Powers that bug you

those are the big ones

Do not ever give Mind Control a pet. We need more control sets without pets.
My characters are not "toons". They are all project characters, though.

I find most powers useful, even ones most people go "That needs to be pulled from the game." But sonic repulsion... I've tried to come up with some reason to use it. I've got several Sonic Resonance characters - two at 50. So I've had time to play with the set in pretty much every situation.
I actually can't think of a single time I'd use this.
The only use I can find for it is "I have more slots than I need, I can burn 2 or 3 and fit a Knockback set in here for 3 points of KB protection." As the *ONLY* real use. I've never had a time since Issue 5 where I thought, "Hey, I'd like to put some repelling rings on someone ELSE and have them do whatever and knock stuff away!"
Solo, this is useless. I can't put it on myself. As a Controller, I don't want to put it on my pets. Either that or I have everything immob'd, so it wouldn't do anything but cost END. As a Defender or Corruptor, I don't have anything to put it ON.
... actually, Masterminds MIGHT have a use for this, if pet AI were better, but even then there are better options.
If I could put them on ME, so I could corner some mobs and keep them there, it'd be much more useful. But I'd never want to put this on someone *else.*
Also, as far as bugging me... the entire Illusion set.
From the heal-back "Illusory Damage" to the twin Invisibilities (really? What were they thinking?) to the early-and-useless AOE hold to the easily-chased-from AOE Fear to the cornerstone "you WILL be building for recharge whether you want to or not" Phantom Army, the set just annoys the hell out of me. When I have to pick a secondary in order to *regain* some control (Trick Arrow, with a decent AOE soft control, immob, a hold to stack, etc.) there's something wrong.
Having played this game since inception, I just felt like addressing specific powers that have issues that seem so obvious that it downright irritates me. Feel free to jump in and contribute.

Dimension Shift/Black Hole/Sonic Cage/Detention Field - Dimension Shift & Black Hole in particular - Make them all toggles. The inability to 'turn them off' is the most problematic part of these powers, causing slowdowns as you wait *tap tap tap* for the intangible to wear off.
Snipes - *shrug* I always thought they should do more damage, to be worth stopping and using for that 'one shot' alpha strike. Oh well, it's a power I skip in leiu of something better.
Time Bomb - "Clone the Omega Maneuver and put it in it's place!" Very good idea, either that or I really liked someone's 'make it a toggle that explodes when you turn it off' idea.
Serum - *shrug* It kinda fits the theme of Mastermind powers having the 'not super useful, but it's something' level 18 power pick.
Dark Pit - I think giving it standard accuracy would go a long way to making it more useful. But at least with IOs, you can at least 'make it work'.
Ignite - I actually make ample use of Ignite as is, and find it quite useful. Makes a nice use of synergy with specialized power picks and/or if someone on the team has slows, or you just want a burning patch to hide in that puts fear in the hearts of those who want to kill you.
Targetting Drone - Agree, a damage buff would be nice to make up for the lack of build up.

Yeah, Sonic Repulsion - I give it to blasters that tend to get hurt but two out of three times the blaster has noticed the effect and then purposely runs into groups to throw them all around the room, destroying my end bar. :P
Yeah, I am mostly happy with Ignite - I just wish it did most of the damage up front, but if not that's ok.
I don't get the hate about hasten and domination at all.

Earthquake's long animation time bugs me.
Stalagmites bugs me by requiring me to be on the ground, and not having an alternate animation to its footstamp.
Power Sink bugs me by having an endurance cost of 13 - which often makes it difficult to fire off when you need it. I know, think ahead, but it still bugs me.
Serum - *shrug* It kinda fits the theme of Mastermind powers having the 'not super useful, but it's something' level 18 power pick. |
If Serum worked on all your pets, then maybe I'd use it more.
That's another good idea, for the regen alone.

Never understood the concepts behind black hole and sonic cage... You can't attack the enemy when you use them anyways >_<
The power I hate the most but is handy in missions ONLY is those damn ice shields D:
Beam Rifle. I'm not sure exactly which power it is, but the sound drives me crazy. If there's someone on my team with beam rifle (and right now, there always is) I have to turn the sound all the way down and just listen to music while I play.
Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?
Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?
I'd quite like to see Targeting Drone add a chance to crit to all attacks. Pick a % value that'd be slightly lower than the overall damage boost having Build Up provides.
Ice shield..
Hate it... -hate it-
In a game so centered around making your own unique apperance, why make a power that hides away the entire team in ice cubes?
Yea, I know, you can make it kinda-sorta bearable by messing with it's colors, but more often then not when I end up in a team with somebody who has it it's a team of solid blocks of ice time.

Is there any reason that Power Sink for ELA couldn't add some form of self buff given that every other ability now has it?

Targetted toggles annoy me.

