Ordinarily I can do that, but it gets annoying when the series starts breaking its own rules for no apparent reason. Like Daryl's motorcycle. The single loudest vehicle in all of post-apocalyptic Georgia, yet they're worried about a SINGLE gunshot attracting a herd of zombies.

I personally will be riding my 10 speed Huffy once the zombpocalypse hits. A little oil here and there and Ill be ghost biking around town like a ninja.

Re: the motorcycle.
They were on the move. They weren't expecting to stop for any real length of time, or at the very least not to break down on the interstate. They would far outpace any deaders before they could zero in on the bike's noise. Once they were stopped, the prospect of making extraneous noise when they know there was at least one herd around became a bit more dangerous.
Silly? Yes. It was naive to think there wouldn't be traffic jams on there, especially when they passed a massive one on the way out of Atlanta.

At any rate I thought things like T-Dog practically cutting his arm off by rubbing up against a car door was far more dumb than the motorcycle in this episode.

What about the fact that the herd suddenly couldn't smell food 2 feet away when we had already had an entire episode about their sense of smell? That's the part that bothered me the most.
your = Belonging to you.
you're = Contraction meaning "You are."
Ur = The name of an ancient Mesopotamian city.

In this new episode, it could have been the zombies were heading in a diffferent direction until they heard the motorcycle and then began making their way toward the sound (or not). Its the first thing I thought of...but I tend to overanalyze things.
Either way, it doesn't take away from how much I enjoy the show, but I thought to myself that I wouldnt take any risks that werent worth taking if it was me and my family in that situation.
An additional point of contention...if T-Dog (lol, great name for a black guy I suppose) was bleeding like animal, how come the zombies didnt "sense it/smell it" or whatever it is they do?

My only vague guess as to why the zombies didn't smell the live people was that there were plenty of dead people in the cars around them. The stench from that might have been enough to cover the live smells. For instance when Daryl and T-Dog hid underneath the dead bodies that seemed to be enough to cover them.
Maybe if they had made more of a point about how bad all the dead bodies smelled before the herd got there the whole thing would've made more sense. *shrugs*

Finally just got around to watching it. I liked it but hated it at the same time. Hated in that it annoyed the crap out of me with the use of tropes. Now normally I don't mind tropes because despite people jumping on them they are in most cases used sparingly and the only places you see them in large volume are parodies.
Except in this one we had the
Vehicle breaking down at the worst possible location (blocked road)
Herd of zombies happening to come across them just as they were broken down. Thousands of miles of highway and these zombies just happen to be wandering along theirs right as they break down.
Child making a noise that attracts the enemy.
Somebody dropping something that attracts the attention of the home (motorhome) invader just as they are walking out the door.
Somebody injuring themselves severely and rendering themselves pretty much helpless while trying to hide from the bad guys.
Multiple cases of people tripping over nothing as they are running away.
The rustling in the brush turning out to be a cute animal... which lures somebody into danger.
Like I said, normally tropes don't bother me but I found myself talking to the characters saying stuff like "Ok, now fall down and scramble frantically along the ground." "Ignore the bell, it's just the wind ringing it or something like that." "Stay away from the deer or you're gonna die kid." and then watching a version of what I said happen immediately afterwords.
I'll still watch because I liked last season so much but I'm expecting the following to happen this season.
They will see a helicopter and run out into a clearing to wave at it. At which point people in the helicopter will open fire on them.
They will shoot a zombie from a distance only to find out that it was a living person who had been on the run and injured.
They will add an attractive young woman to their group. And she will lure them into a zombie attack for some reason. Most likely to lure the zombies away from the building her sister is trapped in.
Some sweet little kid they find will turn out to be sociopathic and evil and have psychic powers...
Ok, maybe not that last one.
Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!
This sounds like a case of trope over-analysis. Every story in existence uses these, and since it's a horror/drama the tropes will tend to clump up along certain axes.
The second season has some issues, but I don't think overusing tropes is the main cause. The writers just need to be more consistent about the rules they set up (can zombies smell or not... are they attracted to loud noise, etc.).

Despite that there are some moments that are good and interesting about this show. The basic premise is sound and it has a lot of room to work into something cool. Granted there are also some moments that are mind-numbingly silly as well, but like most things everything is relative. For instance I'd rate this show, for all it's faults, about a zillion times more enjoyable than Terra Nova.

For what it's worth I've never really "raved" about this series. If you ever read my comments about the first series last year you'd know that pretty well.

