Hover board? Check.
Beam rifle? Check.
School backpack? Check.
6 character transfers while ubercheap? Check. Now I have more slots on Virtue for barbarians and laser rifles!
Pocket D badge I never got around to getting? Check. Hello, Tiki Bar!
That turned out to be a bit over my 1600, so I dropped another $15. And that may not last me much longer as I'm chin-stroking over the barbarian pack.
A MMOer and his money is soon parted.
I think we have a situation where there's more people willing to buy then there is stuff to buy. Devs, time to get crackin!

In spite of a few glitches here and there, it sounds like a really successful launch of a new era in City of Heroes!

Give it some months to settle down, see what happens to people's buying habits in one, two, or three months. Let's see how often the store has new product for people to spend their money on. Let's see how free and freemiums react to the store once they have access.
It's far too early to call it a success and a new era. Everyone is still in the "oooh, new and shiny!" mode. Right now, I can't see the store having that much new stuff being cycled in that isn't already there. It's not like, prior to this, they were putting out new booster packs and new QoL pieces every month and they probably still aren't going to. So, in a couple of months, if the market still has the same items it has today, and the only thing that's cycled have been sales, microtransactions will plateau and then fall off from VIPs.
We need to see how all of the above comes together over the long term before coining it a success.
Partial Character List:
LENINA 198-DELTA - 50+3 DP/Kin Corruptor (Main) / Captiosus - 50+3 Energy/Energy Blaster
Highlands.Hellraiser - 50+1 DS/Fire Tanker / SpazRat - 50 Claw/SR Stalker
Col. Gregor Aktaybr - 45 Robots/Time MM
While I agree with the majority of your post, this last line has me scratching my head.

Already summed myself up here. Needless to say, when I get more keyboard time (that doesn't involve homework coding for school), I'll probably buy more points (at least $15 so I can get another Reward Token ).
Edit: when will be able to buy RL swag, like t-shirts and buttons, on the store?
It'll sell very well.
Popped down the $100 to get to t9, and then bought everything I wanted. Still have all of the $100 and 400 freebie points and 2 reward tokens.
They need some better stuff on the market so I can spend these piles of points.
Right now I'm perfectly happy with the Origins pack (thank you devs for Bundles!), Capes Unlock, Aura Unlock, and...um...Renew and Restore, I think it is? I bought one more each of those mostly 'cause they were on sale.
I'm going to wait on Beam Rifle, but I still want it at sale price so I'm not waiting THAT much longer. Other things like the Barbarian Set haven't really piqued my interest, but the idea that I can get half the Wedding Set certainly HAS. I have few female toons, and none that would be looking at veils and wedding gowns, but who DOESN'T like to throw stuff...be it confetti or rice?

Bought 8000+1600 points.
Used points I got for subscription and above points on:
Beam Rifle powerset
Backpack
Barbarian Bundle
Aura Unlock
Cape Unlock
5 Character Slots
1 Costume Slot
Rocket Board
Will wate for Character and Costume slots to go on sale before getting my last 4 character slots for Union, and last 4 costume slots. Saving the rest of the points.
I used my accumulated points to get Beam Rifle, Barbarian pack, and Rocket Board. I'm saving the rest for later, to see what else comes out Real Soon Now.

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

I ended up buying $100 worth of points and spending about 1/3rd of it. Actually bought both extra enhancement trays, even though I think they are incredibly overpriced (Paragon got the advantage of first day euphoria, they won't see me buying anything else overpriced). I did manage to have the self control not to buy the costume slots, which given that we already have 5, are not overpriced, but ridiculously priced.
Then I logged back into the game and found I had enough tokens to fill out the 8th tier and get 2 of the 3 Celestial pieces, so I had to buy another $15 worth of points to get that last token.

Arc #271637 - Welcome to M.A.G.I. - An alternative first story arc for magic origin heroes. At Hero Registration you heard the jokes about Azuria always losing things. When she loses the entire M.A.G.I. vault, you are chosen to find it.
Meh, 1750 points sitting.

I just grabbed the barbarian pack, and yes the sword is suitably epic for my sword 'n boarder.
Only now because masks have been melded into standard heads, I'm going to have to remember how to put her face back on to edit her costume. :P
So I guess that marketing and the community reps are probably jumping with glee right now. Looking over this thread, it sounds like the whole "Freedom" concept is nailed down really well.
- Some people are dropping a wad of cash to get just about everything.
- Some people are spending some money to get the things they really want now, with the intention of using the points they'll accrue later to buy new stuff as it's released.
- Some people are using the points they've accrued but otherwise holding tightly onto their wallets, maybe in case a have-to-have hits later. At some point in the future, once they've accrued a few more points, maybe they'll get some of the nice-to-haves.
- Some people are willing to drop points on some stuff they want, but it's too expensive right now. That's okay; eventually the price will come down or it will go on sale, and they'll snag it then.
So everyone is getting stuff that is within their means and willingness to do so. And people are getting what they want--some people are getting lots of extra costume slots; some people are getting extra inventory; some people are picking up odds and ends that have, until now, only been available in bundled "packs;" some people are picking up convenient doo-dads like unslotters and such. In spite of a few glitches here and there, it sounds like a really successful launch of a new era in City of Heroes!
We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