Energy Transfer. Bile Spray. Burn. Traps->Poison Trap.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
Elixir of Life - I dislike having my Robot and or other 'Never sick' concepts puking after being revived...
Flash - Because it recharges so slowly.
Maestro Mavius - Infinity
Capt. Biohazrd - PCSAR
Talsor Tech - Talsorian Guard
Keep Calm & Chive On!
Hmmmm, powers that annoy me?
The sounds on some of the Beam Rifle powers I find very grating. I am actually considering taking advantage of the ability to Silence specific sounds, something that I have never even briefly considered before.
I will add my vote to the "Sonic Hula Hoop" power as well.
Healing powers. Pretty much all of them. I absolutely HATE having to watch other players' health bars so that I can use a power effectively. I will probably NEVER play Empathy or Pain Domination as a result. Other sets that only have ONE heal are okay, because I don't feel as if as much of my job is healing... I suppose that is why I love Trick Arrow so much on my newest Defender, and why I prefer to have sets like FF on my MMs so that I don't have to watch my pets' HP as much either.
I love these powers. I can't even begin to count how many times [Detention Field] has saved my bacon as a solo player on my Grav/FF... or how often it has made challenging content a breeze when I am duo-ing. A friend of mine and I took down all the the RV AVs (2 or 3 at a time) just the two of us... and it was made possible by me caging the AV we weren't fighting yet.
Icicles - this should be cold damage, not lethal, although I can see why someone could argue this. If it stays, give it some slow, like Quills. Still irritates me though. |

I can't stand the Ice blocks.
Bile Spray is just gross as all hell. 'Shrimp-puke' is a more accurate term.
Snipes - ugh - I can sorta see how someone might want one for soloing, but all the numbers point to a loss in damage per second if a player insists in using a snipe vs other abilities. They aren't truly awful but I refuse to ever take one - not even the psy or dark ones. I have one as a set mule in my fire/fire dom and that's about it as I never use it. |
It is, hands down the most nauseating power in the game.
The plastic tips at the end of shoelaces are called aglets. Their true purpose is sinister.

It doesn't really make any sense for it to be cold damage. The cold is not what is damaging anything... its the sharp and pointy things jutting out of your body. Have you ever noticed just how SHARP ice can be? Also, Ice Armor is in NO shortage of Slows, so adding one to that power doesn't make much sense either... [Chilling Embrace], anyone? |

Having played this game since inception, I just felt like addressing specific powers that have issues that seem so obvious that it downright irritates me. Feel free to jump in and contribute.
...now, this is by no means a list of all issues, far from it, I just wanted to point a big finger at those that just bug me:
Dimension Shift/Black Hole/Sonic Cage/Detention Field - Dimension Shift & Black Hole in particular - just using these powers can get you kicked from teams and rightly so - these powers just do not go with the flow of combat at all in this game. I vote these types of powers basically just hit enemies with a high mag placate. How cool would that be? They would need to be short lived, naturally, with a decently long recharge.
Time Bomb - Probably one of the worst powers in the game. Massive recharge, massive interruptibility, and the timer on it is so long that most mobs would be dead by the time it fires in a team setting. Clone the Omega Maneuver and put it in it's place!
Serum - This power barely gives any damage and the recharge on it is insane. Once a pet is 6 slotted decently, they won't get much out of the recovery either. Actually, mercenaries in general could use a buff - they take forever to kill anything compared to other pet sets. Change Serum into Swap Ammo! That would be sweet, can you imagine all the bullets changing to ice/toxic/fire?
Liquefy/Melt Armor - love these powers but the recharge on them seem a little unreasonable when compared to other sets.
Dark Regeneration - Cut the heal and end cost in half, PLEASE. You already have a very end hungry fear aura, which I am fine with, but with Oppressive Gloom stealing health effectively causing you to use Dark Regen more often, there is no need for such a strong heal with one of the largest end cost powers in the game. I think that would pretty much make me completely happy with Dark Armor.
Dark Pit - the accuracy nerf on this power is completely silly to me. It needs disorient to make it meaningful, it needs recharge to make it useful, why make it have such horrid accuracy on top of everything?
Icicles - this should be cold damage, not lethal, although I can see why someone could argue this. If it stays, give it some slow, like Quills. Still irritates me though.
Triage Beacon/Spirit Tree - given the recharge and immobile status, I still think these two should grant some small recovery and would add to their usefulness and desirability. I nagged Castle constantly about it - it's thematic, would make people stop debating if they are worth it, and offers additional slotting options.
Clarity - kinda seems pointless. With the bubble in Sonic, it only comes in when someone is put to sleep. I think Clear Mind type powers could be made AOE like the shields all were recently, but that's just me. I used to believe in them but now I tend to skip them.
Ignite - just make it do most of the damage up front, like Burn does. It can keep the fear - I don't care. Ignite could become the missing high damage/short range attack for the set, in case you don't have an immobilize. I am fairly happy with it, but this would be a plus in my eyes. AR tends to be a little underrated.
Targetting Drone - should give a very small damage buff to all powers and not just have code to give damage to Sniper Rifle in one powerset. I am talking like 10% damage at most.
Umbral Torrent + Tenebrous Tentacles - needs just a little adjustment for better synergy for the blaster port. The ranges seem a little out of whack and that's about it. I know people argue against anything with knockback, and this is worse since you knock the mobs all over and hold them there in tentacles, but I think the range adjustment would be fine for me, although the kb doesn't have to be as high as it is - I mean they are REALLY thrown. You don't really want to skip this power if you can help it as Night Fall + Tentacles were the reason people wanted dark blasters to begin with.
That's just off the top of my head.
