it looks like a fun movie, you only confirm that for me Sho

Reviews have been fairly positive, but this still feels like a matinee watch if for nothing else off the vibe it's giving (fun/underdog story/scifi). I still need to see Drive first.

Thank you, City of Heroes, for giving me a superhero social network combined with amazingly smooth game play. Petitions signed with realistic expectations.

I really want to see Real Steel. The concept itself is unique and rather interesting.

Drive? Really? I dunno... I got a very bad vibe just from the commercials. It screamed 'YOU MUST LIKE ME! I'M THE NEW TRANSPORTER!'. I would like to know how it is, though... if anything... to see if it broke through my expectations.

So they managed to make a movie about Rockem Sockem Robots be a fun movie after all.

I was totally not interested but now I'm a bit interested. Thanks, Shonuff!

My first thought on this was "How the hell did they get Hugh Jackman to do a rockem-sockem robot movie" but the more I read everywhere the more I want to see it.

Although I might see drive first. It screams Transporter with angst but I am tempted.

Tanker Tuesdays & Brutal Thursdays. If you like fun, look'em up!

Shhh! Rangle is plotting.

The commercials I saw for this movie made me lose what little interest I had in it. Looked like a nauseating feel good family movie, like Free Willy with robots or something. Misleading marketing? Or is it really supposed to be a corny family movie?

Way to many alts.

It has family elements, namely the dad connecting with his kid, but far overshadowing that is robots beating the hell outta each other. You aren't seeing this movie for the family element, you are seeing it for the robots.

The only gripe I had with it was the product placement crap. Bing, HP, Sprint, Xbox720, Dr. Pepper, etc. Ya, ya, it's "realistic", but dammit, I hate seeing advertisements in stuff I pay for (don't get me started on cable).

Just got back from it. I really liked it, but then again, it had awesome robots in it, so there wasn't really any doubt about that. The second half is definitely weaker than the first, as it starts to trod familiar ground, but it still ends satisfyingly.

Saw the movie yesterday and loved it.

Today I went to Wal-Mart and guess what I saw?

A Rock'em Sock'em Robot set ... based on Real Steel!

Well considering how the studio "developed" the 55 year old short story, it was a natural product tie-in.

I saw this movie yesterday and loved it. The story has a good pace, the dad/kid parts are tolerable and I got to watch robots fighting without all the shaky cam blur motion crap. Go see it!

It does have broken family issues and also washed up hero issues but the robot action is really awesome.
It doesn't suck.

I have to say, "me too." At first this movie was very "meh not going to see it" but now the latest trailers seem like there's an actual story here...

Granted it may be a re-hash of a story we've all seen/heard before but...at least it's not just "rock-em-sock-em-robots"....

I loved this movie. If you liked the Iron Giant, you will too. It's like that, but with way more awesome fighting. The advertising wasn't even as bad as I'd expected based off reading this thread. The majority of it was in places you'd expect to see ads, like around an arena. The robot fighting was very well done and the robots looked great. I was very impressed, to say the least.

The only problem I have with this film in concept, haven't seen it yet and probably will wait until my local library gets the DVD, is they took a somewhat depressing short story/novelette and made it up beat and happy.

It would be like a studio taking any of the Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever novels or any of Greg Bear's end of Earth or mankind novels and made it up beat and happy.

Don't give Disney any ideas. Do you know how The Hunchback of Notre Dame ends in the book? <.<

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

Drive is almost nothing like Transporter. It's not an action movie at all.

Real Steel was good.

...or The Little Mermaid.

Real Steel may be distributed by Disney (Touchstone) but it was developed into a movie by Dreamworks.

Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots was a great movie. I was pleasantly surprised. It was Rocky + Over the Top + robots. I'll likely watch it a few more times while its in theaters.

How do you get both that much free time and that much money? I'm in the wrong line of work.