I say this having read the comic series up to the last hardcover, so I suppose I'd say this show is missing the key ingredient that made the comic so enjoyable for me. Essentially, it has no balls.
I'll continue watching in the hopes it improves. After all, I didn't think the comic started hitting on all cylinders until they settled in a location, but the way things are dragging along, I'm afraid they'll add so much that the series will burn out and get cancelled before they introduce key characters and events that made the comic so engaging.

I wasn't really referring to you. I just get a sense from all the attention it gets from the internet and the media that folks are buying into the notion that this is the "it" show now. And I can't figure why that is, beyond some of the makeup effects. It's not particularly well-written, directed, or acted, and most of the characters aren't very interesting.

For the record, I did think the first season was well directed and acted... the writing may have been a little lacking.
The second season may have some pacing problems (as well as the consistency issues mentioned above), but we're only two episodes in.

Again I don't think this is the best show ever made. But accepting the limitations it's having to deal with being on AMC I'm willing to cut it some slack. It's already far more interesting than most TV on the air now and as Mental_Giant said it's almost an "original" concept for a TV show, or at least as original as any TV usually gets now-a-days.
At the very least it'll be interesting to see how it ends up differing from the comic book. It may not prove to be "better" than the original story but it might prove to be worthwhile as a completely new reformulation of the story.

I liked it, the little things don't bother me, what does bother me is when I am watching a tv show or movie, my very logical husband that doesn't realize it's hollywood fanatasy has to nitpick the whole time and ruin it for me, and that's why I don't watch my shows around him or if he wants to watch them with me I tell him ok but shush.

Also, because it is such a big-budget show the network is advertising the hell out of it. That brings viewers and buzz. I've never heard of a non-sports show getting a half-hour post-show. AMC is pushing it hard, and that push is paying off for them.
I enjoy the Walking Dead, but I wouldn't put it above most network fare. I liked the halloween episode of My Little Pony much better. ("The fun has been doubled!")

Different strokes for different folks, but I think its a really great production. Some of it is what Mental Giant spoke about and also, at the end of the day, I enjoy a good drama. That part translates well from the comic for me; at the heart of the concept we all know its not a killer zombies "AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" show, but actually a look at the human condition in the face of a horrible, almost insane reality. Its all about people and interactions, whether they can live upto the ideal of how humans consider themselves to be so advanced and enlightened OR if they are nothing really more than animals once the the illusion of civilization is no longer present/enforced. THAT is the main part I enjoyed about the graphic novel, how does one "normalize" themselves and their surroundings in an abnormal environment that keeps throwing curve balls?
I have a friend that literally hates the show and stopped watching early in season 1, mostly because of episodes like this one where there was nonexistant zombie activity (until the last few minutes). Its easy for me to see that since hes more of a straight action genre type of guy, hes not going to enjoy the show as much as I do.
And 2short...I have the same problem as your husband, I can not watch poorly done military based shows/movies b/c I find myself getting pissed that someone couldnt consult the proper people to make it all a little more realistic. A few years ago, a civilian friend of mine told me I really needed to watch a show called 'Over There', a military/Iraq war drama. I stopped watching the second an episode came on where a 15 star General is giving orders directly to a Staff Sergeant and his "crew" for a low level tactical mission. It just doesnt happen like that. I imagine a lot of cops feel the same way about "police" dramas on TV. Since Im not a expert on zombies or the human experience, I can actually sit back and enjoy this show, but maybe it drives psychologists insane lol...idk.

Speaking of last night's episode: can we give up on Sophia yet?
Two days in the woods where we know random Walkers are stalking and she hasn't been found. I think she's gone. Which means her mother won't be around much longer either, by way of direct check-out or abandoning the group to search for her daughter.
I hate to say it, but I'm warming up to Shane... putting his life on the line for a chance to save Carl says a lot.

I don't think I've ever seen a crucifix in a Southern Baptist Church. There might be one out there somewhere, but I'm very doubtful.
Well, i love it. each week has me wondering how much everyone can take before they check out. Daryl is my favorite character. In a zombiepocalypse, he's who i would want watching my back.
I'm betting the girl is with the hunter's family and the boy will be the McGuffin for the first half of the series, needing to find a proper doctor or drugs for him.
As someone suggested it's possible that some chemical agent was used and that's what killed everyone on that highway. May have even been an accidental spill caused by a zombie (truck carrying chemicals jackknifes trying to avoid what the driver thought was a person in the road). Or it could have blown in from a train derailment, chemical plant, etc.
