symantec and the staff fighting is slottable now.

And you all rock for getting staff fighting done so fast.

Hooray for the update! And the update to the update!

However, I'm having some... interesting issues...

First of all, any time I open a build, if I go to open a different build, it gives me the, "Current hero/villain data will be discarded, are you sure?" dialogue box. Normally, that only shows up if I touch any powers/enhancements/etc.

Secondy, selecting Accolades makes them replace Brawl. For example, when I open up my main, instead of Brawl, I have Freedom Phalanx Reserve. If I double click the Accolades button, and deselect that, it becomes The Atlas Medallion instead of Brawl, then Task Force Commander, and finally Portal Jockey. Unselecting them all returns Brawl. Selecting any Accolade will overwrite Brawl with that Accolade.

This happens even on characters who had no Accolades selected.

Finally, Staff Fighting seems to be applying the buffs for Form Of The Mind and Form Of The Soul to all powers, regardless of what Form I have selected when I "turn on" a Combo Level. Selecting either one and then a Combo Level reduces the Endurance Cost and the Recharge Time. Form Of The Body, however, seems to have no effect on Damage.

For the record, when I click on About, my version info is as follows:

Program Version: 1.955
Game Issue: 22
Database Version: 22.1 (20/Apr/2012)

I downloaded the update from the web this morning, and then after installing it, letting it run, and finding those issues, I closed it, then re-opened it, and it did a web update. I just downloaded the 1.955a installer, and I'm still having the same issues.

That doesn't surprise me too much. This was actually a fairly bad time for a release, but we wanted to get it out there so that people could at least work on slotting for Staff characters. Besides the Incarnate UI (which looks like it has borked accolades), we're also in the process of transitioning to a different way of representing the power data -- one that more closely represents the way the game sees it. So there are no doubt still some issues related to that.

I'll try to get some of the bug reports rounded up on a known issues list.

I'm getting (multiple) errors when trying to install mids from the website.

When installing the error I get is:

Error opening file for writing:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Titan Network\Mids Hero Designer\Hero Designer.exe <---The bolded part is replaced for almost every file in the download

Click Abort to stop the installation
Retry to try again, or
Ignore to skip this file

Close Mids if you have it open. If you don't, check Task Manager and see if there is a zombie Hero Designer.exe running, kill it if so.

Or just be lazy and reboot before installing

This has kind of borked Mids for me.

-Procs have stopped counting against me (like the achilles heel -20% res) but they are still turn onable.
-Swapping power placement now blanks the power insertion bit.
-It isn't showing the full UI for enhancements any more.
-On some builds, it is showing 800-900% recovery,

Perhaps I'm missing something reading through the thread, but every I load a build with Staff it erases all the power picks and slots from Staff.

Any thoughts or smacks to the head for being a knucklehead? :P

Controller-Darkness Affinity-Soul Absorption: The 100% regen and 50% recov on is scaling with the number of enemies when only the 18.75% regen and 9.38% recov should be scaling. The target limit is 10 when it should be 16. Accuracy is currently not being displayed.

edit: scaling has resolved in new version, target limit and accuracy display have not.
