One character to rule it all. What would you choose?

Couple of questions about that.

First: Okay, how about missions at +4/x8?
Second: I was under the impression that provoke was not very effective without some damage output for the taunt to multiply.

My bots/traps... Well, certainly, the phrase "UNSTOPPABLE ROBOT ARMY" comes to mind. But! If I go from +2/x8 to +3/x2 or so, suddenly I have put the STOPPABLE back in UNSTOPPABLE, because my robots start missing and dying.

I'll also vote for SS/fire brute. To me, "doing everything" means not only being able to completely carry a team, but also keep that team alive. While solo, a MM or something else may keep pace with the brute, but on a team, they would have a much harder time holding aggro and keeping everybody else safe.

I don't have one myself, but my main is a fire/SS tank. He's much more powerful than any of my other toons, and I can only imagine how godlike he'd be as a brute with infinite influence.

Fire/Fire blaster.

I just always come back to setting stuff on fire is so much fun.

A Warshade can do everything but solo Giant Monsters... And that can probably even be done with temp powers/lore pets. Either way, that's my choice.

edit: Also, my Tri Form build does 54x8 Fire Farms.

I just saw this post.

Hmm, *waits for AIB to see this thread, and start soloing GM's on his Warshade*

Have a build to post for that bad boy? My tri-form is kinda ugh

MMs have too much luggage and thus come across as too high of maintenance for my own personal taste. In terms of ATs, I would likely go with a brute. Just about any SS/* works. I do rather like my Dark/elec though. While not one to really farm, Ill/rad is about as good an all-purpose that you will find.

This is my tri form build (the one I'm using on live right now.)

I still need two pieces of Ragnarok and I won't have the gladiator's armor IO for two more villain merits (ugh! so close!) so they're omitted.

I would probably go with my first toon: Kat/DA Scrapper. She is IO'd out for defense. Enough to survive and perform rather well but not completely max'd out.

Why that toon?
She's a lot of fun and I really enjoy running on teams but she can also solo most missions easily.

I'd like to see a reasonably servicable build that can survive ITFs .. w/o outside buffs ... "on the cheap." I'm serious as I'd like to use mine for more than AE farms but I have trouble coming up with a reasonably cheap build that doesn't have to go for 45+ S/L def.

I enjoy both my DM/Invuln scrapper and Illusion/Cold controller. Both do a good job at Soloing AVs. My DM/Invuln can tank just about everything and kill most stuff as well. My Ill/Cold is a little trickier, relying on PA and soft-capped Smashing/Lethal/Energy defense from dying. But this toon can also solo GMs.

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

Once i get on today i think in going to take a look at how good SS/fire takes down GMs

Mmk, it can kinda sorta do it (mine at least, iggy's does have more DPS that might be just enough to REALLY do it) without lore. AVs with no smashing resistance, like adamastor or babbage, can be killed without lore. But AVs with smashing res can not be killed without using lore. So its not the king of taking out GMs, just damn near everything else.

What archtype and powersets would you choose and why?

I would go with an Elec armor tanker and then Kin Melee

Why.. Elec armor is very tough verses normal content as you can high resistances verses s/l e and psi damage as well as moderate resists to Neg, Fire, and Ice. Much of the TF content hero side especially in the lower levels deals with s/l and e foes. Capping your energy resistance very early in your career is a huge boon of elec armor. Elec armor actually gets stronger in the later game... you'll laugh at malta sappers trying to drain you, be able to engage rularuu fairly easily, and carnies won't be much of a threat to you.
Elec does have a hole to toxic damage.. but unlike other sets Elec armor can plug its own hole using its tier 9 power which will also end up capping all but psi resistances. It makes for a very powerful set overall and one of my favorites.

Why Kin Melee... Kin does -damage which stacks nicely with the high resistances of elec armor. The combo goes as well together as Super Reflexes and Dark does. It also offers a nice mix of single target, aoe and ranged attacks and has a good damage boosting mechanic that I like better then build up, but not as much as rage. I just love the -damage aspect though and you really notice when you are focusing on a single target, and you have burst helping you with your aoe targets.

Why a Tanker and not a Brute? I'm a turtle sort of player so I like the higher base resistances that tankers offers verses the damage potential that a brute offers.

Teaming: I like Elec/Kin for teaming because no matter what sort of buffs and debuffs you add to elec armor it just gets better. The only thing you will have capped is elec resistance.. so you have room to be enhanced via a sonic or thermals... you have good end recover but its typically done via bursts of recovery and reduction of end costs rather then typically boosting the end recovery rate itself. +def and -acc powers are very useful and will greatly improve your durability. +recharge is nice for energize and powersink to bring them up faster. -damage stacks well with resistances and your kin melee effects. You are really good solo but get so much better teaming that its crazy good.

Final thoughts: I really like my elec/kin and soon to be artic epic tanker so far and would highly recommend it if you were only going for a single character to play as its just a good all around character and tanks are just really fun to play. I'd say that elec armor is one of the best all around sets in the game and you won't go wrong with choosing it.

Excellent answer, sounds interesting enough to build one and try it out

Stone/SS tank.

Why? I already have him for about 6 years now, he never let me down. Yes, clockwork king and Ghostwidow were nasty, yes psi and -recharge are painfull.. but at the end, he's the one standing there taking tons of damage and still going strong.

I've tanked pretty much everything with him, TF's (even pre-granite), trials, STF (no Mo), Eden trial, Hamidon (Hami tank of the turtle team), i even farm with him (pre-IO's on Eden and the famous freak's map).

True, he cant solo much, or slow. But i dont mind, he's my favorite tank, he always will be.

Over the years he only became stronger, and seeing the current IOsets, he only can become more stronger.

I'd go play a different game if I only wanted to play one character. I think some builds can do a lot of things very well, but no alt can do everything better than any other possible AT choice.

Even if one could, I'd probably still choose to play several alts over just one.

I couldn't remember by now, but I'm pretty sure it didn't cost me more than 20 millions to build (and you get roughly 30 millions in pure inf, without drops, going from level 1 to 50).

Edit: ok, no, looking at it it's perhaps closer to 50 millions at current market prices. Which is all of 20 minutes of farming at most with this very build even on SOs.

Did I use insps? You bet, as they drop. I don't see the point in choosing to not use tools freely available that just fall down in your lap without ever having to go out of your way.

I highly doubt it. Bots/Traps can stack -60% resist rather trivially, as well as dish out a whopping -1000% regeneration. Don't forget that any of the +recharge granted by /Time cannot affect the henchmen.

very interesting build, that for sure, but isnt the huge factor of doing such solo merely based on the incarnate abilities? Both lore as judgement give huge damage output, ageless and reactive a insane buff to your character, all but lore have even a decent recharge.

(ok, SS/fire is pretty much the most damaging build - though claw is discussable - i assume other likewise sets can achieve the same)

I was typing a long post and hitting the wrong key made my browser eat it, so meh. I'll just go with the following - yes, incarnate powers are good and useful. Again, tools are available, I use them, and I build around them.

I also feel pretty confident I could solo a MoITF with all incarnates unslotted, although it'd be much slower (and no way I do that to prove a point unless people show up to fill for me).

If I had to pick only one character, it'd have be one that's the most fun for me. I mean, sure, my FA/DM tank can demon farm with relative ease, but I find that to be pretty boring. Currently, my most fun toon is my Claws/FA scrapper, so I'd probably vote him.

Of course, I'm a heavy altoholic, so you can't really take what I say worth squat.
